Your oversimplification is BS. I have a Bachelor degree and as Masters and am a CO. While I'll agree that some CO's bully inmates, by and large we treat them in accordance with their behaviour. I work in a Max Security Prison where we house the worst of the worst. All of these guys could not make in in general pop. 99% do what they are told. The others are assholes. This CO did us all a favor and made one more bad guy DRT.

True correctional professionals worry less about money and more about their fellow staff. A cop killer recently got arrested hours after committing his heinous crime he checked into the prison and hours later died under mysterious circumstances. His family is now suing the govt for millions of dollars. I'm pretty sure the guy deserved to die for killing the officer, but to die 'mysteriously' under police supervision. In Texas we don't, but if you have the concealed weapon license (Like I do)you have the right to use it when needed.
Most CO's also have second jobs as Private Security Officers (Commissions = carry gun).
