This would only make sense if you plan on driving up to your workbench and then drilling stuff. Otherwise better/cheaper motor/battery combinations could be used.
Is this any closer to being sold? Is it possible that I could buy the system that is currently for sale and get some information on how you adapted it for a wheelchair so that I could do it myself?
great thing about dewalt drills batteries you can get the black n decker batteries trim the tab on the neck and they both work perfectly and less than half the cost of a dewalt battery. If your lucky you could rip apart the battery cases and put higher quality cells in them ;)
can you test it with a 500 lb man cause alot of people in a wheelchair are fat their is 5 people in my wife's famliy that are between 300-600 lbs and 2 of them are in a wheelchair
too bad most of these cordless tools batteries cant be trusted to last, at $100 a pop for batteries probably cheaper to get an electric wheelchair with proven batteries. I use milwaukee and have had nothing but trouble with there li ion batteries and sent in so many for warranty.
Do these drills get very hot, and are you using nimh or lithium batteries
@DpxSystems, I see with this there is a REAL chance of "out of control" steering problems with just using the breaks on each wheel independently....need to work on that as your FIRST priority. You WILL be sued no doubt.......
so the DPX system is basically a miniature ring/pinion type system that utilizes reduction to gain power to move weight? what reduction ratio to you use?
Brilliant! I hope you do make a tidy profit from your idea, but more important is the quality of life you'll be improving for those able to afford the unit.
Approximately 3-5 miles per battery charge. You are exactly correct with your thoughts about going uphill when tired. It is "power on demand" when the user needs or wants it. Thank you.
Currently, the Dewalt 14,18,28 or 36 volt XRP. We are developing a universal mounting system that will allow the DPX Drive System to accept nearly any cordless drill.
Your performance specs are slightly misleading given drill duty cycles. AFAIK there is no such thing as a cordless drill with a 100% duty cycle. Minor nitpick really but you should educate your customers on duty cycles or you're gonna have a rash of people killing their drills. No one is gonna keep using this long if they have to rebuild or replace a drill every week.
The DPX drive unit will become available in January 2008. Please keep an eye on our website as we will post updated prices and availability very shortly. Thank you. DPX Systems
Hi...Thanks for your comments. As a matter of fact, performing wheelies are extremely easy either manually or using the power assist. Actually, wheelies can happen instantly and on demand. This systems has no bearing on using the wheelchair as it was intended manually. The occupaint does not even now it is beneath them. Near zero resistance and complete option of power on demand or manual operation.
Can you please tell me how much one of these cost for a manual wheelchair?

It was the rolling bench for our family since kids like
to fool around and bring a parent in for the ride with the
parent in the middle of 2 kids rolling the bench down
the hall. The kids had fun bringing the parent for the
ride down the nursing home halls in a 600+ pound
persons wheelchair.
Kids do things for fun even with a sick family member
in a nursing home.
A 19 year old boys idea for the wheelchair bench ride.

i think it's a cool idea, but i never had a problem when i was in a wheelchair. sore arms for the first day. but after that it was a breeze.

I'd rather see videos without sond than with rock music that has nothing to do with the video. It's sooooo annoying! I like the chair, though.

I have seen some very big wheelchair people,
I saw a wheelchair so big, that I and 2 other people
could sit in the wheelchair that was a chair for 1 very
morbid obese person but it was a chair that my whole
family could sit in who are 2 men and 1 woman total
540 pounds 160 pounds+ 180 pounds + 200 pounds
and their was lots of room for us and the person who
used the chair is 630 pounds living in a nursing home
and can't walk at all from just being morbid obese.

cool idea but the gears will eventually strip on the drill and the battery life is horrible.
brent245 2 years ago
Not true. Drills last for a long time, and the battery life is very usable, and spare batteries are easy to carry and small in size.
