-CAN YOU INSTALL KDENLIVE ON WINDOWS?-IF ITS POSSIBLE ,HOW DO YOU INSTALL IT?

  • @TheAymanhawk23 I'm sorry, but it isn't. They had a live DVD you could use before, but it was outdated and they haven't created a new one yet.

  • Thanks for the awesome tutorial, i watched it once before when you first uploaded it, and now, the second time! However, this time i made something out of it: /watch?v=fqbPuh-9mOQ

  • @AnxiousNut Nice one!

  • Where is gone the Live Dvd of KdenLive?

I don't need it..but it was funny to use it when I was not on my pc..just to edit something on scratch.. :D

  • @MrShoy last I looked, it was a very outdated version of Kdenlive on the live DVD, so perhaps they took it down.

  • @thisweekinlinux sighs..ok :P

  • @alanstryder Thanks so much! If you'd like to see most of this information with no interruptions and better audio, there's a whole playlist of my "Intro to Kdenlive" series on my channel as well that I filmed a few months ago.

  • I should try this out for some time... I am using Sony Vegas now (windows/mac only).

Hopefully it has good codec support.

  • @polopolo150 It's pretty decent, at least as far as what you can import.

  • Wonderful video editor!

  • @awesomenessguess11 agreed. I'm not 100% on the new version that came out on the 13th, but I'm learning it.

  • As soon as I start the video, I cry tears of joy at seeing you as President, giving a speech.

Wait a minute... dammit. I thought you were the first president to use Linux.

  • @OniLink10 hah, nice one.

  • Nice work man! Congratulations!

  • Good presentation Jordan!

  • Hey Jordan, not sure if you knew this but did you know that with the audio key-framing affect you can create new key frames by just double clicking on the white line. Anyways thanks for sharing :)

  • @amzertech I think I had done that before, but I spaced a bit during the presentation. :P I generally don't use the "Volume" tool. Thanks so much though!

  • Have you given talks before? You handled that well :) An it didn't crash! lol

  • @librano No, I really hadn't. I had to give some trainings at work on our new website (using it, the contents, etc.), but that was just sitting in the back of the room at a computer, pointing stuff out.

I was incredibly pleased that it didn't crash. Of course I mostly avoided doing things that would make it crash. :P

  • MINT!! you bastard, all that talk about fedora and arch lol. great lecture though

  • @DarthScape yeah, I've got Arch on my desktop, but time has been so tight lately I haven't had time to reinstall Arch on the laptop.

  • Jordan this Video was very informative ,and Help full However I do have a question what about Video File sharing? Example Sneeky Linux Is using Open shot video editor and sends Linux wiz kid some video files. However Linux wiz is using Kdenlive. O.K would there be away for Linux Wiz kid to convert those Open shot videos files in order to make them work in his Kdenlive? program. I'm sure you've ran in to this situation from time to time?

  • @Freespire44 Thanks. :)

An output video will most likely work in Kdenlive, yes. The project files from OpenShot/PiTiVi most likely won't, but if you actually render the file, yes.

  • Unix and Linux are the best (: Kinda hate the bad hardware support in linux, but it's for free.. so it's okay... but I still hate it for one thing.. it killed my Windows Partition >.< and these idiots don't send a Install-DVD ...

  • @aetRene I hear that a lot. Sadly, it's not really Linux that's causing the hardware support problems, it's the hardware vendors not providing proper drivers or hardware specifications so drivers can be created.

How did it kill your Windows partition? Did you tell it to use the entire disc instead of installing side-by-side?

  • @thisweekinlinux I used the side-by-side installation but this killed the boot manager... Annoying long story.. now my high-end PC hasn't an internet connection, because linux isn't compatible with 5 totally different wifi cards and of course the preinstalled windows 7 isn't there anymore. At this time I'm using a Mac and everything is fine.

  • @aetRene well, the side-by-side install should kill the Windows boot manager, but it should be accessible through grub. When you're booting up, it should show you all the installed OSes you can choose from. If it doesn't, you can hold shift when you start up to get to the selection screen.

Out of curiosity, what sort of wireless cards do you have? It's possible we can get it working.

  • @thisweekinlinux I tried one more thing yesterday and I got a Belkin card working with ndiswrapper. It isn't so fast as my Mac, but it's okay. I think the problem is solved. Too bad that I can't use the Windows 7 license, because I havn't an installation DVD. One more reason to use a Mac instead of windows PCs. Anyways thanks for trying to help me with that =)

  • @aetRene It's been a while since I used a Belkin card, but I thought they had Broadcom chipsets in them. If they do, you could go to System -> Administration -> Hardware Drivers, and you might be able to get an actual native driver for it. The existing one isn't great, but it's bound to be a bit better than using ndiswrapper.

  • @thisweekinlinux I'll try this later. Thanks.

  • @aetRene

go to your bios, select the right HDD (the one you installed your linux distro on) -> there you go.

  • @t2thei That wasn't really the problem...

  • Not sure what is expected under "multi cam editing" but at least there is something called "split view" (right click project monitor) which should make syncing clips a lot easier by displaying the preview of 4 tracks at the same time.

    Anyways great talk!

  • @tttill Ooh, for some reason I had never tried that. Thanks for the info!

  • I was hoping some people would save their questions for the end ha ha, but you covered a lot in a short time!

  • @kittytreats I kinda figured they would wait too, but I tried to roll with the punches as best I could. :P

  • Wow, you did a really good job, Jordan! I was kind of wondering what you were going to do with no voice, but it looks like you did a wonderful job, congratulations! Oh and I was wondering, do I need to add any repositories in Linux Mint for Kdenlive before I do the apt get install kdenlive? And who is "Fish", does he have a youtube account? I think you told me before, I forgot..

  • @H4x0r18 Thanks, man!

You can start using Kdenlive without any additional repositories, but you should add the "sunab" ppa (sudo add-apt-repository ppa:sunab/ppa) to make sure you have the newest version of melt (it auto-installs).

Fish is a teacher in my LUG. Don't know if he wants to mention his account or not.

  • Is that the new LMDE (Linux Mint Debian Edition) ?

  • @FearedBliss Nope, that was Linux Mint 9. I installed it before going on vacation, and didn't have time to go to Arch before OLF

  • @thisweekinlinux hahaha yea Arch takes a while, not very long but depends what you are installing. I hope you are getting better. Did you check out the OPC-3 that I recommended? It also helps prevent and heal sickness faster.

  • @FearedBliss I looked it up, but I never got a chance to order any. I need to read up on it more.

  • @thisweekinlinux Definitely.

  • How large was the crowd?

  • @MrDanielHen I couldn't tell, I was too distracted doing the presentation, but my friend Fish said it was about 100-120.

  • @thisweekinlinux Nice 8-)

  • congratz jordan :D this is awesome!

  • @nolanhester1 thanks. :) other than getting sick and losing my voice, this was an awesome experience.

  • congratz jordan

  • @lbaquerizo Thanks man. :)

  • I am so happy right now! A tutorial on video editing with linux. Making me one step closer to say bye bye XP! :D Come to think of it, in how long have I not booted in XP? 2-3 weeks? :D

  • @juppukun if you'd like a set that flows a bit better, I've got a playlist on my channel with pretty much the same information, just cut into 5 parts. "An Intro to Kdenlive"

  • @thisweekinlinux super cool! I will definitely check this out! Thanks for the protip! :D

  • Awesome

  • @WorldOfANerd yeah, It was great having familiar faces in the audience, but more wouldn't have hurt. :P

  • Had no idea you can upload a 52 minute video to YouTube.

  • @jasonodoom One of the perks of being a partner. :) You can upload just about as long as you like, but I think you have to keep the video size under 20gb apiece. This one was about 1.6gb

  • @thisweekinlinux That's awesome.

  • wow, great presentation! i learned a lot from this video, and the multi-core rendering tip really helped!

  • @heydude09876 awesome! (btw, pretty much the full content of this presentation was already available on my channel, in the "Intro to Kdenlive" playlist)

  • Good job! - though I bet having a water dispenser nearby didn't help

  • @jaraeez there was one right outside the door. did I miss something though? I know one guy asked if I needed water or something, didn't he?

  • @thisweekinlinux Na!, it's just that we heard the machine filtering every now & then which when happening was louder than you

  • I'm impressed Jordan ... great job.

Mixed media, I think he meant a jpg over a video, as we know does work.

  • @ReadWriteAccess Thanks a lot. :) Eventually I think I got that out of him, or at least demonstrated it.

  • Amazing, Kdenlive didn't even crash :P

Nice introduction, I definitely can use that, thanks!

  • @Lupinius94 Yup. I've gotten pretty good at noticing when it's going to crash, and for a limited presentation like this, I can generally keep it from crashing.

  • At last a decent intro into Kdenlive. I usually find most videos to light on detail, this one shows off the potential of Kdenlive. Thank you.

  • @Rhettus951 Thanks. this was actually a live version of my "Intro to Kdenlive" series on this channel (5 videos, without questions in the middle of them)

  • good job jordan

  • @novelldesktop thanks a lot. :)

  • tl;dw

  • @tylerchambers0 no prob.

  • Bad sound :(

    Sent From ThisWeekInLinux's Facebook Application

  • @obbeonline Sorry, small pocket camera, omnidirectional mic, large room.

  • were there many people watching, there sounds like there is a lot of background noise.

You did ok. It's always hard to do live stuff because whatever will go wrong, generally tends to go wrong live.

  • @JayKay3000 someone told me there were about 100 people watching, and there were a bunch of people in the hallway behind me who kept talking the whole time.

  • Will you be mad if i dont watch the whole thing...? lol

  • @Metal404Head yeah, you'll totally be kicked out of the kewl kids club. :P

Nah, I just had a few people ask me to post this, so I figured I'd go for it. It's a lot longer than something I'd normally watch myself.

  • Thank you soo much for spreading Linux to the world :)

I am trying to learn as much as possible about the Linux systems now, and I love your show !

  • @leder678 :) thanks a lot. That really makes me feel good.

  • well you looked a little nervous :P

does kdenlive have the clone effect like i did in my latest video ?

  • @sidhartRON I was indeed, at first.

It doesn't have a specific "clone" effect, but depending on how you lay things out and your lighting, you could composite one video over another and crop the top one. I haven't tested that though.

Cinelerra has a lot more features in terms of masking and motion tracking, but it's a bit of a bear to learn (I have no clue how to do things in it)

  • @thisweekinlinux thanx for replying so quickly .. maybe you were nervous since it was a little bit different from your regular youtube recording ... I mean speaking in front of so many people .. But just like you did in your first vid you adapted to the situation and it turned out to be good .. I am still watching the video and have reached half way wish i could have been there but too bad i live in INDIA :(

  • @sidhartRON Ah yes, that would have been quite a long flight. It would have been nice if they could have done live streaming, but the wireless they provided for presenters was REALLY slow.

I'm not sure if I'll be doing any more presentations like this, but I think with some practice I'd get a lot more comfortable.

  • I use Kdenlive but right now I just don't think this is up to par to the Windows apps.

Kdenlive for me, works great in previous versions of Ubuntu only, such as the ability to import ogv files with no problem-no transcoding necessary. I don't know what happened lately, more unstable and rendering takes 4 times as long with the new OS's. Nice presentation, take care of your voice.

  • @tostoday Well, I think a part of that is personal preference. I had to try out Adobe Premiere and Sony Vegas for work, and they both just felt clunky and slow to me, and a bit more difficult to get going. That said, to each his own. :)

I'll admit, I'm not a fan of the .ogv not working out of the box with it, and I think that has to do with newer versions of libtheora, because it's not just Ubuntu that has issues, if I remember correctly.

Thanks a lot. I'm definitely resting now. :)

  • @thisweekinlinux Haven't tried Adobe or Sony but I believe you about the slow and clunky part. Um...yeah, using .ogv works great in Karmic versions of Ub and Mint, so that's what I use now. It's little things like this that rattles a Windows user like myself..I have high expectations for Windows and I expect no less in Linux :).

  • @tostoday I still don't quite understand why recordmydesktop doesn't have the option to export to other formats... that would take care of most of the issue.

  • It's great to see you spreading the Linux word. Just out of respect for you I will watch the whole hour. I could do with learning some video editing software too so two birds and all that.

    Hope the laryngitis clears up.

  • @naMdoM thanks. :) For the most part, this is the same content that I've got in my 5-part "Intro to Kdenlive" series already on this channel, just all in one place, with questions from the audience throughout.

  • Comment removed

  • omg, one hour, is going to be a long watch

  • @Rundfunk90 Yeah, I don't expect a lot of people to watch this one, but I promised that I'd upload it, so here it is. :)
