It looked like the cutter had a plan and executed it. When a tree is leaning into another one there is quite often no other alternative but to cut the still-standing tree. He cut it slowly and had an escape route planned out.

From my point of view I would say this act was a very irresponsible thing to do. If the second tree was leaning into the first tree you should never have cut this tree down. (It looks to me that the second tree was leaning into the first.) But there could be other circumstances that I don`t know of, but anyway, never cut down a tree that has another tree leaning towards it. Safety reasons.

Dangerous snagfallers do it all the time. It is a judgment call.

Unless the leaner tree it too big (which this one might have been), you can often buck the leaner and hope that causes it to fall off the other tree. Or you can also fall a leaner pair sideways or in accordance with the weight of the leaner.

My biggest worry with the situation in this video is just that the snow would make it harder to run like hell, which is definitely required in this situation.

I'm glad he didn't get hurt. No matter how good ya are at felling, you get these situations once in a while. I had to do a climbing job in a big ass oak tree once that had another big ass oak leaning against it, that had another big ass oak leaning against that one.. Storm damage. It was scary but great when the two big leaners were freed and went whizzing past me while I was up there. Like killer dominoes.
