Even though it is waning, I can still see the remnants of the glory that's was once a mighty head of hockey hair. Zap.... you are an analogy for life.
That was almost as funny as the movie! To hear him talk about it like he was an actor and to use words like "the film" instead of "turd" "dog" and "imdb's 18th worst movie of all time" is hilarious. ...and to have his name wrong in the credits? That's so Rowsdower!
This is fucking awesome, it is so gratifying to see the real Zap Rowsdower. Final Sacrifice is a great film. Great in that it has provided me and my drunken friends innumerable hours of uproarious laughter. This is perhaps the finest work of MST3K.
.....His synopsis was so much more comprehensive....I've watched the movie a few times (with the help of MST3K) and I NEVER understood what it was about! It all makes sense now! XD
Haha, sweet...Reb Brown probably admitted Spacy Mutiny to be a big turd of a movie. Good-natured dudes who don't mind self-deprecating themselves in good fun are cool in my book
It's funny how he says Christian (Troy) took the brunt of their jokes but they were all good natured. So he was treated like a spaz on film and off. I honestly believe the shots of him in hole weren't even originally written for film. They just dug a hole and made him sit in it, just to see if he nerdy butt would do it all day long. Don't know where he is, Bruce? He probably commited suicide after the film was completed.
What a classy guy. Even if it is a little bit in jest, I'd be jealous of a guy who can walk down a street and hear someone go, "Oh my God! You're Rowsdower! I've seen that film you made 20 years ago!"
If you've never done something that you look back upon and go, "Ha, that was sure silly, and maybe a little bit cornball," you haven't lived!
Wow! I thought they found the guy for this movie at a heroin clinic - But he actually seems like a really soft-spoken decent guy! I checked on IMDb and found out he's also a trained Nurse!
Maybe he was a better actor than the film gave him credit for! :P
I mean, he PLAYED Rowsdower, but he AIN'T Rowsdower...
Wow.... you can tell by his face that he thought this movie didn't deserve to be made fun of.... even if i was a part of this movie i would have thought it needed to be made fun of!! WOW!!
Hasn't seen the episode? He must be afraid to find out what they say about him... they were a little rough on him personally with lines like "Well he blends in, he looks like a sack of garbage."
As ridiculous as the movie is, I actually thought he acted fairly well in it, he's no Harrison Ford (who he seemed to be trying to channel) but still decent.
Nice guy, good interview. Thanks for posting this.
It's hard to tell what is going to be great and what isn't. Think of the genesis of The Evil Dead -- not unlike most of MST3K's bad movies. That could have easily been ridiculous. I think we need more people with no money going out to make movies in the middle of the woods...
I get the idea that he doesn't want to say anything bad about anybody (except himself - notice that the only thing he criticizes is his own performance). Maybe he's just genuinely nice.
The Final Sacrifice is one of my favorite MSTs... and seeing Bruce recalling the filming of a dirt budget film with fondness shows what a classy gentleman he is. Thank you, Bruce. :)
Far as I'm concerned, you've saved us and saved all the world.
Kinda sad that this guy actually thinks he did a good job acting in the film. A lot of the charm of it is the total lack of any acting skill of anyone in it.
Please tell me this guy eventually sat down and watched the whole episode. I really think he'd get a kick out of it... and this is one of those MST episodes that I feel was so good because the guys were, in a way, really endeared of the movie. The fun that Bruce had shooting it totally came across and made for great MST fodder.
It occurs to me it'd be a pretty nifty feature to have interviews like this included on the MST3K box sets in a sort of extras section or some such. I rather enjoyed the interview, and Bruce Mitchell (Mitchell!) seems like a very nice guy who enjoys his job. :)
Jeez do some of the people here want him to apologize for the movie or something? He had fun making a crazy movie on no budget, and he gave an interview about it. There's nothing wrong with that.
This dude actually genuinely seems proud of that stupid role lol Finding someone that played a character named Zap, saw that completed movie, and felt the need to talk about it, is a winner in my book.
Now all he needs to do is Zap and Troy: The Legendary Journeys
Kind of crazy he didn't know of the cult following he has in the US. That is one of the awesome things about MST3K, they bring to light things that may have never seen the light of day.
Over the years, I've stumbled upon a lot of random nostalgic video clips while browsing YouTube, but I never, ever, ever, expected an interview with Zap Rowsdower to be one of them. Thank you for making me believe in the impossible.
Holy shit Rowsdower! His canadian accent is even stronger than Mike Holmes! That gets me thinking - now i need to write a movie with Mike Holmes and Rowsdower in it together.
Fun fact: Christian Malcolm made a cameo in episode 9 of Band of Brothers. Toward the end of the episode, when Capt. Nixon visits the concentration camp, Malcolm was the MP who offered Nixon a handkerchief.
I'm not gonna lie -- I actually really like The Final Sacrifice as a movie. Yeah, it's silly and low-budget, but it's campy in a good way and fun to watch. :D I'd love to get ahold of an un-riffed version.
