  • Great job!

  • someone please be honest. i have a question to ask and im stuck in between a rock and a hard place... Is 1200 Dollars american too much or is it a good price to pay to rebuild a 1973 351 cleveland 2v???

    thank you

  • lol, my heart stopped for a second when i thought the music wouldnt fade out whule the engine was cranked. thanks for posting this awesome video!

  • ty for putting real music in the video and for turning it off so we can hear the motor!

  • timeings off it sounds like

  • That's the figures on the engines performance? Also how much did it generally cost to build?

  • sounds incredible

  • nice jump suit Ruskie

  • How can you tell the difference between the 302 engine and the 351 windsor. Tks

  • what rpm are yal runing it to break the cam in

  • can someone help me what makes a 302 a ''boss'' 302 can you make a normal 302 a ''boss''?

  • @alex3alex3alex3...

A real Boss 302 has heads with canted valves.

You can pretty much duplicate one by putting Cleveland heads on any 302 Ford. A few modifications are required but nothing too crazy. The Ford SVO parts catalog has detailed info on it. Download it and check it out.

  • about how much money and time did this take if you dont mind

  • @alextank16 Apx 2000 USD into part + 50 % for transport charge to Europe. Boring and machining apx 700 USD. Assembly myself- few weekends

  • @MustangMach172 could you send me a list of parts you bought for it if you know, thanks

  • I know I am going to "catch it" for saying this but Fords cars and trucks after about 1964 are junk.... But Ford builds one hell of an engine to this day!

  • so if this is the origanal motor then its not a mach 1 just a 72 mustang sport roof.

the mach 1 had a 351 cleveland. horse power was an incredible 275. the 302 had an incredible 140 HP.

the way to check for sure if your 72 is actualy a mach 1 is to check the vin #. look at the 3rd and 4th numbers if they are 05 its a mach if its 02 its just a sport roof. next will be a letter on a mach 1 it will be an R on a fast back it will be F

    72 mach 1 starts 2T05R then 6 more numbers starting with 1

  • @123456789mischief

The car is true Mach 1 , originlay 351 2V H code car. VIN 2F05H.... Unfortunately original engine has gone and I got it with 302 only which is actually same year but probably comming frorm Fairlane.

  • @MustangMach172 didn't think they came with the 2V in the mach 1 but then again what I don't know is a heck of a lot more than what I know. and this is ford they were famous for putting things where they shouldn't be. nice job on the engine is there a video of the finished car yet?

  • @123456789mischief

Definitely Mach 1 could be ordered with 2V or 4V engine for '72. The car is not yet completed. A lot of restoration has been done. I am finishing with bodywork thus only pictures and no video. As you tube did not allow to type any web links here - type "mach172.cz" in google and you can check restoration progress

  • @MustangMach172 When I pulled The 302 for my 71 coupe to trace down a balancing problem I found out that, no joke, it was pieced together from parts from about 6 different cars. 1 head was from a fairlane, the other head from a maverick, a power steering pump from a torino, the block was from a ranger and some ranchero parts. About the only parts that were actually off a mustang were 2 rods, 6 pistons, and the 2 BBL Carb. The amazing thing is most if the parts still had the tin ID tags.

  • @123456789mischief a 302 had 140 hp? and a 351 had over twice that? makes no sense i thought the 302 was 190 hp.

  • @TheRedSled97 Factory specs.

  • @123456789mischief your correct that this isnt a Mach 1 engine, but the 302 2V only dropped to 140 after 1972 due to emission regulations, I just bought a 1970 302 2V, 220 HP. Just out of curiosity what year is this engine from?

  • what does the 302 mean?

  • how much did it cost to rebuild it?

  • what song is this?

  • @ziffkalord

Song is from BTO - Nothin' Comes Easy

  • its the 302 super song!!! rock on!!!

  • @ziffkalord pekne velmi pekne

  • how mtch wold u charge me for u to rebuild my 1989 5.0

  • @jsnyara 180* is cool as far as thermostats go. 99% of American made engines have 195* thermostats from the factory.

  • Very cool

  • This is a really clean engine build.

  • i have the same engine and i have a question, where does the line on the back of the carb go to please respond back thanks and also how did you paint the engine.

  • @jasonman1515 I guess you mean the back line form left valve cover from the left to compensate engine pressure and take oil vapors to carburetor.

Engine was painted disassembled, Block and valves apart but after boring and machining job was done. Block was cleaned with wire brushes, everything degreased, masked and sprayed with 2K high temp paint. You can check soem pictures om my web

  • @MustangMach172

Hey, i see your doing a great job, and all goes well for you.

But can i ask you how is the situation in Europe with spare muscle car parts?

Cuz My dad and I are planing on doing a "Eleanor" project,

take a nice shell, all interior and mechanic parts,

and of course the machine (cant tell witch one tough)...

And i supose it's gonna be a problem if we forget something in the USA (btw I'm from Croatia),

so is there any muscle car store or something in Europe?

  • @ScuderiaBull

Actually there is no issue to get the pars for US cars but you have to order everything in US and then import to Europe. I know a guy who is transporting cars via sea containers and I drop tons of parts there. Check my restoration progress there on my webpage mach172.cz

  • i have the same engine and i have a question, where does the line on the back of the carb go to please respond back thanks

  • i love how this dude just built and started this engine in his home, lol, that is exactly how im building my 306, in my living room, cuz i aint got no garage!!

  • @DarksideRacingCrew

I do actually all restoration job on my car myself at home through sheet metal spraying the paint to engine and tranny rebuild. I live in Europe ,its difficult to find here any shop do the perfect complete restoration of American muscle right for good proce.

  • @MustangMach172

I wouldn't be amazed if the Germans had a few of them! (the have everything),

so we wouldn't have to go back to the US only for a few parts?

  • Awesome job. I noticed you were speaking another language, but you sure know how to speak "American Muscle"...lol

  • THe parts must be expensive.. Engine parts are never cheap..

  • that stang looks badass

  • Very nice man. How did you go about painting your block it looks very nice.

  • what heads did you put on that or what are done to them?

  • WOW! Beautiful job!!! Sounds killer... and LOVE that Mach I!! What's up with the sideways muffler?

  • wow, cool, u r doing this in ur dining room!!! i have my 2001 32 valve Cobra enigine in my living room too!!! I accually have mustang parts all over my house lol!

  • wow i never knew cars could be broke-in in 30 minutes!! thats awesome

  • fuck me mum must have been stoked

  • i dont no if i cry or i smile.....stop man,my heart is over 10000 rpm........sml

  • IS THAT IN YOUR HOUSE?!

  • @SuperKONR probably just a carpeted garage

  • @MotoCrossBoy104 ok that makes sense.

  • @SuperKONR np

  • beautiful

  • yes thats what i am talkin i am thinkin of buildin up a 37 chop top pickup and stick either a 289 or a 302 but also thinking about a 351 windsor but damn that was nice how much horses u pushin?

  • And for everyone breaking in a engine it is perfectly acceptible to shut a engine off in the middle of break in if YOU HAVE TO you canfinish breakin later i would NOT recomend letting it cool down and set over night .

  • the 71-73 stangs were quite heavy - it would have been wise to go with more cubes - like a stroked 351 - to 393 or more. I realize there are costs involved - but they are well worth it - I run a stroked cleveland in my '66.

  • looks very familiar. just got done goin through our boss 302. runs like a top now

  • sounds great

  • beautiful man i had a ghia 75 with that engine it was jst restord nut to the full but that bitch ran and was fucking raw

  • this music sucks horribly.

  • oh that's a very nicely rebuilt 302 sir.

  • u guys are fucking jackasses

  • I love how they put mufflers on the headers

  • how much does a rebuild cost

  • @grafftodatrack it depends on if you do it yourself or not and wether your upgrading at all, you could get a decenct rebuild for a motor for like $600 with pistons. it also depends how your cam looks( may need replacing) and weather or not your gonna bore it over.

  • i basicaly just need new piston rod bearings cuz i got acouple spun rod bearings and my car is a 79 so mite as well rebuild it

  • @grafftodatrack ya well you can get a bearing set for cheap, under $100. ONly thing is you gotta do a lot of measurements and makes sure there in spec. also if you wanna upgrade anything, then would be the time after tearing it apart.

  • yeah id rather pay somone to do it know alot about engines but puttin bolts back on piss me off espicaly in small place and the keep falling off in to smaller places ill just let somone els deal with that

  • bout 800,u will need to resize yer rods n check crank to c if its out of round

  • @AKBray907 for me to rebuilt my 302 wich caught fire cost around 1200-1600, but it kicks ass now

  • oh ya rebuilds could easily be that much i was saying if it didnt have a ton of damage like yours did, that sucks dude. im guessing you upgraded some stuff?

  • @AKBray907 o yeah haha headers msd holy carb and a few more things i had to do the totaly damage wasnt to bad, only burnt like top half of the engine

  • oh nice, you bore it out while it was torn down? you shoulda stroked it :P

  • @AKBray907 if i were to stroke it i woulda been a whole new engine with a racing 347

  • @mustangsaleen2 ya i know it wouldqa been awesome :)

  • It would be nice to see a Zirgo fan instead of the mechanical fan.

    Far safer, and efficient.

  • Gota love how the engine is in the kitchen.

  • thank'you.....jonesee .........p.s yesterday my oil pump went out in my 302 in my 79 ford truck any tips ...i would really appreciate it....t'y again....jonesee....

  • great job on the motor..

    i like the music too,who is it...thank's...jonesee.........

  • Music is BTO - Nothin' comes easy

  • You know I really like that song too. I can't find this song though and I've searched all over napster and itunes. What album is it on? Thanks,

    Matt

  • I guess its on '96 album Trial By Fire ,hope this help you to find it.

  • what band is that..........good choice...

  • what is happening at 2:35, i have the same problem all the time and it sounds like that. hard to start.

  • If you mean the starting is so rough, its because of the engine if freshly rebuild and everything is tight. Also I got a weak battery. starting wasmuch easier after breakin.

On running engine this might indicate a problem with starter motor as well.

  • 4:34

    hell yea

  • Please can someone answer this question:

Is the flywheel attached to a particular engine at the factory and then balanced with the weight added or do they just balance the flywheel on there own?

Otherwise, does an engine have it's own flywheel only to be put on one way or can you just switch them out as needed?

  • Most early 302 engines are externaly balanced. It means the crank is balanced with flywheel/flexplate and damper attached. The flexpalte has some weigh added . I think the early one uses 28 oz dis balance weight. The flexplate needs to be correctly positioned with same direction as the original one.

  • The flywheel or flexplate is built like any other mass produced product. It has a certain weight attached if it is used on an externally balanced engine, 28(up to 1980)or 50 oz(1981+) in the case of a Ford small block V8. They can only go on one way. The bolt pattern has 6 holes of certain spacing that can ONLY be lined up one way to ensure proper installation.

  • y stick to a dual plain intake?

  • yes, the intake is dual plane

  • torque..that's why...a single plane would make the engine crazy sluggish!

  • lol ur wrong a single plane makes better torque, trust me ive rebuilt more 302s then youve proable ever seen

  • singles are for high RPM's, you can't build good torque when HP peaks at 7200 or so.

  • lol y would u want torque at 7200 rp, u get better low end torque with a single plane i think u have them confused duals are better for mid, high single is alot better for low end torque

  • no i think i'm right, duals have a power range from idle-6500rpm, singles go from 4000-8500rpm, now tell me which one produces more low end!

  • and your proof to back this claim up?

  • the proof is everywhere...here's and idea for you...grab a summit racing catalog, flip through the Air Fuel section until you find "The Professor" talking about manifolds...or try this watch?v=i2DvnoHWagk

  • big question! I gonna have my crank balanced and journals polished. When i order the rebuild kit. do i look for undersized of oversized bearings for mains and rods.

  • over sized bearings

  • Let your machinist decide. Typycally the wear is , so that you need to order one step 0.01" undersize mains and rods bearing set.

  • Good job!

  • just amazing, great video man, how much did you spend in that engine?

  • I have spend about 2300 USD in parts + 60 % more to import to Europe. Shop machining block and heads for about 700 USD localy. The assembly free of charge as I do it myself....

  • what song is that?

    it's pretty beefy

  • The song name is Nothin' comes easy from BTO, 1996 album Trial by fire

  • nice my dad had a 72 mach and had that same motor and rebuilt it

  • Nice job, I building a 347 and I would be lucky to get it started as effortless as you did.

  • Nice job. What size and model carburetor did you use?

  • Good Vid! Cool tune.

  • bad ass

    nice job
