This band and a few others that also call themselves "math metal" are basically all progressive metal that has been around since the 80's and from bands like YES and Rush in the 70's. Some of you should perhaps listen to Fates Warning, Psychotic Waltz..ETC..

I wrote a thesis on this a while ago, the idea that there is no genre, only music. I think you should possibly remove the idea of genre from your life and then perhaps you'll listen to music in a better way.

In a way this is like Jazz, you can define it however it still carries traits from other genres.

Many bands with a similar sound have also adopted the term, such as Periphery, TesseracT, Animals as Leaders... the list goes on. But really, who cares? The singing is pretty good, and it's awesome to hear purely clean vocals in metal that isn't power metal or a derivative. The drumming is adequate but not standout. Everything with strings, however... maybe it's the mixing, or the Youtube quality, but the number of people in this band does not match the amount of instruments I could hear or distinguish. I'm sure the singer could learn palm mutes in about a half-hour from the bassist and they could get rid of two people right there.
