  • Beautiful trilogy; the same ancient heroic poems spoken around campfires surrounded by darkness many thousands of years ago have evolved into these films. The themes are still the same: inner/outer good vs. evil, the flawed hero against overwhelming odds, character development, and the acceptance of fate to name a few. Just watching these films awakens that nostalgic transcendence forever encoded into our genes from the thousands of generations of warriors, hunters, and farmers.

  • For the record, almost every composer for film works with computers to "mock up" the cues to demo for the director. When they sign off on them then they get transferred to real orchestras care of orchestrators and copyists. Sometimes Powell, Zimmer, and co. Will also layer electronics on top of the real players.

  • As much as I love Hans Zimmer, most of his newer work is done with synthesized instruments. John Powell is still keeping it real.

  • What a confidence on his face!

  • indudablemente de las mejores bandas sonoras que he escuchado para una pelicula, es hermoso e intenso a la vez...

  • Someone disliked the leader of Soundtracks?

  • @unemployedcomposer Actually, many, many movie scores now are done exclusively with very expensive computer systems. Man On Fire's soundtrack, by Harry Gregson-Williams, one of my favorites, was entirely fabricated by a PC. Someone taking the time, spending the money and putting forth the effort to work with an actual orchestra isn't as common as most people would think. I'm explaining this to you like I would to a child because you have the comprehension of one. Pssh. Troll.

  • @unemployedcomposer Um, no?

  • A great man, I honor him and I hope I meet him some day and can say himthat he is for me a very special composer!

    Greets

    Erik :-)

  • @ErikTributsch I've met him in 2007 at a convention. He is a very, very shy person. His publicist always protected him from his fans. I was lucky enough to get a photo with him after a praticing session. Anyway great talent, he just simply couldnt beileve he has such a big following and fan base.

  • If background music is the heart of this movie, then John Powell added just more than heartbeats. Very convincing music and I can't stop myslef listening to this again and again.

  • Wow, he does his music with actual orchestras. That's much more difficult than a computer program. I now love this guy more than ever.

  • i look up to this guy, and all (good) movie composers. You get a story and you have to create a soundtrack that fits it, from nothing, i think that's quite hard and this soundtrack is awesome.

  • what kind of Indian drums is he talking about? @ 2:00

I'd really like to know it . Thanks :]

  • Genius!!

  • @JAYCURREN I agree.

  • his Jonah Hex has rejected..replaced by marco beltrami

  • John Powell just keeps getting better and better..."How to Train Your Dragon" might just be his best work yet IMO. He's the kind of composer who would get me to go to the movie...JUST to hear the music :p.

  • '..thats what we're trying to do with this film..'

    'we really tease them'

'we should establish a new theme'

    'we wrote a new...'

    Modest dude

  • @iGotSpaceLikeNASA ...agreed wholeheartedly. It's amazing that the true geniuses usually seem to be the most humble. It seems that It's the ones who WOULD LIKE TO BE known as a genius that have to proclaim it about themselves.

  • @SoulLikeWater yeah the way he always says, 'We' instead of 'I' :)

  • simply genious.. when i watched the movie.. i kinda just focused on the action.. but when you hear the songs you realize the movie wouldnt be the same without this awesome soundtrack!!!

  • john said he did not conduct...

but now he did the conduct work....

  • @hilaryduffok Yeah, he did conduct Stop Loss's score. But that was just for the money (the movie had a low budget). He says that he's not going to do it again.

  • This is a great insight into movie scores just wish they had a something like this but longer on the bourne supremacy DVD

  • one of the musical genious i hv evern knwn,,,,,

  • John Powell's music has an amazing power. I listen to it while at work to isolate external disturbance and maximize internal concentration.

  • Bloody brilliant! The consistency from one film to the next and to the last...just amazing! This man can hear!

  • The opening cue to Faceoff is my favorite theme of his.

  • Powel has talend. I never heard much of him. But I love his music.

  • what is the exact name of the song playing in the backround at the very beginning?

  • Its from Bourne Identity and its called "bourne on land"

  • I love his score to Bourne Ultimatum. Really great job.

  • Powell is astonishingly astute with regards to nuances in music. WOW. If music be food, John Powell is a master chef.

  • @nianymue I agree.

  • John Powell is freakin amazing

    one of the best composers

  • kyle said hey uncle

  • John is just pure out gold!

  • john if a frekin beast

  • You know what i like about this movie? I love the sound track. You can imagine how your life's going just listening to his(John Powell) music.

  • can anyone tell me the name of the song at the end of the Bourne Ultimatum? it sounds european

  • At the credits? That would be 'Extreme Ways' by Moby.

  • I'm only familiar of John Powell during Face/Off, very nice soothing and action music, he can compose for sure

  • John Powell is definitely one of the most (if not THE most) underrated composers out there.

  • he's underrated? how did u know? he should deserve better....he's awesome

  • @Liberalman35 He surely is an very good composer.

  • hmmm he's very good, but Hans Zimmer is by far the best contemporary composer of this age. The Bourne soundtrack is amazing though. Now...can someone point me to the main theme track's name...the frantic base cello line

  • One track one could look up is "to the roof"... but it comes up a 3:10... I would seriously just buy the entire album... 'Supremacy's soundtrack is a lot better than the 'Identity' and every song is good.

  • Or more appropriately "Berlin Foot Chase" (That's the right one)

  • Forgot to thank you for that...got it ages ago :)

  • Zimmer is great, but he does work with many other composers on his score's. Powell, Jablonsky, Gregson-Williams, all came from Zimmer's studio. Heck listen to Batman Begins and the beginning of the Transformers score. ZImmer is incredibly talented, but tet's also keep in mind he's got tons of other composer working under him writing the cues.

  • You got a point there - excellent observation

Reminds me of Mozart and 'Saglieri'

  • Does anyone know where i can get sheet music for this?

  • and cello

  • I LOVE John Powell's music! This is his best work in Bourne Supremacy. I bought the soundtrack, and it's amazing. He is a GENIOUS!!

  • I bought it too and I listen to it all the time! The Bourne Identity soundtrack is also very good in its own way. =)

  • john Powell and john Williams are the best composers out there today, amazing.

  • John you're the best!! Any music he composed rocks!!

  • contrabass

  • this sound track is really great...

  • John Powell 'pusehd the envelope' with this new type of scoring. Great Job John!

  • The part where he burns the photos is amazingly beautiful. It moves me to tears everytime I hear it. And what he said about the percussion is exactly correct. John Powell is a master of music. The Bourne movies are an amazing mix of action and story, as well as an example of fantastic acting and directing. Even when I'm not watching the movie, listening to the music is the next best thing.

  • muy buena el tema..y excelente la pelicula

  • the scene with bourne burning pictures of marie is really moving

  • he is probally the frigging best movie music composer ever! (see bourne, italian job ect.)

  • One of my favorite scenes in the movie, scorning of the photos and the scene in russia with the girl who's parents were killed. One of my top favorite movies.

  • awesomeeeee

  • Great post...I LOVE the score of The Bourne Supremacy--its one of the reasons I love the film so much...glad they included the scene where Jason burns the photos of Marie...the music in that scene was so hauntingly beautiful

  • do you mean a cue played with bassoon? I love that one

  • i love his work on, obviously, the bourne supremacy, but also United 93. beautiful, especially his 9th track, "The End", and his 10th "Dedication", it was absolutely beautiful and tragic

  • does anyone know what software John Powell uses day to day ? I know sibelius 5 got a mention in producing the print out scores for the musicians to play but I wonder if he uses this as well for creating ideas and working with sounds....

  • bim bam bash is the greatest movie chase theme of all time. This guy is a total genius

  • has anybody the score of that beautiful score?i have been looking for it,but i haven´t found it.please if you have someone os the soundtrack send me a private message.thanks

  • If youre talking about the one right at the start of this video then its the Moscow Wind Up from the Supremacy soundtrack..

  • I agree, the music and film are inseperable.

  • does anyone have the NEW THEME he talks abt here???

i think its GOA and it is followed by New Memories and the final theme is ATONEMENT?????

    does anybody have it???

    pls help me???

  • If your talking about the chase in Goa, its unofficially called "Goa Chase" it can be found in the credits of the film

  • john powell is awesome. music was a HUGE part of bourne

  • He really should've been nominated for an Oscar for work on these films. This is some of the best music I've heard for an action film.

  • where did you get this documentary?

  • Special Features of the bourne supremacy

  • Where is it (studio)?

  • Powell is so right when he talks about starting the action music and the drums earlier, in the head of the character. It really makes you feels the anger in Bourne.

  • Nice behind the scenes doc. It's easy to take what goes into scoring a film for granted. Excellent.

  • Incredible music-- it's what really made the movie.

  • Powell is my fav conductor:D

  • I love the soundtrack. One of the best things in this movie.

  • nach deutschland 0:00 - 0:47

  • I agree with everyone, great movies, great stories, great music!

  • The soundtracks from both films are truly amazing. The moods they create are incredible. He really nailed the first 2 films, hopefully the 3rd is just as great.

  • His music in both of these films is brilliant.

  • The music in this film is superb. I was glued to my seat at the end of the film because I didn't want to leave the music
