  • I think Warner executives are just idiots....this movie IT'S NOT FOR KIDS and it shouldn't be for kids, I think that this movie is for the people who WERE kids and read the book in their childhood

  • They shouldn't re-shoot the movie because of kids crying. That's dumb if they do.

  • If i remember correctly the book was pretty frightening for children too. Some psychologists suggested that it be taken out of libraries. To me it makes perfect sense to make a kids movie thats dark like this to teach them how to deal with wild emotions because the monsters really just act like big children. Last i heard they were not going to reshoot and the release date was set for October 16

  • If the director wants to "protect" the integrity of "his" film then he should finance it himself

he is just an employee of WB otherwise

  • agree. let it be.

  • I'd imagine part of the target audience for "Where the Wild Things Are" would be older viewers who read the book when they were younger

  • Amen, brother.

  • so what , a majority of the viewer will be older kids who as children loved the book

  • what the hell just because some kids will get scared or scream there head off I loved that book when I was a kid and I still think it is cute

  • oops i ment to say their sorry

  • if you dont like the scary one deal...it looks like a kickass movie I read the book in kinder garden

  • Continue part 2----Kids today have a much higher horror threshhold then most people from back then. You shouldnt dumb down a movie just because some kids cant handle it, slap a PG-13 on it and make sure those sensitive 5 year olds cant watch it, that way everyone is happy.

  • Heres how I see it...Back in the 70's - 80's, I cant remember which but my dad told me about this. They came out with a movie called "THE BLACK CAULDRON" its a cartoonish movie about a boy who has to protect this cauldron. Anyways they said it was too scary for the movie theaters so they banned it from the theaters. If you watch this movie today you think why did they ban this??? ---to be continued in next post

  • damn right... stop treating children like children. I nearly crapped myself during Ewoks Caravan of Courage...as a child that is... really.

  • If anything......it should b scarier......not like it's a barney productions already.....lol

    XD

  • Holy krud dude, I so freaking agree with you! Arg! I can't believe they don't "like" it! I mean COME ON!!! That's what makes a movie GOOOD is if they DO add some intense moments! Oh my God, I'm so pissed now. The trailer looks freaking epic. And I swear to God if they reshoot or even tone it down, I'm not going to be so thrilled about it. Adding more depth and a darker tone is what MAKES a movie! For God's sake, kids need to GROW up! And adults need to learn to be more fucking open minded!

  • An early cut of the film was screened in Pasadena in 2008, receiving mixed reviews. Rumors pointed to Jonze's dark interpretation of the story startling the test audience, and resulting in Warner Brothers' decision to re-cut the film. It is also speculated that the film received massive reshoots to make its central character more likable. At this point it is unclear whether Jonze or the studio has final cut over the movie, which could massively affect its tone.

    Ghey

  • Movie studios have progressively reduced the quality of potentially good flicks knuckling under to the demands of conservatism and Christian parents. Grow some balls.

  • Amen friend. Though >30 min. narrated animation withholding the integrity of the original illustrator are perfectly acceptable. As long as the narrator's voice is not too irritating.

  • Fuck kids.

I want to see a dark monster movie damn it.

  • ok i agree wit you mayne but i think they should leave the scary stuff kuz it looks like an amazing movie i used to love the book and ya idk i kant wait for it to come out does anyone no when that is?

  • Hey, if Sendak is ok with the darker treatment, where the hell does the movie studio get off bitching about it? It was SUPPOSED to be a little bit scary.....otherwise it would have been called "Where the Time Things Are."

  • Another movie ruined by stupid test audiences. :shakes fist angrily: I really don't think Spike will back down. If they reshoot it I'm guessing he won't be directing.

  • they should leave it if its dark and scary i can see a more maturer audience liking this anyway and it was made for them

  • make it an R rated film! with blood and killing!

  • lol, maybe not that intense, but thats pretty much what i'm saying. Where the wild things are in itself is a pretty messed up concept. It made some kids cry when it came out, it was like aimed at children, but written with intentions of an adult reading it. THEY SHOULD MAKE 2 VERSIONS!!

  • lol "complete sh!t!"

  • This video was put up Feb 2008. I read in RollingStone Magazine - Nearly 3 months ago - (An interview with Spike) He states that the movie is back on track and it will be exactly what anyone who's watched this video wants from this movie.

  • I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU

    artistic expression all the way

  • I don't know anything about this movie or the book but from what I've seen the monster who appeared in the clip with the little boy was preety cute.

  • i totally agree! this book was made for our generation and the way they are shooting it sounds amazing.... the kids that grew up reading it(us) will love that version. if they make it all happy it will be stupid... its a book about monsters for crying out loud!

  • i mean like it seems like an awesome movie with an indie feel

  • lol

this should be a teen movie

  • well said

  • the book was dark to begin with. its for more mature younger kids.

take a look at the brothers grimm fairy tales, or more recently that three little pigs adaptation with the uber-surreal, gritty illustrations. i always loved that one as a kid.

  • darker i like!!!!

  • this is the freeking problem No one has anything to do but bitch about stuff anymore. If its too scary for your kid dont take the little pansie to see it. They are doing the same crap with toys now-a-days. They have the reg. GI Joes Transformers and Marvel Heroes toys. And then they have the completely child tyke version. Are you F'n kidding me. If you donrt want your kid playing with it wait till hes older.

  • hey man, how about: WHo gives a FUCK about what the director thinks? How about preserving the integrity of the book? That doesn't have anything to do with the movie being jeapordized because its too dark for little kids. I'm just asking you why you think what the director wants to do is so important in the light of this classic book.

  • i think this movie is more for the people who originally grew up with it. its great to see another perspective of the film, this one being darker. if they are really worried about the kids that should have disney do a full fledged cgi version and let this version be. i can't believe spike jonze is being put through this.

  • Amen

  • You are a genius my friend. Very well stated and i agree 100%.

And im going to see that movie no matter what cuz i grew up with that book.

  • agreed

  • Right on!

  • Thanks for the blog! Shorten your shots and lay an audio bed;-)

  • alot of people dont klnow that shrek was based off a childrens book. yeah, in fact i own it.and shrek said words like "ass". give rthese guys a break.

  • warner brothers should forget about the upset parents and children and leave it up to Disney to provide the happy and cute movies for children. the kids dont like it? well dont go see it. problem solved.

  • I hope that Warner Bros will cut the director some slack because I think that this could be an instant classic.

  • se taire! arrêter la chaîne de poster ces commentaires!

  • Fuck kids....plus WB sucks

  • i grew up on this book am now 20 and agree it should look scary i seen a picture of it at asr on the lakai booth i thought it was just an add but now that i hear its real am looking foward to seeing it please dont change it spike jonze is a genious and knows what he is doing

  • fuck yea agreed we should sign a petition

OH YEA by the wya WHAT FUCKING KIDS READ THE BOOK NOW? all the kids who read the book are all old now and dont wanna see a fucking Disney movie

  • i Agree with you al the way WTF!

that book alls had a dark side, so leave it the way it is!

  • the kids who grew up on that book are now adults who would love to see a dark scary shit your pants version of the book they love. screw these little kids and there moms who want everything done perfectly so their kids grow up all suppressed and not ready for the world. as long as spike jonze puts out his version (even if only on dvd) then im cool. they can make another bullshit version. its not like the same movie hasn't been made either just look at batman and the hulk for starters.

  • Correct!

  • first of kids should cry... thats what they get for being kids... seocnd the boook itself was dark.... look at the art... its nto bright and cheery.... fuckign do it right or dont do it at all

  • they better not fuckin remake it

    fuck the parents

    and/or kids!

this movies for the generations that grew up with the book

not for the generation now that grows up with crap ontop of more crap expecting this to be one more notch of their crap

    if you get my drift...

  • whats wrong with Tim Burton, i mean he made the batman movies really good, and he made the nightmare before christmas. in fact, he has a talent for making movies dark, and child appropriate at the same time.

  • Tim Burton should remake it

  • GO MR.DEATH!

  • I like the way this guy thinks!

    :-D

  • preach it borther. i luv spike jonze. a great director. those kids need to tuffen up

  • I never cried while my mom read me the story at night. Those little kids were a bunch of yuppie bitches.

  • The realism of the monsters is what will make this film matter.

Garfield was a mega-sad, watered down mutation of the character...

I soooo pray they do not modify a classic just to please today's kids..

Believe it or not, _I_ would be the one flocking to see this film!! Not my daughter!

And I'm sure this will be the case for the majority of people who are looking foward to the movie version.

    xxx

  • WTF they should not change it the monsters post to be kind of scary now its gonna be a movie for kids who pee their pants all the time

  • that IS bullshit.. this book is like.. the backbone of childhood experience. the audience would mostly be people who read this as a child, and would be AWESOME

  • i watched dark crystal, labyrinth and other "kid movies" when i was a little kid and found only one part that scared the shit out of me. that was the part with the weird pink creatures that can take off their body parts, that was it, i watched the rest of the movie and loved it. I think kids now and days are a little too over protected. Shit I was running around digging holes and other crazy shit when I was a kid. I hope they don't change a thing.

  • Amen... ...how bright, cheery and doumbed-down was The Dark Crystal, a timeless classic? Will they do the same thing when Del Toro does The Hobbit, and ask him to lighten it up a bit? Lord save us from our children.

  • Unfortunately, most children are fragile little bike helmet wearing pussies these days, due mostly to their lame overbearing parents. When I was 5 my friends and I loved to have the shit scared out of us by a good movie.

So once again, it sounds like a potentially great movie is in the process of being ruined by a bunch of over sensitive squares who have nothing better to do then attend test screenings. If only the studios had some balls, the movie would make shitloads of money anyway.

  • I dont agree, its aimed for little kids dumbass. If its too scary, it wont do good in the box office. just like Disney's The Haunted Mansion.

  • Disney's makes kids stupid till they are like 17 and nobody can do anything but kill them

  • Disney kicks ass. Shut the fuck up.

  • How do you know Spike Jonze intended it to be aimed primarily for little kids? There are plenty of dark and scary movies that make a ton of money at the box office. Besides, I seriously doubt that Where The Wild Things Are is actually scary to begin with.

It's dipshits with your attitude that are the reason why so many Hollywood movies are so dumbed down and sugar coated these days.

That is not why The Haunted Mansion tanked. It tanked because the script blew and Eddie Murphy does too.

  • Hey, i dont want it to be "cute" either but im just saying that Im sure mostly kids will go see it and if its too scary it wont get good rateings. Thats how these little pamsy kids are these days.

  • I think in any case, WTWTA is unfilmable. Even if you take an "adult" approach, the focus of Sendak's book is more on Max's subconscious world than any story.

  • its coming out this year! october 3rd!

  • no in 2009 they changed it again!

  • I thought Paul Dano was narrating.

  • i bet they will have those cut out parts on dvd.

  • I totally agree with you! I'd be so sad if it turned out like another one of those half-assed CG kid flicks.

  • spike jonze just got fired!

  • i think your right

  • Calm down son.

  • I AGREE IN EVERY THING YOU JUST SAID!
