Choson's methods seems to be based on Japanese swordsmanship. Consider then that the Katana is a much longer, razor sharp, single-edged, slightly curved, sabre-like weapon. Many of it's techniques are also designed to cut through armor, whereas the stick and the machete of Kali have very different qualities and usages.

what is the point on knocking on every thing greg dose? hes really good at what he dose and his studdents are good as well and lerning more. Now theres nice tricks to learn over the yeays of traning but a sharp mind will cut through any opponent. I can tell that you who are just bashing Greg...ur minds arent that sharp practice is great but with out respect for others you will never reach ur goles you will never be good enough to ur own stacher... try humble

And if anyone is wondering, no, I'm not turning over a new leaf. However, Greg's copying of youtube videos and getting other people with tiny bits of kali exposure to make vids for him is kind of humorous. Someone with his ego can't stand to be corrected on technique - and when it comes to Filipino stick fighting, he needs it even more than his "ninjutsu'.

and one last thing, that "strike" against the angle one is in actuality a hit to the hand. I don't recall this important information being described in the video. Upon watching it again, your new guy with some kali experience does zone a bit, but it should really be deeper. Part of the problem is that Janet is not giving him a real strike to work with.

Well it looks like Greg and Janet took my advice to heart and are now holding their sticks in front of them and trying to utilize them as shields and counter weapons. Good guys. Greg, your redondo needs improvement. The elbow, while incorporated into a strike, is not the main point of your strike. Think of it like boxing. Your shoulder, torso, and hips are what give your stick its power. Janet, you and your opponent need to zone before you can snake that stick. Utilize triangle footowrk.

Since you seem to be watching paul vunak's stick fighting vids from Panther Productions and possibly even my videos on my awriterstale channel where I perform the same disarm and talk about not opening your hand when twirling the stick, keep in mind that there are several points not covered. Janet, also, don't just stop your stick so your opponent can pull of the technique. Follow through so he has to zone to do it correctly. Consider this little tidbit, "sharing for free." Needs improvement

Nice stickwork, Micahel. You've got some really good body mechanics.

As someone who used the stick and knife as a major portion of his past training, it pains me to watch Greg and his students move with it - especially his "sumbrada" drills at the end (don't even want to use that word to describe what he's doing).

He doesn't understand counter for counter principles or the principle of using your stick as both a shield and an offensive weapon at the same time.

To Greg's students:

Please keep your stick in front of you. You can switch between open and closed positions during your training, but please do not "sacrifice" your hand for whatever reason Greg said. That will get your hand broken and provide ample time for an opponent to use your disability to move in and take you out. Keep the stick tight to you and keep it in front. "Wrist exercises" can be used to strike from unexpected angles and can fake out and confuse an opponent if done right.

I've always thought that Greg had some decent kicks when he was promoting a more TKD/HKD curriculum. Instead of all this ninja/kali/wing chun/survivalist stuff that he's pretending to do to compete with everyone, if he just personalized and re-invented his own style using the skills he actually has it could even be a good thing. I wouldn't say boo if he wanted to teach that for "free."
