Just going to say two hings, technique needs improvement, you want to go down not sideways with your legs so bend at the knees. Think about it this way, whats better exercise, doing jumping jacks or a squat jump.

Although this technique is certainly not perfect, it serves a purpose as does every other ASSISTANCE movement in my training program. When I do full Olympic style clean and jerks...its beautiful...as is my snatch! :). I practice them much less now that I am a Pro strongman as opposed to a competitive Oly Lifter.
I was also an NCAA All-American in the javelin throw and have been National Champion in Masters track in the javelin and decathlon a combined 5 times. As for your obscure world record... Well, they shouldn't bend under low weights, but this isn't. The reason is two fold, first, it makes it more comfortable to catch cleans, and second (and more importantly), the elite lifters can time the bounces of the bending bar to help them stand up from cleans/snatches with the weight's own momentum. Just going to say two hings, technique needs improvement, you want to go down not sideways with your legs so bend at the knees. Think about it this way, whats better exercise, doing jumping jacks or a squat jump.

A clean equires use of the upper traps to move the bar along with trajectory produced by the triple extension (knee, hip and ankle). all you do is jerk your back and reverse curl it. Drop the weight you fairy and build your weights not your ego pussy

All Olympic weightlifters I've ever trained with use straps for multiple reps. Your analysis of what "traps" are used for is incorrect. Where are your lifting videos?

no i think you'll find yoru upper traps are more prominant than biceps during an olympic lift. You shouldnt really use your biceps at all, its all ankle, knee, hip and trap. Everyone will tell you the same unlees they have mince for brains such as azneserice who's obvoisuly read too much internet forums and not done enough technique building with experts...fuckin pussy

Actually the vast majority of European, and some American coaches will tell you there's no active shrugging at all with the traps. They merely serve a supporting role. Some people coach the shrug, and some don't. And there's no such thing as "upper" traps. Why are you in such a foul mood?

dont you sound like a douche. how about actually learning something instead of reading someone elses words. and like madaozeki, plenty of olympic and serious powerlifters use straps, its not like our forearms which are the smallest muscle group in the body can become so strong as to consistently grip enormous weights our bodies can lift, jeez. second, hang clean is a lot of shoulders, but its also a FULL BODY exercise which includes lower back, quads, shoulders, bi's, forearms, traps, and hips

yes becasue you see 65kg men using straps to snatch over 200kg etc yes, the forearms are too weak for that...

no 65kg man has ever snatched 200kg or come close to it... what on earth are you talking about? the forearms have very little to do with it when you use a hook grip, but the hook grip damages the thumb doing multiple reps... in other words, hook grip for singles, straps for reps... you clearly have no clue about Olympic lifting...
