I have a question, while on a vid of the imps, if you watch the cutscene when the kids think Jinnifer took Joshua The Bear, all the kids go under and behind the tables telling her that she gets her own red crayon. A moment later, imps come out the EXACT spots where the kids hid at and they're saying the same EXACT things except in a creepier tone. Isn't that weird at all???

I looked into it and found that they are saying: "Lots of red crayons, just for you." The red crayon part must have to do with the fact of the club being called the Red Crayon Aristocrat Club. But, it might have to do with something else. Oh well. I will just have to keep looking for something linking to this.

I didn't figure it out myself. Back in the time before I started my Rule of Rose Mysteries blog, somebody on a Rule of Rose forum pointed it out and provided forward and backward sound files as evidence. I don't recall who that person was, unfortunately, to give the credit for the discovery.

To be honest, I had always ignored the sounds they made as I scampered past them to get through the hallways...well, that was until she was promoted, and they were saying it over and over. Then I noticed that (even backwards) it was easy to understand that they were saying 'A bright red crayon just for you'.

Anyway, this is really interesting, because I was wondering what exactly it was that they were saying, and now I know. Sometimes it sounds like theyre saying "A red red crayon just for you" but most times I hear "A bright red crayon, just for you".

Oh, and because I've always heard that music as the same tune as when the orphans were saying "Wednesday's Pea refused to flee" I find the music sounds the same backwards.

Perhaps the imps are a symbol of Jennifer's subconscious. The fact that the imps phrase is reversed is hinting that she is going backwards into her memories.

Perhaps it relates to the game's homage to "Through the Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There". In mirrors, images are sort of reversed.  Here it is the sound.

I think the significance may be that it's another hint that the imps are the other orphans. If memory serves, the phrase isn't always backwards...every now and then (though very rarely), you'll hear 'A bright red crayon, just for you' and 'Lots and lots and lots for you' slipped in among the otherwise backwards speech.

The reverse might've been to prevent the redundancy you mentioned, as well as to make it more creepy.

Actualy, I think the only scene where they say it rightward is in the scene where Jennefer actualy gets her red crayons (well... get stuffed with them...) I felt their gibbering being put rightward might have been Jennifer's realisation the imps, which cause her great pain, and can even "kill" her, are in facts the orphans, and that she is bullyed by those imps... to get her red crayon...

That's possible. I was watching a commentary on an episode of The Simpsons ("Lisa The Vegetarian") and they had a Beatles song during the credits (can't remember which, I'll get back to you on that) which when reversed is a recipe for lentil soup, I believe. I may go watch it again.

I think that you are right about the "white noise" of the reversed speech being less annoying than hearing an intelligible phrase like "a bright red crayon just for you" repeated ad nauseum (even with occasional additions of "lots and lots and lots for you" and "hats of to you"---not heard in my video, but I've written about it, with regard to the imps before the Hoffman boss-battle, on my blog in the past; also see the "Reversed Imps" YT video of DropHydroSkirmish).

I wasn't the discoverer of this. Before my blog-site ever came into existence, somebody had posted about this on the GameSpot/GameFAQs Rule of Rose forum and provided a reversed sound-file for download as proof. I regret that I do not recall who that was, and so am not able to give that person the credit they deserve for pointing it out there.

i love your RoR blog and i recently bought the game to play it finally rather then just watching videos on youtube :D

it wasn´t that easy for me to get it because i live in germany and the game was never sold here because people thought it was too violent and...suggestive in some ways(?)
