  • 1:56 this just earned a spot in my favorites!

  • Came on here to listen to it..and didn't finish it because its so soft it put me to sleep

  • hermosa, esplendida, fascinante, suprema esta pieza encantadora

  • The Pianist.. :)

  • Horowitz is one of the most extraordinary pianists. Powerful mind and incredibly skillful hands!

  • This Chopin Ballade is so melancholic and intense that it makes me feel an (I'd say insane) nostalgy about a friend who is interesting in every way, not an easy personality... but who is on my mind so often that it hurts. I'm not ashamed of it, but I'm right to feel confused sometimes...

  • Shut up! Enjoy the music!

  • @mastermeron I can't like this comment enough. :P

  • i can bet that this isnt horowitz

  • @doomless198 I would be willing to bet that it is Horowitz. Why do you think it isn't him?

  • Zimmerman is better sorry Horowitz :)

  • @Saimotuser And that is YOUR opinion. :-)

  • horowitz is my favourite pianist, but just listen michelangeli playing this ballade and you will listen the real GOD.

  • Very nice piece that I like very much.

  • Actually I also saw the KFC commercial, too, but just stop with the jokes about Chopin, okay?

  • @musicianjoelin Also, when I watched it on another computer, there is no commercial (so some may see it and some may don't)?

  • KFC is better than Angry birds I guess. LOL. That's what we get now. They must've confused Chopin with a little Bethoven. HAHA

  • In what BPM is this?

  • 1:18 - Danny Elfman borrows this in The Nightmare Before Christmas Finale/Reprise "And sit together, now and forever."

  • Yes. That's good. But: WHERE IS CHOPIN????

  • It nice to follow the notes and see how music unfolds.

  • No-one made the piano sing like Horowitz did.

  • That ending gets me everytime.

  • On this piece, Horowitz and Gilels set the standard that other pianists strove to reach. Greatest Chopin Ballade 1 performances IMO are by Horowitz, Gilels, Argerich, and Bolet's is also extraordinary. These artists perform with immense musicality and expression - that is what differentiates. Others mentioned here, Kissin, Biret, Zimerman, etc, while great pianists are not at Horowitz's level.

  • @Bret6464 bro zimerman is the man - you don't know wtf you're talking about

  • @asianwhitenigger I see, you do know wtf you are talking about, congrats!!! Go praise Zimerman all you want bro, I do not/will not listen to Zimerman - boring! :-)

  • u sould listen to this from IDIL BIRET ..much much much better than this..i cant believe horowitz played like this..he iwas better than this

  • @londonerci Horowitz performed and recorded the Chopin Ballade No.1 many different times - none of the YT videos have great sound, his Carnegie Hall performance is the best. Search for the "Horowitz Carnegie Hall complete concert"

  • Mistakes? What mistakes. Gawd. This is beautiful.

  • yay im so lucky i have the highest rated comment respect for those who like :)

  • hm, very hard to choose...

    kissin or horowitz?...

  • @MrSlimilS Zimerman.

  • 07:26 Amazing!

  • Comment removed

  • I can't believe that this is Horowitz, supposedly one of the greatest pianists of the 20th century - this recording is a sloppy, schizoid, unpoetic mess.

  • @zandaz3 heh, I have to agree.. I prefer Rubinstein and Zimerman. Zimerman over Rubinstein too..

  • @Bristlehoth Zimmerman's interpretation is just, out of this world. Favorite for this particular piece.

  • ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ஜ۩۞۩ஜ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

I just posted my interpretation of Nocturne opus 9 ,No.2. I would appreciate your comments. Please click on my link 'alfonsopablo' next to this comment to listen.

  • Concertos, ballades, nocturnes, etudes, preludes, scherzos, waltzs... all's Chopin's masterpieces! Bravo!

  • terrible mistake on 2:04 ooOO

  • i wish people would stfu in the background lol, can hear shuffling and sniffing :\

  • I enjoyed this the first time I saved it; with the terrible bebop )(*^&*&@ advertisment now in place, I'm deleting it.

  • Out of curiousity, where are the mistakes in this piece? I might have overheard them.

  • @Montyleeny14 The most obvious is around 2:03

  • @mrEarsMD What's wrong there?

  • @Montyleeny14 He's super sloppy hitting that accented A in the left hand and that even throws off his timing for a second or two.

  • There are three types of pianists :Jew pianists ,gay pianists and bad pianists.

Horowitz was one of the best in the world....

  • @FiddlerAdam Did you not see where I typed 4:00 to 4:57? Nowhere did I say people should bang the whole piece through. Sure I made it sound like ff = emotion, but I'm well aware of dynamics. I studied classical piano for 10 years, and have also studied music theory and history. And I'm well aware of what a crescendo is......gradually getting louder, decrescendo is the opposite.

I was making a comparison of those particular measures with other pianists.....and I'm simply saying Horo does it best

  • The awkward moment when both the top comments are by the same person...top comment hog!

  • 4:00 to 4:57, no one does it as good as Horowitz....they either play too lightly, or rush it....this section NEEDS emotion. I really hate it when people think Chopin is all about light touch.....it won't kill anyone to try some FF

  • thumbs down, but i don't like he's playing :|

  • @gogoshvili94 You won't get any thumbs down from me, because your opinion is your opinion, but you got me curious now: whose interpretation would you rather listen to?

  • @welsj91 i prefer tzvi erez. i don't like horoitz's because he's too fast sometimes, especially from 7:24 7:58

  • thumbs down, but i don't like he's playing :|

  • you can find sheet music @ sheetsearch . com

  • With today's musician's, this type of melody cannot be mustered... A story inside a story practically.

  • I wish i could see a video or something of Chopin playing his own music, too bad technology was not that updated back then :( Beautiful Music!!! :D :D ♥

  • I am so pissed I keep getting commercials

    I want to stab someone

  • @LCIsinclair Get firefox or Chrome and install Ad-Blocker. It works! :)

  • how hard is actually to play this? about same level as his etudes? more like nocturnes? give an idea people... :P

  • A maior musica ja feita !

  • CHOPIN FOREVER

  • chopin is my soul mate.

  • I blame Justin Beiber for the 69 dislikes.hahaha!

  • amazing artist amazing composer and amazing video- awesome+-

  • Exactly what I want to hear before I listen to Chopin. A freaking KFC commercial. Chopin and fried chicken just go so well together.

  • @DiscoLemonade87 are you being ironic?

  • @DiscoLemonade87 Kentucky Fried Chopin

  • @nerdwithnolife goes well with lemonade. and disco.

  • @nerdwithnolife funny!

  • @DiscoLemonade87 Stop lying. This video or in other words all classical videos have no commercials on them.

  • @Vesivian well, I have had to watch some photocamera commercial before youtube showed me this video, so it seems to me that you are the one who's lying.

  • @erghtrfgh Stop making up lies, commercials never show up for classical music.

  • @Vesivian cool story bro

  • @DiscoLemonade87 That's funny, I don't see any ads... Oh, that's right, I'm using Adblock Plus.

  • i like everything except the final.not for the wrong notes, but his interpretatiion, i dont like it! But Horowitz is a God however!

  • it kinda sounded like they were booing him at the end lol. but that was freakin amazing

  • Damn commercial i wanted to listen to Chopin not watch a Justin Beiber advertisement!!! I know you pay for me to watch videos and listen to music but next time pick something better!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • i simply love chopin.

  • needs to be louderrr! D:

  • remember "the pianist " the movie

  • @noxgia That movie<3

  • @xXmaryXblahXx i am from mexico, I do not speak much English sorry

  • BRAVO!!!

  • l'ultima parte a 6000 wowowowow

  • thumbs up if you didnt need movie for that

  • @doomless198 lol! I actually wanted to watch the movie because of this near divine piece! XD.....The movie was way better than I thought it was going to be too rofl...

  • The Pianist. Nuff said.

  • I don't have that many fingers. *Sigh*

  • @sosoangel3 internet slap

  • @1:44 Favorite part!

  • BRAVO!!

  • ...Horowitz played this thing all the time, so this was for him "another day at the office", no particular reason to "put out", so you get all the "gory particulars" of his approach...it is so crazy that I am clear out of vocabulary...but I am not going to bitch...he does sound like Horowitz...not like my mother-in-law...or even my current girlfriend...

  • i just found out i have the highest rated comment. this is amazing my life is now complete :P

  • @kmerabet1 You can die now.

  • @InsertName125 ok then, but just make sure they play this at my funeral.

  • @kmerabet1 it is kinda fun isn't it? haha :) now you have TWO highest rated comments!

  • How do you people not like Horowitz? It's pure emotion.

  • favorite part is in 7:22 - 7:35

  • @77Mirman77 The most difficult part xD

  • One of the greatest piano pieces I've ever heard.

  • you can find free piano sheet music @ sheetsearch . com

  • Am I going crazy, or is he hitting a wrong note at 3:57? The first note of the measure clearly sets G sharp for the rest of the measure, but then the grace note at the end of the measure is being played as G natural. Every version of the sheet music I can find has it this way, but every recording I can find is playing it the other way. *What's going on???*

  • @z0gster After consulting with the internet, I've decided that I'm right and Chopin seems to have some weird convention he uses throughout this song where marking a note sharp doesn't apply to other octaves, even within the same measure. Interesting.

  • Melody at 4:26 is epic. -dies-

  • too many mistakes ! This is not because it is Horowitz that must give him everything.

  • The melody that comes in at 1:45 is from another plane. Its nothing like anything I have ever heard before or since...

  • I don't get why everyone keeps complaining that this is a terrible interpretation.

    1. This piece is already so great i would enjoy listening to a 9 year old play it (if they have the technical ability at least).

    2. Crappy Horowitz is better than pretty good by anyone else.

    3. It's just not that bad.

  • 4:30 Needs more cowbell

  • man snored at 3:00,wadda jackass...

  • he does rubato. he does fermata. how could u say u can't like this

  • I respect all kinds of interpretations, but I can't like this one. A ballad like this should be played with more feeling and a bit less strenght. This is good for a Polonaise, not for a ballad...

  • pretty sad when the featured video is lady gaga..

  • my favorite part is 0:00 to 8:59

  • Lots of bravura but surprisingly little poetry from Horowitz in this performance...the mistakes are no problem, but the whole thing is permeated by a kind of extreme anxiety...and the ending is just totally harsh and out of control. Not his best by any means, but I'll take not-Horowitz's-best any day.

  • The one thing that bothers me is he doesn't fermata. When there's a clearly marked fermata.

  • Wow, at first i thought u were using Finale because it sounded so awesome. And then, LIVE AUDIO?!!! Lol, that just shows how absolutely amazed i am as to how u managed to play this, although i have seen many pianists out there with your level of experience. It truly is amazing how people can play piano like this. Someday, ill learn to play this way. I`ll see to it. Anyway, i was wondering if you would like to check out a piece of music i made with the use of Finale. I have two incomplete samples

  • @typohear

This was performed by Vladimir Horowitz, a concert pianist :P

  • 2:47 - 3;10 seems too fast...

  • The greatness of Horowitz lies in his ability to share the clarity-he really pays attention to the score in the most creative and original playing. You may not like it but he really is the greatest pianist dead or alive.

  • please everybody, can you hit the button dislike and spam for all the j.b. comments. it's sad mentionning him on such greats compositors video

  • I gotta say i'd rather listen to classic music to pop music...classical music is real :)

  • I found this amazig, i like Chopind for his sensitive LOVE IT

How or where did you get the sheets?

  • I've never heard Horowitz play this. Now I know I don't like it. :-) I don't understand his dynamic, his articulation, his rubato, I just don't understand him. It's very strange performance for me because I love Zimerman's version and that is absolutely different music (and much more beautiful I think but it's personal). I'm a little confused now. :-)

  • Honestly I don't like how Horowitz play, I prefer Rubinstein.

  • @Svivanti Son personas muy ignorantes jajajaja estás en lo cierto.

  • 56 people wanted to add it to their favorites but were too shaken up by their emotions to get the button right!

  • 56 people don't like this song! Oh my gosh!!

  • 56 people suck dick in hell

  • Comment removed

  • Brilliant, I want to see the sheet though, 360p is too low I cannot see it well... I want to learn from this, are works this old public domain? If so I'm going to download and study this piece, if not I'm going to buy it anyway :)

  • @nutelina I got it, wonderful masterpiece

  • Truly a wonderful, timeless, classic, performence. Horowitz can't be beat. Love the applause form the the audience as well. Thanks for posting.

    TBT

  • i got chopin fever hahaha

  • 05:10-05:30

    wow.

  • Mmm, it is ...

I think that a performance in Carnegie Hall is the best.

This is busy and is obstinate.

  • heaering abily wasted on 55 users

  • Amazing! even when I prefers Zimerman's interpretation.

  • incroyable!!

  • Best performance of this piece ever, Horowitz is the best!

  • Get the audio from this song at speedyconversion doht cohm.

  • Please call the ambulance!!! Bravo

  • I personally don't care for this interpretation of this song. It sounds very choppy to me.

  • @sobefobik Too choppy for some Chopin?! Sorry...I had to <.<

  • I dont understnad

    we all make mistakes

so why must we point out others?

    Leave Horowitz to be

He is one of the greatest pianists ever for nothing

SO what if he makes a mistake

  • >look up classical music

    >dont expect justin beiber comments

    >somehow find them anyway

    Never change, youtube.

  • I like horowitz because he grasped the concept that making a few mistakes is ok as long as the overall shape and spirit of a piece is intact.

  • 4:16 4:47 Oh my good makes me feel in heaven

  • Allright, all the haters of me, i'm sorry for mentioning just bieber in this beautifull masterpiece, let's just keep up the viewercount and listen to horowitz using his magical hands play the piano, my kind regards, Chopin erh, NLjesseNL.

  • HELL YEAH

  • To those of you who think Horowitz was overrated, listen to this recording of the Ballade: watch?v=08Ec4xkmWqM

  • zimmerman's is 100 times better. i dont even know what to call this its like he was having a seizure throughout the whole thing. he is a good pianist but very overrated and not the best. i could play it better than this.

  • @hbmp88 you're over-rated as a life-form.

  • @John19182004 always aim high.

  • @hbmp88 Aim high Willis! Aim high! (Quote from 40 year old virgin) Anyone remember? :)

  • @John19182004 That's a little harsh.

  • So he is human after all.

  • @nahedh Chopin is not mortal, yet he is not immortal. And his this is expressed through his music, which says the world that "I am still here, alive."

  • @supersmashermeta Very well put, but I was actually referring to Horowitz. As an apparent follower of Chopin you may realize this recording doesn't exactly paint a flawless picture of the virtuoso.

  • @nahedh Horowitz doesn't need us to patronize him, really. He is in and of himself a wealth of information about the expression and tradition of music. With that said, I'd take the performances of Solomon Cutner, Ronald Smith, or Szpilman any day as well. We can't afford to have silly preferences marginalized by our own little views of interpretation any more, given that our kids aren't even interested in the whole mess any more.

  • Well, Horowitz is an amazing pianist, but as korlock3000 said this performance is just AWFUL! I even doubt that this is really Horowitz. I have never heard so neurotic interpretation of this ballade.

  • @Scheludko I think its awesome.

  • So many judges popping out like mushrooms...Who are you to critisize this performance...horowitz may have made some mistakes....But if you are not able to play this piece stop critisizing and shut up...I am sure you are never gonna play like this....Stupid arrogants

  • all you guys, stop complaining if you think you can play better than this. if not then SHUT UP GET A LIFE LOL!

  • oh god... the mistakes ...

i can't listen to crap like this anymore

every single wrong chord is like a screeching cat

    zimerman's performance/execution is 10x better

  • @PureFlipMinoHD I'm sorry, but this is the last straw. Horowitz was WAY too overrated. I think some people are afraid to say it. This has to be one of the worst professional performances of this piece that I have ever heard.

  • Can we stop talking about mistakes? Reguar people wont notcie them. So lets instead enjoy the music...

    Happy New Year ;)

  • I must say, that is one of the most stimulating intros in all of music

  • Mistake at 5:00 !!

  • @mikeasteele a lot mistakes.... 5:56 6:17 etc...
