uum I always thought it was by the BeeGees. maybe the BeeGees wrote it and Yvonne Elliman sang it. coz as far as I know BeeGees written loads of music that became hits with other people such as Diane Warwick, Kenny rogers, Diana Ross, Destiny's Child, etc

Yeah, the Bee Gees wrote and recorded this song in 1977 for the Saturday Night Fever album. I always liked their version better than Yvonne's. And this version by Kim Wilde isn't too bad but it lacks the emotion and energy of the Bee Gees version.... in my opinion, that is :)
