Oh wow I actually love this because it shows the true intensity and emotions in his playing and you can hear that in his music. It's never boring and he gives all he has all the time!
The brilliant Mr. E did make a few frustrating mistakes which he recovered from without losing the song's integrity. His mistakes would be an honor for me to make!!! Hey, all musicians have "one of those days" performance-wise, and a lot more often than Tommy Emmanuel does! If that's a train wreck to him, it's barely a pin-drop to us mortal guitarists.
Although you could hear him exclaim "...aaah, c'mon.." during the filming, acknowledging his less than perfect take, the minutely misfretted notes are just character adding occurences of live performing. Tommy Emmanuel is a musician Blessed by the Greatest Power of all, hence he's extraordinarily equipped to touch the heart and soul of the listener. God Bless him.
tommy is enjoying the hell out of performing this fantastic composition for his audience. (this next bit is sarcasm) i bet he was totally IRATE when he played that single unclean note @ 1:26.
hm sounds a little far fetched to me. Lets not call it a mistake, there was a tone at 1:26 that wasn't very clean, yeah. And he got angry, that's also correct, but that was before when he really messed up a bit. He still seemed to improvise that 1:28-1:32 part.
I don't think anyone is really complaining that he missed a note. It's more that it's so surprising to see it happen and even more surprising to see him get so obviously furstrated with himself.
This is actually one of his best songs imho...I also wish he would play this and one of his oldies, 'Daybreak' more often. Actually, I don't think I've seen him play Daybreak for many years. :-(
He makes a new one look like that in about 3 years. He usually plays over 300 shows a years and many shows he uses the brush which wears the top thin in a hurry. So I don't know the answer to your question but he may have gone through 2 or 3 guitars since this video.
no that's an acoustic electric(the pickups are inside the guitar) that black thing in the whole is just to reduce the echoing inside, cause a lot of times when you plug an acoustic in an amp and barely play a note, the amp will fuck up bad and give off a reverberating sound that makes your head wanna explode
@willymopanya123 lol....i just wish i spelled HOLE right....i don't see how i made such an idiotic mistake! you should listen to ANY candy rat guitarist....they only sign guitarists that are true virtuoso's...my 2 favorites are don ross and steffen schackinger!
@xxxslayerxxx666 Oh hell ya man! Personally, I am a huge Antoine Dufour and Tommy Gauthier fan. They are all brillant and give me so much inspiration. Don Ross is a piiimp tho, what a player.
@willymopanya123 yeah, he's good....i just don't care much for the tapping and slapping style (i know it's way harder than actually playing, i just prefer the natural tone of strumming and picking notes) but they have balls to play like that live cause it's VERY hard to get good tone(especially when it's fast, even the great like chet atkins mess up the tone) so he has amazing tone for that style... the worst (in tone) yet most famous slap styled guitarist is trace bundy.
I wish he'd play this song more often - its beautiful and I think, one of his finest pieces. (If he does play this more than I think he does, youtube them please, please, please)
I am glad we have so many music critics here quick to point out that Tommy is a human being and makes mistakes like the rest of us. Thanks for pointing out his "flubs" - I never would have noticed without your perfectly tuned ears and guitar virtuosity.
I would give away everything I own to be able to play just this one song as well as he did - "flubbed notes" and all!
He who plays eternally perfect, cast the first stone. Otherwise, be quiet and enjoy a musical genius at work.
Thank you, for putting things into perspective. I myself listen for the passion and beauty in Tommy's music and playing. Everyone makes a clam from time to time, part of being human. I would never have noticed anything unless it was pointed out. Looking for flaws is not what music is about. Tommy is a true genius and one of the nicest down to earth people you could ever meet.
I only mentioned it because he plays so damned perfectly all the time that it's occasionally 'nice' to see him as a human being. Makes us ALL feel a bit better about our playing.
@apcwzrd i wouldnt even call it flubbed id call it tweeked, it gets a unique sound and your definately right, so far i havent seen anyone with as alien of talent as tommy, i the people who dont like him or his music are the ones who cant apreciate legitimate talent and see past just the sounds you hear and notice whats put into it to make it what it is. the critics can eat shit
He definately flubbed a couple notes in there, which to most mortals is normal, but Tommy is so at one with the guitar that it rarely happens. I hate to see him get frustrated during a performance.
I started watching this song and it just hit me, this is amazing. No need for flashy percussion or tapping, just straight, soul-hitting music. Incredible.
