  • After digging up my old lego, I found my scout! However, after putting in new batteries It didnt give up any life :( Any reason you know of why it died? Is it just old age? could I make it somehow?

  • @0liviaLea That's a real pitty.

Does it do nothing at all?

Most of the time the batteries are the reason of malfunction.

Are you sure you've put the batteries in the right directions?

And did you use new batteries?

If one of the batteries is wrong it will not function.

In case old batteries have leaked you should clean up the metal springs and contacts.

    Overigens: spreek je Nederlands?

  • Nice job!

  • I'm desperate to get mine out, all my LEGO is being held hostage in the loft by the fibreglass insulation. I've only got the scout, and I was a little worried after reading about it's capabilities (I didn't really know much when I got it, I was about 7), but after seeing this I'm pretty confident I'll be able to do something good! Thanks for posting, MennoGorter!

  • @sambarnes285 You're welcome! ;-)

Indeed: you should be proud to own a Scout. :-)

There are a few more video's about the Scout-spider; did you see them too?

  • what is that making sound, that bllue thing with lights?

  • It must be an important part since it makes sound, has lights, contains the batteries and, last but not least, controls the model. ;-)

Lego called it Mindstorms-Scout and it was my goal to make an interesting model with this Scout combined with Lego wich didn't excist at the time the Scout was produced.

  • wow i just looked it up and it looks almost like a rcx.

  • Only the Scout is pre-programmed, so you don't need a computer.

It even has a build-in lightsensor!

  • wats better the rcx or the scout

  • NXT :-)

I think the RCX if you have the skills to programm it.

The Scout is easy when you don't like computers, but is very hard to get.

If anyone wants to get rid of it; give it to me please!!!

It will be in good hands. ;-)

  • i perfer the rcx. the nxt's motor break to easily but it is still pretty smart and impressive

  • Cool, but creepy haha. Imagine what one could do with a spiderbot.

  • When I demonstrate my models I'm only afraid of the pestcontrol. :-)

  • Cool. I like the wagging head. Makes it more alive.

  • This movement of the cockpit was a huge problem to improve;

It's also coupled to it's touch-sensors and it moved much too well...

Scout-Spider was constantly busy to ovoid non-excisting obstacles. :-)

    I managed to make a sort of shock-absorber of a rubber lego-piece.

It seems to work just fine otherwise.

  • Thats brilliant12

  • I like how you've managed to break away from the grid of Parallel leg arangements by making 4 of the legs move in a more 3-dimensional fashion :)

  • You are the first one who noticed/mentioned it. ;-)

I'm using this combination of legs a few years now.

  • Absolutely brilliant design!

    NeXTSTORM

  • I tried hard to get it look like that. :-)

A few days ago I've added more video's of Scout-spider trying to scare the visitors of Skærbæk Lego fun weekend 2009.

Amongst them also the owner of TLC.

  • I've seen almost most of these videos. Real fun!!! (...I'm sure you have succeeded to "scare" TLC owner)

It is obvious that you have spent lot time and effort to make you robots fully functional and beautiful. You have indeed a unique collection of robots!!! They seem like they had just jumped out from the pages of a -black and white- comic book....

    Very impressive work!!!!

    NeXTSTORM

  • The little electronic sound effects are so cute!

    Especially at around 0:46.

    LOL sounds like Atari!

    ^-^

    5 stars

  • Thanks.

The main reason why I used the old Mindstorms-Scout is that all the programs and also this sound- and light-effects are standard build in!

You can even instruct it to explore light or dark area's; that's what Scout-spider is doing when turning around making these sound- and lighteffects.

  • Cool. The mechanics are simply Genius. My own Walkers are not so Stable at Walking.

  • Thanks.

8 legs are always more stable...

  • impressive!

  • Nice!!

  • That thing is a lego!

  • Very nice:)

  • i really like the design. The walker moves like an insect. very good!

  • Thanks; it was ment to be a bit creapy.
