@forgetfulmuse If you attend a Greek Orthodox Church in America, there will probably be at least some English. Some churches in America even use a majority of English based on what the ethnicity of their congregation is. Definitely go! You may like it better than your Catholic church! :)
I wish I could speak Greek, so I could go to a Greek Orthodox church and understand it. Can I go anyway, just to behold the awesomeness? I wouldn't take communion or anything... (I'm Catholic).
@forgetfulmuse Dear Friend, Go to an Orthodox Church. You will find true Catholicism there. I, too, grew up Roman Catholic and converted in 1984. Study the differences, esp. The Filioque. You will have an excellent opportunity to see the beauty and compunction of The Orthodox Church during Great Lent. There will be many services and you can see why Christ was incarnated: to save us through His Resurrection!
@mariaxeniaallen Thank you and everyone else who responded to my question. I'm a recent convert to Catholicism (less than a year, previous life-long heathen/agnostic/atheist) but am somewhat dissatisfied with certain elements of watering down and feminisation within the Church. I will keep all this in mind as I continue my journey. :)
@eleper7 no, I'm new calendar. This monastery is old calendar but it supports the new. Although personally, I think that if the Ecumenical Patriarchate continues to push for a united church, I will change to Old calendar.
@psoti3186 I don't think he will be allowed to really "push" for unification. The "unification" talks are obligatory, and just an old thing that's happened for centuries. If they start "modernizing" liturgical practices and say making Vatican II-esque changes, THEN be worried.
@orthodoxyordeath1453 Friend, The Orthodox world has already capitulated to the Roman Church! I grew up RC, having entered first grade at a parochial school when Vatican II was occurring. I converted to Orthodoxy in 1984. You should be worried about the hierarchs and clergy who seek unification b/c they have been among us for years. You want to see Ecumenism at work? Find videos shot in Vancouver, BC in the early 1980s. Some enemies are obvious; others are like snakes
@mariaxeniaallen They have been doing these unification talks for centuries. They mean absolutely nothing, or there would have been a change in relations. Hierarchics and clergy who wish for unification will always be among us, but we must just stay vigilant in our own faith, and God will protect us.
@orthodoxyordeath1453 I agree. Remember: "Still waters run deep." The Ecumenists and the RCs won't come in like the Ottomans, they will chip away, one small piece at a time. Just this week, the RC Church offered to take in the Episcopalians who are unhappy with their Church. And look at how they got Carpatho-Russia and the Ukraine, making them Uniates. As St. Philaret of New York said, "Hold fast to that which thou hast been given." We must keep our ears open and stay on our toes.
@psoti3186 Friend, the Ecumenical Patriarchate has already capitulated to the Roman Catholics. Keep The Faith and, if needed, change to a parish which will maintain the dogma of Orthodox, be they Old Calendar or New Calendar. There are Traditionalists in the New Calendar. Pray to God to protect you and guide you.
Wow, there's just nothing in the world to compare to the Orthodox Churches. Especially the Russian ones I think. They're beyond magnificent. And St. Ivan Rilski Chapel? Who knew there's an Orthodox Church in Antarctica? Does it get any better?
@isabelzavoranu Friend: Remember: while the churches and chanting are beautiful, it is the Faith itself that is our pearl. Our true treasure is in our Orthodoxia and Orthopraxia. The churches are there as a place for us to glorify God, in ecclesia (gatherings.) Thank God for His Bride whom He saved.
@Vrlobrza It is O.K. to like the byzantine way. I can understand 'cause l'm greek orthodox. BUT! Never forget that the voice of God can come from the most unexpected mouths. Be aware to hear it from the lost, the savages, the low lifes, the nature
Thank you so much! Please see my Orthodox video promotions on youtube under 'marykflms.'

@isabelzavoranu I don't believe it does. The Orthodox church is the crown and gem of the entire world.
