If your lens flare option is greyed out, make sure your image mode is set to RGB!

Image > Mode > RGB

Not CMYK

Good quick tutorial. Thanks! I have a somewhat related question. Instead of a lens flare I want to add a star burst effect to a close up of a wedding ring to make the diamond look as though it captured the light from the flash and then refocused it out into a star burst. I have not been able to find a way to do this in PS. Can you please help!
