@cbarrett34 ´allo! I got a bootleg cd containing 7 tracks with bruce´s old group ´steel mill´.
He was only 18 or 20 at the time, but he plays a mean hard rock guitar. I will try to get this on youtube. yet I don´t know how. There´s some pictures of him with really long hair and his gold top les paul. I really want to share this with you... love from nico
@nicofix75 yes, i know all about steel mill. bruce's really hard rockin band of the late 60's, early 70's. bruce never had any problems on the guitar. i wouldn't say he's "great", but he's definitely very solid and competent
@cbarrett34 You´re so right. But, when I was a teen I thought if I could learn to play this piece I could make it anywhere. We played "adam raised a cain" in my old band :)
saw them twice on this tour, they tore the roof off the place, burnt everything in sight...i never cared for anybody's concerts ever again, except leonard cohen. springsteen and e-street, 1978, was the peak of rock and roll, IMHO.
There is no one like Bruce. I like classic rock. I like Motown. I like opera. I like jazz, John Coltrane and Charlie Parker. I like some rap. Still, Bruce is unique. Melissa Etherige called Springsteen Shakespeare set to music. He is my favorite. I thought he was finished until he had his PBS interview with Charlie Rose. Then, Bruce came out with The Rising, which is excellent. My favorite song of Springsteen, New York Serenade.
Bruce is the greatest frontman ever. He can be corny at times but it just doesn't get any better than this song. There is not another front man out there with as much charisma, passion, talent, or musical ability as Bruce.
I would very much enjoy having this, probably my favourite version from the 78 tour, as well as the Rosalita from the set if you have it, my favourite version besides the Hammersmith 75
Absolutely terrific piece of electrfying rock and roll , sends my heart pounding with every watch. The man is dripping with emotion and energy, its oozing out of every pore.Feel those NJ blues surging through his veins. All heart and soul, Bruce Springsteen is my back up heartbeat. Respect.
My favorite part about the live versions of this song is the way he yells right after the last verse. It's just such a primal scream that contains a great sense of yearning. Just how I feel. Anyone know what he's saying there? It always seems to me like he's saying "what I want. Well I want it."
There are 5 songs from the 78 Phoenix show included in the Promises 6 disc set.
Badlands, Promised Land, Prove it all night, Born to Run, and Rosalita. Thats in addition to the entire 1978 Houston show. Worth getting if you have not bought it already
I remeber me and my ex had tickets to see The Boss. We separated before the concert and he wound up with the tickets. Being the jerk he is I really didn't care about us splitting, but I was f%&#ing pissed that I missed the show xD
The Houston '78 is the full set show that is going to be released with the box set. But from this show we get to see Badlands, The Promised Land, Prove it all Night, Born to Run and Rosalita. So me is a happy man!!
little back ground info. this concert was less han a week after Rollong Stone published an article containing a list of the top guitarist of the age. Bruce was not on this list. this show he set out to "Prove it all night" that he belonged with the best guitarists' company
@finishingkick94 did Steve Winwood make the list?-he also is overlooked as a great guitarist as well as lead vocals, mandolin, piano, keyboards, writer etc.

@JoeyPNB Winterland is another amazing version with a longer guitar intro and a sick guitar solo at the end. It's to bad that there's no video to go with the audio. It's great watching the bands energy during the peak moments of this song.
July 5, 1978 = 32 years ago today, I saw Bruce for the first time at the Forum in Inglewood, CA. Three days before this video was shot. My life hasn't been the same sense.
Look at how young these guys were. I was 17 when they did this. Look at Max Wienberg the drummer doesnt look the part of a late 70's Drummer (Bonham, Moon, Pert... to name a few drummers of his era). Just a great great band
@liangr5 i wish all of these videos had been available 25-30 years ago when we had to wait for the tour to come around every year or so & go see him back-to-back nights when he came to town.
@billhartack thank god these videos exist and we, the younger people are now able to see these performances ,to hear Bruce Springsteen and the wonderfull ,full of passion and meaningfull songs he has sang.
i saw bruce 2 times live. both in tacoma, wa. 1992 and 2000. absolutely amazing. both shows well over 3 hours, packed house at the tacoma dome, 25,000 people easily. fun shows
I saw two of these 1978 shows at the Palladium . I also taped his free concert on WNEW-FM. The intensity ran right thru the whole concert. After this tour and No Nukes, Bruce grew up. By 1984 he was a "success". I always like the "loser" style better. Que Sera Sera....
Collecting stories and photos from hundreds of fans, The Light in Darkness book celebrates this classic record, allowing readers to revisit the excitement of that moment when the needle found the grooves in that first cut and the thundering power of "Badlands" shook across the hi-fi for the very first time. Or the uninitiated, but soon-to-be-converted teenager, brought along by friends and finding salvation at one of the legendary three-plus hour concerts - shows that embodied all the manic fury
My favorite tour. Hands down. After this, he allowed others to handle the lead guitar chores. Very unfortunate. No one since has given me chills like Bruce did on lead guitar. Check out "Street of Fire" from the 78 tour. Outstanding!!! Chills just thinking about it. My all time favorite concert experience.
I remember reading that he had just finished up dealing with Mike Appel and the outcome had just left him in an angrier state of mind than usual. Who knows? Their best tour and one of the best tours ever in rock history. Simply unbeatable :)
Well, I saw 6 shows from the following River tour at the LA Sports Arena and Miami Steve was doing all the lead guitar work. The band still rocked the house and it wasn't Bruce doing the lead. And then Nils joined up and it was between him and Mr. Miami from all my experiences. Once and while Bruce would do some, but it was never the same as the Darkness Intensity.
this is a good version but look up the boss doing this at the capitol theater in 78. best version everrrrrrrrrrrrrr. haha 70's Bruce is the best bruce.
If you're talking about the Darkness box set I must say you're dreaming. This will not be the concert to be released, I am willing to bet my bucks it will be the Houston Coliseum one from December 8, 1978.
@nfender85 The re-release (not really a 30th "Anniversary" edition like with Born to Run) of Darkness on the edge of Town will include four songs from this show, as well as another entire show, other clips, a documentary, etc. So, YES, but no, not a FULL show. Still excited!
This version of this song has to be one of the top 10 best live songs ever. From Bruces guitar intro to Roy Bittans amazing keyboards, The E Street Band is at the top of its game. ...JUST WATCH fro 6:00 on to see a band knowing that they have something real special and Nobodys better!
One of Bruce's best "rockers!" As great as Born to Run is, with the title song, and Jungleland, my own personal favorite Springsteen album is Darkness on the Edge of Town.
To Everybody on here.... Especially TelcasterLORD, watching Springsteen from 75-80 is like a watching a Martin Scorsese film or to the like of Rocky Balboa boxing!! Substance, Matter, Heart, Guts and most of all Heart!! These early videos are priceless!! Bruce is my Jesus!!
I don't doubt it! But I will always like his arena tours/concerts most. Born In The U.S.A and Rising, Magic and WOrking On A Dream! :) 'Live in Barcelona' is just amazing.
Nicely put. Oh to have a DeLorean and a fully working flux capacity so we could all go back in time & watch Bruce in his pomp from 75 leading up to the amazing gigs of 78!!
Heard Bruce is going to tour Europe this summer. Who is replacing Clarence? Is this even possible?
JayGatsbyOdysseus 2 days ago

@nfender85 The re-release (not really a 30th "Anniversary" edition like with Born to Run) of Darkness on the edge of Town will include four songs from this show, as well as another entire show, other clips, a documentary, etc. So, YES, but no, not a FULL show. Still excited!

This version of this song has to be one of the top 10 best live songs ever. From Bruces guitar intro to Roy Bittans amazing keyboards, The E Street Band is at the top of its game. ...JUST WATCH fro 6:00 on to see a band knowing that they have something real special and Nobodys better!

@djmcg07 "Prove It All BNight" from "Winterland" San Francisco 12/15/78. Another incredible version (better than this in MY opinion)
