Sadly, Steve Strange is the product an 80's drug induced nightmare. Look at him. Lip sync without a doubt. He can't string two words together without slurring, if you see him interviewed. Sadly, as I'm a massive Visage fan.
I see from the comments you're the guitarist, great performance is all I can say! do you know where I can get a studio edition of this updated version of Fade to Grey? sounds great :-)
I'm more than sure the French female voice is the original, form the album version. And I'm also more than sure it's not that sparkling lady on the stage - she's younger than the song itself :)
But Visage - the music - is eternal and timeless. We all know that.
@mekosilvar nah we were actually playing. This recording is overdubbed with a studio version though, so it's hard to hear the live parts. Nobody was faking though. Faking's boring live!
mm the guitarist on the left side is to handsome.....and nice to look at.... great song still....shame he put some make up on like he did in the 80s xxx
What a shame that all of Billie's ARP synth sounds were pre-programned. At least TRY to emulate them! And enough of the sexual orientation crap. Does it really matter? Pathetic!
I was at this show. It was in Leipzig at the WGT aboout 3 years ago....let me tell you...this is dubbed!!! That show was all about the "new sound" meaning Rock not synth. It was horrible.
...show a year or two later in a smaller venue of that festival with only him singing and playing acoustic guitar and he did a near-perfect version of Fade to Grey that night.
...didn't hit a single note in tune you could tell from his speaking that he was clearly drunk or drugged or both. This show had a "midnight special" slot in the biggest venue of the festival, so they were one of the headliners, but the crowded arena turned half empty after a couple of songs and there were even some boos, which is very rare for this festival even for mediocre performances. The Human League btw headlined the next day and did a perfect show as did Midge Ure who was doing a solo...
Yeah, though we all know Visage was the brainchild of Midge Ure. Ioved Visage as a kid, and Steve certainly was that-Visage,-The Face, the rest of the band were Ultravox as Steve couldn't sing live for toffee. But we still love him.
I was in attendance that night and this audio is definitely not what could be heard over the PA. This here is definitely a studio version in synch with the video. During the concert you could hear that it was live (probably + some backing tracks but, well, that's what everybody does). Steve, however, was singing awfully, so I can see why the original audio isn't published here. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of this music, so I was pumped to see them, but it was in fact a big letdown. Steve...
Wow, thanks! I had heard that Steve was making music again. I took a chance and bought the 1st Visage lp way back in 1980 cause i liked the cover art, and my intuition told me it was probably a decent lp... As soon as i got home and put it on i knew i was correct a thousand times over! It gets my vote for favorite hit of the 80s, 1980 was an amazing year for music, and Fade to Grey was the tops in my opinion! I still listen to this song and never get tired of it.
I think the video company have used our new studio version of the music with vocals, and mixed it low into the live recording. Steve WAS singing live that night though, I'm the guitarist. We were all playing live stuff onto a backing track of additional synth and drum parts. That night was fun! :)
You forgot Chris Payne who had a major part in the song, the original version being written betweeen Chris and Billy on Gary Numans Pleasure Principle tour in 1979

So cool to see they're still out there.
This is what started me into music in the first place.
After listening to "Fade to Grey" the rest of my life I searched for something that did the same thing to me - without much sucess---
