  • Just going to say two hings, technique needs improvement, you want to go down not sideways with your legs so bend at the knees. Think about it this way, whats better exercise, doing jumping jacks or a squat jump.

    Secondly use some clamps lol.

  • @decadoc Well, "not" should be capitalized as it is the first word in your sentence. But that is neither here nor there. Watch Stefan Botev power clean. Much wider catch than mine. Although this technique is certainly not perfect, it serves a purpose as does every other ASSISTANCE movement in my training program. When I do full Olympic style clean and jerks...its beautiful...as is my snatch! :). I practice them much less now that I am a Pro strongman as opposed to a competitive Oly Lifter.

  • I was also an NCAA All-American in the javelin throw and have been National Champion in Masters track in the javelin and decathlon a combined 5 times. As for your obscure world record... I once completed an entire decathlon in 10 minutes. Now, it may not be official, but it has, to the best of my knowledge, never been accomplished by anyone else. So kiss my ass and fix your technique, any respectable "former Oly competitor" would never allow their feet to go that wide.

For the record, not that anyone gives a shit about this either, I have coached 292 All-Americans and 45 NCAA champions in track and field, coached athletes in professional baseball, football, basketball, USA Bobsled, USA track & field, United States figure skating, hold a Masters Degree in human performance, have been CSCS for 15 years and am published in two professional journals.

  • Stefan Botev is not a respectable Oly Competitor? If you dont consider that respectable then your opinion is not worth much. During my time at the OTC, popping the feet out for a catch on a Power style move was not unheard of. Especially when the athlete is not required to get very low for the catch. Pop cleans, drop snatches, snatch grip BTN Jerks all allow feet to widen. When you coach you tell world class athletes do you then decide to do so constructively?

As a successful coach you should be proud of your accomplishments and your athletes.   • no 65kg man has ever snatched 200kg or come close to it... what on earth are you talking about? the forearms have very little to do with it when you use a hook grip, but the hook grip damages the thumb doing multiple reps... in other words, hook grip for singles, straps for reps... you clearly have no clue about Olympic lifting...
