The first is a Male Earwigs. Second is a Female. See the differences? The thinner the end bit is..the more it's a female. The wider the more it's a male.
actually, you shouldn't kill them, they protect plants. You should just protect your house if you have them swarming around there. Don't kill these bugs because their nasty just put them inside a jar or a container and put them in your garden, they'll protect your plants from all the other insects. I let them do their job them I clean my vegetables and if I find one, I simply let them out back in the garden. They don't harm anything.
what ya gotta do anne marie is get a plastic container full of vegetable oil with holes in centre of the lid thats big enough for them to crawl into and put it near ya vege patch but under cover so it dont fill up with water if it rains.. leave it for a week and prob full of bugs, empty it and refill weekly or so..
I heard that people used to believe they got into your ears to nest. Don't think it's true tho. We have lots of 'em too here in the northern plains states. My chickens adore them! :)

insecticidal soap concentrate in the jug, works very very good in defense of earwigs and its 100% organic:):), i use it , even to defend against leaf hoppers on my potatoes

If you find and earwig, spray it with something that won't kill it but will slow it down a lot, the get some tissue and pick it up, pour something very flammable on the tissue and place outside, light a match and throw onto the tissue, and there you go, the bastard is dieing in pain, and you get a good show :P

Yeah. Near the mountains! I am talkin we are infested with them! You cant lift anything up without there been a colony underneath it. They are really starting to get ridiculous.

They (earwigs) should just think of the bright side. I don't spray. The rest are out there eating my cabbage. It was only the few that were sacrificed for the many.
They are everywhere. This is the part of Canada I forgot about. We didn't have any in North Carolina, that I saw. We had Black Widow spiders though. What a trade off.
