Usually companies either borrow, steal or whatever they do with ideas from video games by other companies, and upgrade and/or include new ideas to differentiate it from the game it was modeled after. There are many differences between Namco's Pac-Man and Nintendo's Devil World.
Shigeru Miyamoto had to do this, because according to Nintendo Power's Star Fox 64 Player's Guide, Miyamoto's favorite game is Pac-Man, so he most likely paid tribute to it by creating Devil World.
I think Miyamoto's better-known works convey a simplistic genius that this one, in all it's amalgamated glory, lacks. Even still, I wouldn't call it a dud.
Funny you should react negatively towards Cho Aniki (*Shudder*) in THIS video but then in a later video you say you want to play freakin' MUSCLE MARCH.
I agree with your opening statements but I can't help from thinking that choice was made for us, because of us. At that time i'm sure there were pleanty of bible thumpers to worry with this new Demon World game. It's a shame
Great video, I hope u get a spot on TGWTG you're very original and entertaining. Not a Blatant AVGN rip off ::Cough Cough:: ( Irate Gamer) hahah~Cheers!
Just commenting here to note that the Devil guy ("Devil", I believe that was his simple name lol) appeared in Super Smash Bros. Brawl so I guess Nintendo of America DOES think it has changed.
And obviously Sakurai (and Miyamoto) haven't forgotten this little pacman-based gem :)
Inexpensive? What are you smoking? LOL! Devil World is the final First Party NES game that I need for my collection. Every time I see it on ebay it's at least $40.00 and up. But I noticed you have the Famicom version. Is that one cheaper or something?
This was a great review and you posted this video on my birthday. Cool!
Yeah, the NES European copy is quite a bit more expensive. I would rate that one an "Uncommon $35+". But the Famicom one is much cheaper.
And thank you so much for the kind words. I'm really glad that so many people like my reviews. And I'm glad your "birthday review" was also one you liked. I hope you like my future reviews, because I have some great games coming up.
Fortunately and unfortunately Terranigma (known in Japan as Tenchi Sozo) was released in the US.
So it wouldn't qualify as a Japanese import that you can play. Besides, it's an RPG which would be a 5 out of 5 for Japanese difficulty... and I don't review games that are that difficult or require a walkthrough.
But thanks for the suggestion. Terranigma is a great game.
good review man! found this one searching for the one i did recently. yours is very informative!

This game's old and lame. Look to the future, not the past my gaming brothers!

And copies of Devil World these days are around 70 to 100 or even up to 150 bucks. So finding it for 4 bucks is unreal.

Shigeru Miyamoto's favorite video game is Pac-Man, and that's one reason why Devil World borrowed some ideas from it.
I've seen some religious beliefs and other biblical content in some other games. Capcom's Ghosts 'n' Goblins/Ghouls 'n Ghosts series has demons.

Random lesson learned from this vid that I should have seen coming: Tam(agon) is a dr(agon). Huge duh.
3:56 and 4:16 - 4:18 are very nicely timed and laugh-out-loud. Overall, 5/5 for awesome rehearsed vid.

Having played a few Bible games and owning two myself I can say that this looks more fun than anything Wisdom Tree ever came up with.

Did you really say "verboten"? xD Strange to hear a German word in an English video. Just like "kindergarten". It always makes me grin ^^

@JewWario Don't think it was released in the U.S. It was released in Europe, though.
