When I was growing up, I grew up listening to Morbid Angel and being blown away by how good / quick Pete was on drums. Personally I think he is the better drummer out of the two, but by no means that makes Joey shit, he is damn good too. You've gotta remember though they come from two different types of bands. A better comparison would have been Pete and Nick Barker (former drummer from Dimmu Borgir)

This a very interesting thing. Joey is a tremendous drummer, i like his style but whoever said(or wrote) Pete Sandoval is the talented, don't know shit. Pete Sandoval is a veteran in percussion way before Joey. the only difference is that Slipknot became popular (almost mainstream) with the Nu-Metal movement and Pete remained underground with Morbid and Terrorizer. Every old school metalhead knows that Pete made himself known way before Joey. I even bet Joey's influence in drums was Pete.

Slipknot has been shitty for a while. I have to admit I liked the debut album and nothing more. I've also heard much better from Joey, his older shit (early Anal Cunt) sounds much better; his drum track here doesn't do him justice. Pete Sandoval is sicker than fuck too. But I would have to say I like them both.

These two drummers are in the same kind of music, or extreme style, not even comparable with Buddy's jazzy style. While Buddy specializes in snare kind of percussion, he almost doesn't play with toms or bass. They're different type of rythm rules: the velocity, coordination, endurance, and even the way of grabbing the sticks differ. And it is, in fact, in a very technical level. I think you might be
driven by some prejudice that the extreme music HAS to be just noise, when in reality you have some really talented musicians and really complex compositions, not allowed for anyone to play it right AT ALL.
If you want just one example of a extreme drummer that does clinics too, try Derek Roddy.

i think these 2 drummers are great a fool would think otherwise, 2 very good drummers in their own rights. joey himself has cited pete to be one of his influences. 2 very awesome drummers, they get the respect they deserve, at the end of the day the reason why slipknot are more popular is because there music is more accessible, MA's is so much more darker and more extreme that the target audience is so much more smaller. morbid angel are my favourite out of the 2 however.

Joey was nominated for being the best drummer because of how popular he is. When you have a drummer in a band like that, he's gonna be more noticeable then a drummer in a not so famous band like MA. Doesnt mean Joeys better though, cuz he all already know that. Slipknot just attracts fat ugly kids, mallrats, and people who dont know shit about music.

I understand this is a joke, but I'll still put some input:
Slipknot has been shitty for a while. I have to admit I liked the debut album and nothing more. I've also heard much better from Joey, his older shit (early Anal Cunt) sounds much better; his drum track here doesn't do him justice. Pete Sandoval is sicker than fuck too. But I would have to say I like them both.
I wouldn't say he's the sickest drummer, but if you haven't heard him look up Vadrum on youtube. He definitely has fun. haha

do any of you guys actually play drums? dont get me wrong petes incredible but why the drum check? his feet are blazing and steady but the rest is rolls down the toms.. honestly although i dont really like slipknots music (i used to but i got over it and moved on to real music like the melvins), joeys got it. this video of joey isnt the best either and neither are his drum solos... its playing to weird rythms in music succesfully that i find impressive. so dale crover wins.

hi @all drummers! ich bin selber schlagzeuger und mein vorbild, seit etwa 20 jahren, ist dave lombardo (slayer). ich finde auch morbid angel gut, also auch pete sandoval. auch joey von slipknot hats drauf, aber für mich ist und bleibt lombardo der beste drummer (nicht nur im metal bereich) überhaupt! als einen der schlechtesten drummer würde ich mal spontan lars ulrich nennen! also, wenn schon lombardo auf einer der vergangenen metallica-gigs einspringen muss, kann was nicht stimmen, oder?!?!?!

Slipknot are a rather gay and commercial band with a relatively talented drummer. Morbid Angel are fucking legendary and create music that makes me shit myself every time. However I'm not going to lie I think Pete's bass drums sounded like clicky trebly shit in that solo.

These two drummers are in the same kind of music, or extreme style, not even comparable with Buddy's jazzy style. While Buddy specializes in snare kind of percussion, he almost doesn't play with toms or bass. Joey is an average drummer at best. sure he can do a blast beat but that's really it.
Also, I played Pete's solo for a friend (now ex-friend) who was trying to convince me that the faggot from as i lay crying was the best drummer in the world, and his response after hearing it was that Pete sucks because, "his drumming has no melody." that was literally his exact reason.

Honestly PEte is a double bass monster. He is unique in the extreme zone. Joey Jordison is a drummer that I would rate C+ or B- . He is not bad. But pete the feet is technically and unique over the top of the death metal drummers. I would give him an A+ .............greetings

i think these 2 drummers are great a fool would think otherwise, 2 very good drummers in their own rights. joey himself has cited pete to be one of his influences. 2 very awesome drummers, they get the respect they deserve, at the end of the day the reason why slipknot are more popular is because there music is more accessible, MA's is so much more darker and more extreme that the target audience is so much more smaller. morbid angel are my favourite out of the 2 however.
