I created a new master page for my header. Yes, if you want the folios and header on the same page, you can apply both the header and the folio on one master page. Thanks so much for watching and hope this helps. Let me know if you need anything else.
when you applied the Header master, did that override the original A-folios master? how would you be able to have both the page number + header on 1 page?
@WakeUpDead1200 Thanks! Glad the tutorials helped. Let me know If you have questions or want to know any specific about InDesign. Good luck on your course work!
Great video for someone who hasn't touched InDesign before. Working with master pages can be so efficient!
I do have a question, however. You have assigned a 'Type frame' with "Header" on your master page B. Then when you apply a new chapter name 'Tips and tricks' on page 4, you used the Ctrl+Shift+click to remove the master connection. But what If later on I decide I want to change the location of the type box in the Master B page, will the location of this type box also be changed on page 4?
@Jelle00twee Yes, if you decide to change the location of the type box in Master B the location of the text box will change on page 4. Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other question.
working a porject for school and wasnt attentive in class, but after watching your video, helped out tons! explains everything i need to know =) well done!
I have a question. I added a couple of master pages to my document but each one is a different background image. (I have one main background l image with two single page fill background image.) I created another master page for just the page numbers but I can see the page numbers in the document. What am I doing wrong?
@schmitstix Your master page elements (page #/folios) are behind your backgrounds. What I suggest is create a new layer (Window>Layer>Create a new layer in the layers panel) and name it MASTER. Then, select all your master page elements/page #, copy, then cut them from the original layer and paste in place on the new layer called MASTER. Make sure your MASTER layer is the first layer (meaning on top of all layers in the layers panel. That should do the trick :)
@Serviceswebdesign - Glad you were able to find it useful! What type of web background do you have? Is there anything else in particular you would like to see tips on?
In order to change the master page elements on your document pages, you need to click on it with the type or selection tool while simultaneously holding down the shift and command key. If you're still having problems after doing this, let me know. Thanks.
I have added text frames in master pages, but when I click on my document pages (after associating it with a master) , I am not able to type anything in it. Even after clicking on it with the type tool. I had to draw a frame and type in it. Is this how it works?
Thanks. When I apply the A-folio (page numbers just like you did) onto every page in my doc... than I created B-header MP like you and applied it to few pages... since I did apply the B-header master page, the page numbers created in A-folio are not visible on those pages now... When you applied B-header to page 4, the page number previously created were gone too. Will they get printed anyway, although I can't see them? How to make the elements from A, B etc. MP visible on my pages? thanks
@sebastiansz Hi-thanks for the post. If you can't see your folios in the file.. they will not print.
The page numbers (folios) are not showing up because they were not assigned to the B master. I would suggest assigning your folios to your B master the same way you assigned them to the A master or just place your header on the A master page. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions :)
Hi - thank you for your post. Actually we do use both the left and right side. Whenever you have a book or other multiple-page document, it's always best to set up the left and right side pages. In this particular tutorial, I was merely showing you how to set up your headers or chapter settings. Hope this helps clarify your question!

Thank you! I'm so glad stuff like this is on Youtube. I'd get nowhere in my design classes without it.

The page numbers (folios) are not showing up because they were not assigned to the B master. I would suggest assigning your folios to your B master the same way you assigned them to the A master or just place your header on the A master page. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions :)

Good tutorial. What's the right hand side of the master pages for? I notice you only used the left side.
