@portwerk Make sure you take both hands out of the straps and hold the polls in one hand. If you're not ready to get on the lift let it go and get the next one. When you get off a chairlift place one hand on the chair and push and lean forward as you stand up.
@2shytalk When you are trying to improve your skiing it is much better to ski an easier slope well than just throwing yourself down steep slopes. Glad you enjoyed the lessons, have a great season.
I tried this technique and noticed that my uphill ski (and foot) needs to be slightly forward of my downhill ski to make this happen. My feet aren't exactly together. It looks like in this video that this is also what is happening. Is this correct? I haven't seen an instructor on Youtube point this out yet, but it seems the only way for the mechanics to work.
@nukedaddy That's right the uphill foot is slightly ahead of the downhill foot but don't overdo this,it will help keep your body nice and square to the skis.
@elatemedia I like to think about keeping my uphill foot underneath me, pulling it back. This I find allows for an engagement of the uphill ski and getting away from the "flying V" or inside ski divergence at the end of the turn, before the transition, starting somewhere just after the apex of the turn
@nukedaddy Shift your weight to your uphill ski before you turn(step up and on it). That's really all your're doing. Ski on one ski (the ski facing downhill) and the shift your weight to the other ski when you turn and do the same. It doesn't mater how steep the hill is. The other ski will carry along automatically. But in powder and moguls you have to balance on both skis. If you closely watch slalom skiers they are skiing on one ski when they turn. Now go hit those double diamonds.
Thank you for your reply, i keep watching the video for the intermediate ski lesson-keeping skis parallel, it sounds easy than it looks, the difficult bit for me will be the 1,2 step and just slightly roll my knee, all tips greatly recieved as I go on my ski hols on the 18th this month. Regarding the tuition brilliant. great instructor.
I watched them all. I am an advanced skier, nevertheless, I see that i miss some minor moments in my technique, or I simply forget it during long summer "vacation" between skiing seasons. And I found easy technique explanations which I use to teach my wife and my friends. Waiting for new lessons.
You wanna know how I learned? I went to the biggest slope on the resort and went down it. Sure I crashed about 8 times but by the time I made it down I had far surpassed many others.
I just want to tkank you ! I've been a snowboarder for years and i decided to try to ski this season ! I must say, you are -by far- the best ski teacher i've ever seen !
I'm not exagerating but in two days i've achieved quite a good level. My girlfriend who skies since she walks say that i'm not a beginner anymore and i'm more like an intermediate-advanced skier. Yes i've got lacks of confidences sometimes but it will come ! I really enjoy skiing and that's only thanks to you !
@swissgi Thanks very much it really does make a difference to hear positive feedback, you're obviously confident and that makes a heap of difference long may it last!thanks again.
@swissgi Dude I'm in the same situation as you! I need to learn to ski in a short time after snowboarding for 4 years. What do you recommend? I've been getting much disrespect as a boarder and I need to learn. Fast.
@cvrvids First i would recommend you to watch carefully all the vids on this chanel ! It really makes a difference !
If you want a more..personal opinion I would say that speed (i do not mean supersonic spead but just a good momentum) makes everything easier on skies for me! Before been able to take enough speed, i had to learn how to break efficiency ! to do so i learned to slide (sideways), to feel how the skies behaves !
I've never started with the snowplough thing tho ! Hope it helped
if only i watched this before i went skiing last week. I couldnt work out why when i was going slowly it felt so awkward. When i go fast i dont do this but at slower speeds i felt like i had to
i ski in norway, good but a language i dont understand, we usually go with the family, im the best and the youngest, writing this im 13! wooo, anyway, this was very helpful, cheers!
@Baillie1940 Nice one. You'll be instructing the family next ;o) We've got loads more films, lessons and reviews on our channel to get you ahead of the game. Enjoy.
@Branchfrog Darren uses the English language in his own special way... 'practice makes perfect' might be the original saying but there's plenty involved in sports tuition (martial arts especially) who use 'practice makes permanent'!
actually he is right. Its like learning to ride a bicycle, one you mastered it your body/muscles will never forget. even 20 later if you get on a bike automaticly you will remember how to ride it.
@supamitcho753 It was probably him - you should have said hi! Glad you had a good time skiing in Serre Chevalier, next time why not book a lesson with Darren? Thanks for posting!
@elatemedia hey. when i whent skiing with my school my instructor said you have to use the whole hil bye turning side to side what was the purpose of that>?
It would be great if in the App description on the AppStore there were the movies list and titles so that it's possible to evaluate which App (Beginner/Intermediate/Advanced) is the appropriate for a potential customer.
@zuipli Absolutely not! Darren is talking about how to avoid it, it's an easy mistake that even advanced skiers can make when skiing, a hangover from the earlier stages of learning how to ski.
@zuipli i find it so impressive when people say "my english isnt good" when it is really good, and its not their first language. im American. keep skiing!!
@ericksonmpe There are several skills handling a foreing language, not just writing; I was referring to my comprehension of spoken english, in fact listening to Darren video I did understand that he was suggesting to do the one-two movement and not to avoid it. Anyway I starded two weeks ago to skiing in parallel and I don't do the one-two movement ! Don't rush the turn :))))
Excellent instruction thx!

doing the 2 step can also becouse you don't have enough speed or space around you, try to keep momentum.
