  • I'm running a formal investigation on the battery's ecological impact, this video is nothing close to being informative or helpful...

  • 22 people drive Prius

  • Google search for 'prius vs hummer argument debunked'

Remember that the original study was done by a *marketing firm*

I like how the car's multi-country parts content is criticized; all cars are produced like that these days. GM cars have Chinese, German, Japanese and American parts, for example. VW ships parts from Germany to Mexico and then ships the car to the USA. Those are just two examples, i can dig up more.

  • The problem is the Prius is made in a factory with parts sourced from component suppliers around the world, and then shipped to the customers home country. Unlike other cars that I guess just appear in the show room overnight, having been created by fairies out of pixie dust. Modern shipping is so efficient it only takes a few gallons of fuel to perform the whole Prius logistics operation, alas I've no idea how much pixie dust you need to create a Hummer

  • xuynya

  • For all the people who posted that this is merely a video against enviromentalists, remember this only applies to the prius and its nickle batteries. Most other hybrids use Lithium ion and are therefore much cleaner.

  • The major environmental burden of a vehicle comes from using it, mainly from the fuel/energy consumption. Real life cycle studies show that. One exception is vehicles used for military purposes, since most of them are made for storage in case of war. After storage most of them are recycled before ever being used. Such vehicles should not be based on advanced materials. But consumer cars that are used every day 5-15 years should be energy efficient like Prius and should be recycled after use.

  • Dear Arad

I would like to know which are the references of the studies cited at the end of the video?

are you sure that are good reference ? which are the hypothesis of the study?

  • I am not sure who Top Gear's references where, however a study done by CNW Research backs up this claim as well.

  • @digital951 The study made by CNW research was very badly made. I love Top gear, but they were wrong this time. I couldn't find even ONE research that approved what the CNW research center said. What's more, that company came out of nowhere with this research, they didn't have any sources in their research. That company suddendly irrupted in 1997 and I tried to find infos about them but.. nothing. This research is therefore absolutely not valid and should not be taken seriously.

  • @rogerestunchien They are also a marketing company, NOT a research company.

  • @rogerestunchien Top gear is wrong every time a fuel efficient or non-gasoline using car is spoken about.

They are sponsored by Shell Oil; look it up.

  • Priuses, and electric cars are all about image, so you look cool to Claliforniacunts. If you really cared a bout the environment, you'd rig a weed wacker to a bike.

  • Theres hardly any information and no credible citations. This is probably the oil companies doing the same thing they did to the EV1s. Who made this video and where is the proof?

Look man, I dont care if you dont beleive in climate change, it has to do with the air that we breath guetting more polluted and causing sicknesses. It really bugs me when people talk bad about environmentalists, they're trying to make the world better, Why not put down people who actually deserve it?

  • The Toyota Prius is an Hypocrite Car

  • Why, because it uses the same things you do!

  • fuck all of that discussion, I want the song's name! GIVE A NAME!

  • I've heard it in other videos. That's all I know. Great song.

  • The song is "Clubbed to Death" by Rob Dougan from the Matrix Movie Soundtrack.

  • Thanks, man! :)

  • The last time the Earth went through a global warming phase there was no nickel mining, no industry, no transport, hardly any humans going about. The big question for Al Gore and the rest of you global warming nuts, " What caused it the last time????" Since the Earth was created, it has cooled down and heated up on numerous occasions so why does mankind think they can stop it this time around. We do not have to save the planet, it is quite capable of doing that job on it's own.

  • the belief is not to stop natural global warming its to stop man made escalation of it which can be done.

  • i have been trying to tell a lot of people the same goddamn thing and nobody seems to pay attention. Our planet goes through changes that are microscopic and take too long for our eyes to see. Earth went through what 2 ice ages if I am not mistaken? What is wrong if we are approaching one? Sure, maybe we are speeding the process but we cant blame all that goes one with the Earth's temperature on greenhouse gases. Mr Al Gore got a Nobel for talking a load of rubbish

  • Man, stop using your brain! It's the environuts worst enemy!

  • destinygndam, .. Is that why Al Gore's movie has a disclaimers in GB discribing all of the untruths???

  • everyones to blame, the government collaborated with large coporations to cover up the global warming thing cause it will affect their income

  • The main stream media will never report on this fact, cause there too busy trying to bad mouth America.

  • It's not a fact. This bullshit will only fool americans. Why? The Prius happens to made by a non-american company. It is that easy. Just take a look on this film and for once think a little longer. Think how the other cars are manufactured and you will realize that it is exactly the same shit. The difference is that the Prius pollutes much less during its lifetime. And what about the batteries? THEY CAN BE RECYCLED!!!! Wow!!!

  • @FANTEN69 Only fool Americans? How come it's also been on the BBC then and talked about there? Cars are normally manufactured reasonably in the same space, with the same materials. The point is that the nickel is very dirty, and is sent all over the world and back again, just to make them.

No they can't be recycled either, they have to be buried in the ground. Leaking into the soil. Now that is damaging.

This is not a bash on hybrids, it's on the Prius; and it's nasty nasty power pack.

  • @Draelren Please google for nickel recycling. Nickel is for example used in when creating stainless steel which contains aroun 10% nickel. Then you can imagine the amount of nickel being used every year.. Do you want to stop the use of stainless steel too? But maybe you meant Lithium and not Nickel when you wrote the post. Lithium can be recycled to. For example into new batteries...

  • @Draelren What's funny is that nobody is posting any videos talking about how awful lead acid batteries are.

They consist mainly of Lead and various sulfuric acids. If you inhale enough smoke from one that explodes, it will basically eat through your entire respiratory tract. I've seen it happen and smelled it.. it was nasty.

This faux environmental concern only pops up when you challenge the status quo by making a car like a prius.

  • @neptronix Right! These mined materials exist in every modern convenience. Nasty-ass batteries have been used in all of our cars for the last hundred years. Lithium and nickel are used in cell phone and laptop batteries in infinitely higher quantities than in hybrid vehicles and EVs. They couldn't have created and uploaded this video without using the evil nickel and lithium.

  • @Alvord1430

    Yup..

And the thing is that those materials can be recycled. if they are used to save gasoline, that's good. You can't recycle used gasoline.

As they say in fight club... 'sometimes you gotta break a few eggs to make an omlette'.

  • Although we're off to a bad start, my comment left on your page only cited a point-of-contention (exclusive to matters entailing the 12 yr old dome maker). And secondly, excellent work on bringing notice to the impending dangers of nickel mining for hybrid battery-production. Whether you think I am (thus making you) an asshole, I am happy to put this vid on my documentary playlist, because I think your message here is important. Thank you for posting this.
