Thank you for your post. I have fond memories of going to the circus as a kid and am saddened to hear that the animals are tortured. Zoo's in India were never as interactive as the circus's. I wonder if there may be a way to expose children to the wonder that are animals without undue torture.

There are new billboard ads in my town for a circus that's coming here. My mom and I covered up one of them with animal rights posters. Someone had ripped the posters and threw the pieces on the floor the next day. I'm in the process of making new ones.

I went to the circus with my daughter and while i was standing in line i heard someone say "here they come" and when i looked it was Peta with signs and i couldn't stop staring at the signs to the point that the lined moved and my daughter said lets go. This female elephant was in heat at a circus in Cleveland. Well this little guy mouse climbs up a ladder behind her and just starts sweet talking the hell out of her. The elephant is so in heat, and so ready for anything, she turns around and backs right up to him. In a perfect world- humans wouldn't use animals for entertainment, but we don't live there. So reality, we have animals doing amazing displays for our entertainment. These animals need to be trained or they can not only endanger us, but they can endanger themselves if let un-incheck. Some of the elephants that died was due to disease where like a dog, it is better to place out of it's misery. That is called, humane. The bullhook is merely a luring and training tool, just like a whip.
Infact the last 2 times (since 2006? or 7?) ringling brothers were found to be within the parameters of the endangered species act. Despite the videos.
I don't know about all the practices of Ringling, but the reason why they seperate the calves from the family is because the adults get more violent with humans when they are with their calves- even if no human is even trying to get to the calf. So any human that decides to "keep" elephants can't leave the calf with the relatives for their own safety. Ringlings wasn't being "evil", just doing what they had to do. But this is partly why Elephants shouldn't be "kept".

Ringling treats their elephants a lot better now. I know they aren't perfect, but they've gotten A LOT better and the lack of PETA footage only serves to prove that. The 'tricks' they do are much more bland now, as well.
Any informed citizen knows that elephants have it bad off in every environment these days. To be perfectly honest, most of us know that Ringling is probably the best place for the elephants - especially because they have the CEC to look forward to when they are done touring!

I went to the circus with my daughter and while i was standing in line i heard someone say "here they come" and when i looked it was Peta with signs and i couldn't stop staring at the signs to the point that the lined moved and my daughter said lets go. Then once i got inside I was absolutely disgusted at the fact that the animals are forced to perform. I thought i wanted my daughter to experience the circus but i will never EVER go again...in fact how do i sign up for PETA!!!!

This female elephant was in heat at a circus in Cleveland. Well this little guy mouse climbs up a ladder behind her and just starts sweet talking the hell out of her. The elephant is so in heat, and so ready for anything, she turns around and backs right up to him. Stop attaching human characteristics to animals! Geeeeeezzz.... Animals are not human beings. I do not agree with forced animal captivity, but I do firmly believe in my dominion over them. I would not trade punches with an elephant however. i am not that stupid. These people should be treated the same way. Treat your animals as animals, but respect the pack instincts of the same animals to ensure their instinctive balance.

In a perfect world- humans wouldn't use animals for entertainment, but we don't live there. So reality, we have animals doing amazing displays for our entertainment. These animals need to be trained or they can not only endanger us, but they can endanger themselves if let un-incheck. Some of the elephants that died was due to disease where like a dog, it is better to place out of it's misery. That is called, humane. The bullhook is merely a luring and training tool, just like a whip.

I don't know about all the practices of Ringling, but the reason why they seperate the calves from the family is because the adults get more violent with humans when they are with their calves- even if no human is even trying to get to the calf. So any human that decides to "keep" elephants can't leave the calf with the relatives for their own safety. Ringlings wasn't being "evil", just doing what they had to do. But this is partly why Elephants shouldn't be "kept".

Ringling treats their elephants a lot better now. I know they aren't perfect, but they've gotten A LOT better and the lack of PETA footage only serves to prove that. The 'tricks' they do are much more bland now, as well.
Any informed citizen knows that elephants have it bad off in every environment these days. To be perfectly honest, most of us know that Ringling is probably the best place for the elephants - especially because they have the CEC to look forward to when they are done touring!

Asian elephants have been in use by humans a lot longer, they're smaller and take less food, and yes, they aren't as aggressive, although really- elephants aren't that aggressive unless threatened. Its their size thats the danger.

Have you ever thought of 'safe and humane entertainment'? Abuse is not what should entertain your kids... if you use that for entertainment then you are sick. Get a therapist then. Kids don't realize what goes on all the time, and that's when you step in and inform them that you can't take them to the circus because they hurt the animals. I'm sure they might understand that...

How would they like it if they were locked in a stall, beaten everyday, even though they didn't do anything wrong and made to perform in front of a bunch of people. I've actually experianced one of the caretakers beating the poor elephant when I was 3 years-old. It scared me. My point is animals aren't meant to entertain people, they're meant to be wild!
