Diabolezza used to be danced in Istria and Primorje from the 17th to the 19th century, mostly as part of the weddings and folk customs. Neither the melody nor the movements of the dance have been preserved, but the saying goes that it used to be a happy, celebrating dance, full of rhythm. The name of the dance reveals a certain barbaric and pagan character, so common for the blending of old Slavic beliefs and Christianity. The composition is the author's view of the legend of that old dance.
