  • Im so happy you are here. I am very new at this and whenever i am reading a pattern and get a lil stuck i can always come here and refer to you .. THANK YOU for being here and taking the time to make all these videos. Youre an awesome person.

  • I don't usually do front loop only or back loop only, so this may be a stupid question. Is the front loop the one that is always toward you, or does it mean the front of the project? Thanks for the help~

  • @Violetbookworm08 If you have a one sided project, the front loop will be the one facing you. If you are turning with rows, it could be possible that you would be working in the back loop to maintain some sort of design aspect. The author of the pattern should give you specific instructions. When they tell you FLO or BLO, you will work the front or back loop only. If you don't like how it looks, you can modify to your preference.

  • Thank you as always. What is 2sctog?

I got this pattern from my aunt and did a search ... I only see sc2tog. Are they the same or did my aunt has a typo?

  • @wonton71 2sctog is going to mean single crochet 2 together. That will be a decrease. You insert the hook in the first stitch, wrap the yarn over, pull it through, insert your hook through the next stitch, wrap the yarn over, pull it through, There are 3 loops on the hook, wrap, the yarn over and pull through all 3 loops.

  • back loop, is it the same with back ridges?

  • @65twinkle Yes, I have heard it called back ridge

  • OOOHH I've been doing it wrong all this time. I've been BLO and splittin the yarn in half for a FLO and BLO. Thanks so much for this video! ^-^

  • @luv2theworld You are welcome! :)

  • Ooooooh! I was wondering what this pattern I was working on ment by FLO and BLO.

xD Your videos have been so helpful!

  • @jazzkitteh Even though a pattern talks about FLO or BLO, you can do what works best for you, in order to make the stitches more secure. Sometimes there is no design element or purpose for FLO or BLO

  • When I turn my crochet work I take both the front and the back of the loop. I was learned so! Is there any problem?

  • @pemalodron I use both loops on the edge as well. I find that it makes the edge neater. so will not be a problem at all!

  • I want you to know that your video's are very, very easy to understand. I have MS and sometime have difficulty, but you made it easy for me. Thank you.

  • @msdottie45 I am glad that you found it easy! Thank you for your feedback!

  • thank u teresa :')

this amigurumi are using plastic eyes...

i'll try to attach them first, but if i can't make it, i'll ask u again...

    is it okay with u??

    thanks teresa :')

  • Dear Teresa...

I'm glad that u replied my comment...

I have the following instruction on a pattern:

R8-24 sc around (add eyes and mouth)

R25: (back loops only) sc in first 4, dec in next, rep around (36sc)

i need your help(if you don't mind to help me)

R8 - R24,i need to sc around and at the same time i must adding the eyes and mouth.

    how to do that?

is it after i finish crochet everything or at the same time while i'm crocheting? if at the same time while i'm crocheting, how to do that?

  • @kucharlana My thought would be that it is advising you to attach them on those rounds, prior to closing up your head or what you are making. Some people use plastic/glass eyes. Some faces have eyes and mouth stitched on separately.

  • @tjw1963 thank u teresa :')

  • i want to thank u so much...

u help me a lot in making my crochet pattern....

i know nothing about crochet until i met your videos...

    thank u once again.... :)

  • @kucharlana It is great to hear you are learning so much! I appreciate the comment!

  • Dear Teresa,

I have the following instruction on a pattern (the specific one if for a frog arm):

    Hand: With A, ch 10.

Rnd 1: Dc in 4th ch from hook (3 skipped chs do not count as dc),

dc in next 5 ch, 4 dc in last ch, working across back of chain, dc

in next 5 BACK RIDGE lps, 3 dc in last ch, pm in first dc to mark

    beg of rnd—18 dc.

Does the one in capital is the same as your video? Meaning i have to do a dc in the back loop?

Thank you vey mych and hope to hear from you soon!

  • @katerinagn Some authors will refer to the back loop as the back ridge. Most likely that is what they are talking about.

  • @tjw1963 Thank you very very much!! It worked this way :))

  • Teresa, you are my hero!!!

Without you, there is no way I could possibly finish a crochet pattern with a new type of stitch. I also love the slow motion you put towards the end. Make it waaayyy easier to figure out a stitch!!

    xoxo

  • @anarkmx Thank you! :)

  • Thank you so much Teresa, your tutorials have helped me a lot of times!!

    :)

  • @acbd199 I appreciate the comment. :)

  • People who don't crochet might watch this and think "duh, that is so obvious" but I only NOW understand what the pattern mean when they said front and back. That used to confuse the hell out of me. You saved my crochet life. lol.

  • @dillyjanjan Front Loop Only and Back Loop Only is a common term with written instructions. Written crochet instructions can be very confusing. I appreciate the comment, thank you!

  • Thank you sooooo much for all your videos. I love them. You show and explain well. Jojos from Québec, Canada! ;)

  • @Jojos18 You are welcome! :)

  • Teresa would you upload a video of complete abbreviations including this sign (*) and explaining the way you're doing in here, thanks a lot.

  • Thank You!

  • @Bellababe0009 You are welcome.

  • How do I avoid the ridge lines in single or double crochet? Thanks so much!!

  • @catlynn1964 You avoid the line by working through both loops at the top of the stitch.

  • So if I am doing just a double crochet and it is not indicated to use the front or back loop, what do I do?

Thank you for your help. Your videos are awesome!!

    Cathy

  • @catlynn1964 I recommend you go through both because it is the most secure.

  • Thanks for ur great work I LOVE UR WORK are amazing.

  • @Malakom23 Thank you.

  • is the front loop also named the top loop?

  • @iltwgf1 There are two loops at the top of each stitch. Together they can be called a loop. It is going to depend on what the pattern author is referring to with "top loop".

  • thank you so much this has really helped and i like that you slowed the video down to show what you were doing, that made it so much easier!

  • @poisonkytti Thank you.

  • Thank you for showing me how to do back and front loops. I came across them in a pattern and I had no clue as to what to do. Hopefully now I can make the kitten bag for my little girl.

  • Thank you Teresa learning from you has been a great!!! YOU have made me want to learn as much as i can...again THANK YOU!!!!!

  • You are welcome. :) I appreciate the comment.

  • Thanks! Excellent explanation. Your videos are great.

  • I am making a babydoll dress, that requires blo. (back loop only) and this really helped me. I have to rib, but it's not coming out like i want, but i don't care! I am just going to keep going!

  • THANK YOU SOO SOO MUCH =)

  • You are welcome.

  • Thank you!!!!

  • I thought it was SO MUCH MORE complicated than that. LOL

So if the pattern doesn't say do you usually do the front loop?

  • Even if the pattern tells you which loop, you do not always have to go by the pattern. Some patterns are just repeating how that person was taught to crochet and some crochet strictly in the back loop only. I found out early on that I like to go through both loops as it seems to make the piece look neater and more secure. The choice is up to you which loop you join your stitch in.

  • I've made so many things (scarf, purse, hats) and am just now learning about using the back and front (still confused on what it means to chain then work on the wrong side... what the heck does that mean?). For the longest time I've used both front and back loops, it does make things turn out more neat and secure. I'll most likely continue to do so for most projects unless I think it will look better other wise. Thanks bunches for the slow motion; leaves no room for confusion.

  • I think what that is related to is chain and then turn, where you work back down the row. It sounds like different wording to me. When you chain you are working on the wrong side of the stitches you have just made. That is confusing wording when worded that way.

  • ooohhh, a sock would be soo cool!

  • aDD ME AS FREIND!!

  • Thankyou so much tjw!!!! Can you prob. do a video about just crocheting a REGULAR sock for me?

Just a nice cool regular sock. PLease

BTW love the video. Keep going

  • You are welcome. :)

  • You do an INCREDIBLE job btw.

I do agree here with the princess. Would you please do create a video about crocheting a sock. There it is.

I CHALLENGE YOU TERESEA TJW1963 TO crochet A SOCK. please do so, it would be very kind of you to do.

Oh yeah Btw I sent you an email. love the vids. bye!

  • Thank you, I appreciate the comment.

  • You ROCK!!! Thank you....pattern said BLO (Back loop only) .....now I know what to do. Thanx. :D

  • You are welcome. :)

  • I started watching your videos and saw the sc one where you went through both loops. When I was learning how to crochet, I was taught to go through the front loop only, so when I saw yours I thought I had been doing something wrong all these years. I guess it's just preference and what the pattern says. WHEW!!!! Thank you so much for these videos! I can't wait to watch them all and learn more!

  • There is a lot of personal preference that comes along with crochet.

  • Thank you for teaching me how to chrochet. I love your videos, they make this whole crochet-thing so much easier to understand! :o)

    Many greetings from Germany @-'-,----

  • You are welcome. How is the weather over in Germany right now? I remember this time of year being beautiful.

  • Thanks for clearing this up. You are awesome, I love all your videos, they are SO helpful :)

  • You are welcome. :)

  • Oh thanks so much. I can't believe it is that easy! I have spent so long trying and failing this stitch. I can now do all those patterns that were off limits because of my inability to do these stitches! Thanks again I appreciate it so much.

    Kindest regards

    Sharon

  • You are welcome. Sometimes it is difficult to relay how a stitch is done through written instructions. I am trying to take the mystery out of crocheting. When I was learning, all I had was written instructions. I kept reading and practicing, reading and practicing until I got it. Written instructions can be very challenging but once you learn the crochet language it is well worth it.

  • Okay...wonderful. Looking forward to you posting the tutorial for that.

    Thanks.

  • Teresa, you are amazing!!! Your videos are so clear and easy to follow. Do you have a pattern to crochet hats for men?

  • Thank you. Some of them can be used for men like the beanie. I do have a larger beanie pattern that I made for my husband that I plan on doing a tutorial for.

  • Thanks so much for this video! I've been trying to figure out which loops were meant in FLO & BLO. Watching you do it clears up my confusion. Although these stitches were easy enough to grasp in real time, there've been so many videos where I wished they would show it in slow motion. Thanks for that nice touch!

  • You are welcome. :)

  • My Goodness you have everything here!! Thank you!

  • This is such a great video!!! I understood every single direction you told me. I've tried to find many crochet videos and you were the only one that was slow with your directions and i love the slow motion!! Thank you so much!! ;-)

  • You are welcome. :)

  • I figured that what BLO and FLO meant, but then again, I've only been crocheting a couple of months, so I thought it couldn't be that easy. Thanks so much for your help.

  • You are welcome.

  • i can crochet and im only 11

  • I love to crochet. I love your videos. I am not sure how to blend two colors. Like if I were done with one and wanted to start a new color. Can you do a video on how to do that? I tie knots and I hate doing that! Thanks!

  • ooo can you demo the square at 1:20? please?

  • I could come up with a tutorial.

  • yay!!! :)

  • I like that square at 1:20, what is that stitch called?

  • That could possibly be the Spike Stitch.

  • OOPs! I am going through both loops on my star stitch blanket

  • The is only if your instructions are telling you to go through the front loop or back loop and what the instructions mean by that. I prefer going through both loops and that is what I did with the Star Stitch tutorial.

  • How do you count rows of back loop only ...i am making a childs hat.....it looks right ribbing...do i count the ridges???

  • You can count the ridge or the stitch, it is up to you. If you use the ridge as a guide, that is a good way to separate each round/row. It may be easy to count the same row twice when crocheting in the back loop only.

  • @tjw1963 I still dont get it.....do i can the ridge as 2 scs....i had to do 70 rows of back loop scs.....how do i count the 70 rows, as it is ridges....not like when you do scs normally.....thank you

  • It is counted the same way as if you when through both loops.

  • @tjw1963 thank you but when you go thru 2 loops there is no ridge, it is flat and easy to count...thanks
