  • great but it has nothing on the dead

  • This guy's awesome, but that goes without saying. Kinda depends on the recording, however.

  • Man. i like your stuff. Makes me want to sing and play guitar. I can only play the guitar, can't sing a note to save my life. one question, is there a reason you tuned this a half step up from regular tuning?

  • beautiful job!

  • That was pretty damn smooth brotha!!!

  • nice job dude... great tune...

  • what key are you playing in.....chords?

  • to me it sounds like capo 3 with the following chords:

    [intro] G C G(2 bars)

    [verse/chorus] G C G(3 bars) C G(3 bars) G7

    C(2 bars) G D7 G(2 bars)

That's pretty much it. Listen to the video if the bars don't make sense.

  • wow... just awesome. perfect song through out.

  • I could sit beside you and listen while you sing all night long. It's perfect.

  • Hey great version of one of my favorite songs. Rock on brother!

  • Loved it!

  • bob weir sung this song

  • 2:54 he loses his mind :) Badass song. I can't find a good version of this song anywhere. It's all live. I heard this on the radio as I was coming home from work. This is Grateful Dead right? There's so many people that's covered this song.

  • ha! that's good. i had to go back and watch to see what you were talking about. (i never know how to end songs.)

  • Excellent. But you should listen to the Grateful Dead's "Dark Hollow"

  • Why should he listen to the dead's version? So he can make his sound like there's? They did not write it.

  • Beautiful beautiful!!!!!!

  • this is beautiful! really love it!! You're outstading.

  • do you miss me playin this steph

  • ...

  • somebody plz post the one sung by Jerry garcia, the great,Greatful Dead..........that's as soothing too...

  • Have you covered and Townes VanZant? You'd be great doing almost any song of his.

  • christ, i've always loved the bluegrass version of this song by the kentucky colonels and muleskinner backed up by clarence white, but between your delivery and the minor key i've never felt this song more. nice work.

  • this is just ****ing great. I love the old school folk. You should do some originals. Inspires me to write more of my own. You should chech them out. Nice work, dude.

  • I agree with Sis.. They don't party like that around here but I wish they did. Awesome job man, love the vocals and whistling.

  • Brilliant. As much as other genre's can suit your voice, I do think that folk is your best style. Wonderful job. And I could understand what you said this time! See? You can mumble while still ennunciating.

Great job. *goes to add to favorites*

  • Man, I want to be in a party where you and some of the above listed artists/musicians are singing folk songs. I'll even drink for that!

Great touch. You're the perfect artist to sing a folk song and that sound, man, u gotta tell me the secret of that sound. No, don't tell, keep it magic ;p

    Peace,

    Sis

  • Lovely tune, love these folk tunes

  • Amazing :)

Must be one of my favourite performances of yours, top notch :)

  • great job Dan!!!! From your fans in N. Cal.....you rule......still waiting on those how to's.....thanks man.

  • I'm not sure where the song is from, either, but it shares at least some lyrics with "East Virginia," as sung by Joan Baez, I think on her second album. Recently, Roger McGuin featured it on his Folk Den recordings/web-site. Others have recorded that song, too (maybe Carolyn Hester??), but somehow I think that I've heard something closer to your arrangement done by some Bluegrass band on the radio. You do a convincing and nice job, I guess it's nice that you've made it your own.
