Oh I don't think they were hopeless. Hrudey, Zhitnik, Blake, and Sydor were all good players. But the Habs had the refs on their side. The game tying goal in game 2 was goaltender interference on Montreal but Fraser let it slide because, well, they're the Canadiens. If that goal was disallowed like it should have been, the McSorley mishap wouldn't have mattered and the Kings would have won the Cup.
