  • It not manufactured in large quantities, it is a very strong neutron emitter, 1 microgram emits170 million neutrons per minute. It only comes as salts due to the fact that the pure metal have not yet been accomplished.

  • ...And $185/mcg Cf-249

  • Californium-stupid ass name

  • why is it so expensive. dang bra.

  • 350 billion per pound

  • @irkiIIer you can get 1 pound for $22,650,000 on the black market :)

  • i just found out it costs yeah like over $ 60,000,000 to manufacture 1 gram

  • Metal detectors? What does the californium do exactly in this case?

  • It is one of the most expensive materials on the planet, so I assume this is not true.

  • His accent is really different (and really cool); where is he from? I mean like, what general area? If you don't mind. :]

  • @boiledcabbage06 England, probally Cambridge or East Anglian region.

  • Hope they can come up with a substance that detects plane hijackers as well : @

  • are pretty female lab technicians really californium girls?...I heard the rumour but I am not convinced...

  • @shenstone Thank you

  • I got some Californium on Ebay for $50 (free shipping)

  • Damnit, I want to see a sample of it.

  • Californium doesnt cost that much. In 2001 a few workers were arrested in Russia for trying to sell 5 grams of californium on the black market for around $50,000.

  • really?

how much would it really cost to make?

  • @InBloom10 Are you also talking about Californium-252

  • @InBloom10 actually californium is sold up to 68,000$ a milligram

  • this is so not true, first its americium, and second a gram of clifornium costs around 27 million dollars! it has no use due to it being too expensive

  • uh, $10 for .0001 of a gram... $100 for .001

  • It does have a use; it is used for things such as nuclear starters, used for scanning metallic stress in a plane; so that the plane doesn't rip apart during flight; there aren't many uses; but there are enough

  • Metal detectors in households? Did he mean smoke detectors?

  • Pretty sure he was talking about the metal detectors to find things in the ground...like rings and all that. =/

  • Maybe I was thinking of Americium. Im pretty sure they use that in smoke detectors.

  • uhh... you are correct!

  • THey wouldnt put them in houses because its 27 million US dollars for 1 gram

  • well then endanger your house and harvest it

  • no thank you, I would like to but then I would need a particle accelerator, I would need to buy shit for my basement to make it so that NO radioactivity escapes...so I'll need to have a garage sale first, and then maybe I'll take out a loan for like 1 000 000 000 000 dollars

  • no it isn't

  • Go California!

  • ...ium!

  • HA (did a chris matthews HA)
