if he played HALF the amount of notes he plays ,he MIGHT be ok as a jazz guitar player that I'd might want to listen to for more than a couple of tunes..
anybody that came from the Charlie Christian tradition, and blended it with modern harmony. Kurt, Mike and John are employing great harmony and chops and they do a have great sense of beat, but I rather hear Rodney Jones or Bobby Broom because they really swing and play the blues with the right juice. To me, it does'nt look like the three younger cats are even trying to mix any real bop N blues with their approach. I need to hear that funk too you know..
he is not as good. Just plays and plays, no direction. Plays mixed stuff without conducting from one to another.I think he is more concerned in extra musical things, wich i respect but not compatible with the first class musician role i wich he sells himself. First class is another thing. Not his.
I totally dig Mark!! but......he just didn't evolve like i hoped he would.Probably 'cause he had a family at a young age, i don't know.Anyone familiar with the greats will know what i'm talking about. You just hear the same old lines in his solos.Kinda like George Benson these days as a quitarist.
But Marks first album is going to be classic. He had the tone and the touch!!!......it totally sucks he's playin with chris botti.I HATE that guy but i'm going just to see Mark!
