In Max8, yes. In Max 10+ there should be an import/export option for Poser that will handle the sizes for you. But yeah, you'll almost always have to shrink your Max OBJs down to fit Poser. Resize things before you get them into Poser or resize them in Poser then export the OBJ once scale and translation is setup to your liking.
I was able to follow your 3dsmax tutorials very well on how to create and export .obj files to Poser, specifically objects to be used as fabric or clothing, Could you take it one step further and explain how you use the .obj file in Poser? I exported the file that I created using your tutorial but when I go to create a cloth simulation the "dress" falls to the ground even though I've set it's parent to the hips. The only way I was able to get around that was to keep the top polygons intact.
@Tobalyeth If your cloth item is falling to the floor then it needs to have some constrained groups. Please see the following video for a brief explaination. I'm working on a more specific video about dynamic gorups, now.
So to get a 3ds max obj into poser you just make it smaller?
