If a barrel doesn't have porting, the effect will be neglegable. If it does: porting on a barrel adds considerably to accuracy (on good quality barrels anyway), and muffling the porting makes it quieter, but also chops off a big part of that accuracy.

A alternative to drilling out a tube is get a screen filter tube for an industrial paint pump they come in all sizes ive used them for years on air rifles and 22.lr suppressors.nothing will absorb energy faster and also have the least effect on the ball.

Lets just clear this up for you noobs, (and ATF) out there. You CANNOT use a paintball suppressor/silencer on a real firearm. If you tried the results would be catastrophic failure on an epic level. Even if you tried to modify your PB silencer to work on a firearm, the modification itself woul be so intricate that you are not really modifying anything, you're just building a new firearm silencer, which IS illegal. Just google how silencers work. Then you will see how stupid the ATF is.

You have many valid points, but you seem to be in a speedball mindset. In woodsball, the fields are usually quite large, and the players usually wear camoflauge. Therefore, a silencer would be completely pointless in speedball, but definitely useful in the woods.
