  • the lyrics reminds me just one person............. simon

  • This right here is the more intimate version of the song, when that fella and the that lady he's with are looking forward to doing a little more than just juking to this (although that could help to set things off, ya feel me?). I think that it's cool that she made two videos for this song, each with it's own different kinda vibe to it. I think that was smart of her:)

  • I love this music video it screams late 80s/early 90s?

  • @davroun Me Too!

  • Love Paula Abdul..the Laker Girl forever.

  • Funny how all the urban malls built in the 80's barely look any different now except for a few logo changes. Same old drug dealing at these places too.

  • I COULD LOVE HER....

  • Paula hit #3 in Billboard, 12-2-89. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx! Have a great weekend! Shalom, Paula!

  • 0:39 That computer is the origin of the interwebs...

  • @tengutenga Its is probably a 486 chip like I learned CAD on it college. Cell phones now have 2x-3 times the power. Did you notice the Rolodex? I had a seduction scene set to this music in college that was very popular.

  • @epistte It's the NeXTcube, the very type of computer used by Tim Berners Lee to create the first Web server and web pages...

  • Paula is a beautiful and talented woman, a true lady with a heart of gold...

Lots of kisses for her and all the best !...

  • A brand-new 1990 Mercedes-Benz 500SL convertible from 2:26 to 2:33 during the guitar riff???? Those weren't even out until November 1989, this must have been some form of advertising by Mercedes-Benz HQ. Explains all the brand-name stuff in this version.

  • This was so cool when I was 12 and it was the 80s.

I had never seen cinematography like this before.

  • AMAZING PRODUCTION!!!

  • Yeah, it ain't any of those expensive things her sugar daddy has. LOL.

  • I miss that version of Paula....I use to jam my ass off to that whole album 24/7

  • I had a cassette single of this song and wore it out!

  • One of my favorite songs!

  • I´m only a 3 year old baby and I like girls, like her.

  • Just a fantastic lady, who lust gets more beautiful, as the days goes by. I love and miss those times when I was growing up, and Paula was where she belonged. "on top of the music world"

  • "your 90-foot yacht"... are we overcompensating, perhaps...?

  • I noticed as a kid that every song in this era (80s-early 90s) had a guitar riff in the middle of the song.

  • That computer is an antique!

  • That woman till this day just makes me weak! Teen idol crush! My goodness!

  • she is so sweet and sexly- paula call me on the phone please

  • Had the tape! Fifth grade baby! I just gave my age away. LOL

  • @tvfanatic14

I was 5 when this song came out.

  • @davroun - yeah, me too... this was B.I... before internet...

  • Just felt like listening to this song... Just to bring back some memories.. ~ Always ~

  • @davroun true you old

  • Let's review - Paula isn't into her boyfriend's: expensive clothes, spending habits, house on the hill, the plane that he flys, the limos, 90ft yacht, the money, the diamond rings, friends at the top, fortune & fame, the parties, the trips to Brazil, Rome, the Riviera, Bahamas, and Monaco, etc. I'm sure you like to think it's not all those things Paula, but everybody knows (even the boyfriend) that it certainly makes things way, WAY easier to believe that it's the way that he loves you!

  • @61Slughi

Well, she's basically saying that she just cares for the way he nails her... isn't that what this song's really about? So she's not really a golddigger, she's a nympho.

  • Paula is so gorgeous, even over 20 years later

  • Now this is the song i remember...from the cassette back in junior high

  • That guy is HOT!!! I dont knw what he looks like now, probaly stil hot.

  • @JOSJOS1972 that guy is cute

  • I liked the original video for this song much better.

  • WTF SHE LOOKS LIKE MJ

  • @davroun yes, I feel your pain!:)>

  • What a look at 3:50! The best she's ever looked.

  • Paula proved that you can be sexy in videos without being slutty. Fabulous!

  • Me too :)

  • great

  • What a difference in lyrics compared to today's new videos. It's like, the complete opposite. Kinda sad how it all transofrmed into something negative.

  • My favorite Paula Abdul song

  • Happy Birthday Richard.

  • This song was playing when I first arrived at Freshman Orientation (college). I thought it was awesome.

  • Love this whole song, and the whole record. I was 10 in '89, and I remember seeing this clip on eMpTV (remember when they PLAYED MUSIC VIDEOS???) and thinking to myself "Wow...this is really cool!" Then I'd go to school and have it stuck in my noggin all damn day.

  • I love her mischevious look! sooo cute!

  • classic...

  • very sexly

  • Dam she was Gorgeous back then. Maybe she still is but it was more Obvious then.

  • I love Paula - she's sexy as hell, but the suits. Really? SUITS??? Not even back then. NO.

  • LUV THIS SONG!

Im pissed that paula wont put this and striaght up, coldhearted, oppisites attract, vibeology and a BUCH of her music videos on itunes instead she puts like the WORSE ones on itines except DLTNT

  • @ThePaulaAbdulfan Buy the CD!

  • i love this song !!

    lol

  • BEAUTIFUL !!

  • One of the most beautiful and alluring of women, and a great singer and dancer. Totally overlooked these days in terms of her true talent.

A career bursting for a revamp- hindered by the vaguaries of corporate TV and short sighted record companies.

    (ie-she still rocks)

    5*

  • WOW!!! Paula Abdul videos are really really GOOD!!! This is AWESOME!!

  • i love paula go girl

  • Smiling in reminisces SOOO hard!!!

  • Back in 1989 I was asking for Paula Abdul videos 6 months before any were released. Paula dominated 1989 big time. Thanks to her for a great 1989 !

  • OMG, I remember back in february 1988, I was in preschool and remembered when "Knocked Out" was released as a single. I was so in love with Paula. In the summer of '88, my mother bought me the "forever your girl" cassette. I was in kindergarten and could sing all ten of her songs on that album. You're right she did dominate 1989. Those were the good ole days

  • i could sit here and say everything i like about her but imma just make this plain and simple. I LOVE PAULA ABDUL <3333333

  • "geetar!" hahaha

  • LOVE this song; Love Paula, too!!! Her music brings back memories. :o)

  • Great work, Paula. Terrific! I'm a pearl gal too.

  • wow, funny how paulas music appeals to all ages, im 12 and i love her songs, especially dance like theres no tomorrow, cold hearted snake, straight up, and opposits attract

  • I have always like the 1988 version of this song because it was a killer remix for both the single and the video. The dancing was superb and every time it played...you danced. This is just the album version with an early fade. Not a bad song, but definitely a 'pop' record. It's understandable why it got a re-release a year later. I have the 3-inch CD single of the 1988 version. AWESOME. I'm still not a fan of this particular video.

  • Haha, I like how she summons the guitar.

    "Guitar!"

  • I like how he has CDs and a cordless phone--he must be really rich.

  • @druidrmb1973 For real right! That's so funny now.

  • LMAO i was thinking the same thing. But have fond memories of this song

  • Damn Paula looks hot in this video. After all these years I still don't know what she is. Puerto Rican, Black, Brazilian, etc. Anybody?

  • I read somewhere she has Middle Eastern descent.. I forget which country - oh yeah, Lebanon! I think..

  • Wait no! I checked, her parents were Syrian Jews.

  • It doesn't matter what her race or ethnicity is she is so hot!!!!! and the beast singer and entertainer of all time. I never tire watching her videos Paula you are the greatest!!!!!

  • LOL!!

  • to think this was 20 years ago now...when you are old enough to recall her when she was on top (i was 16 20 years ago) and to see her being a judge on american idol...i dont like it..when you know what she was capable of and to see her now is a let down...NO BODY today NOBODY could dance and sing like PA, her voice was her weak point but only to a degree..beyonce could not bust out that sort of energy in her music or her dance, music now is not so high charged enegy anymore which is a shame.

  • I'm not a big fan of her videos or music, but she strikes me as someone who has it all together. I LOVE her dancing though, wish she was doing more of it now.

  • Margaret Moore wrote me "Hey, there is my song! But where are her clothes? She needs to wear more clothes unless she is at the beach! She should save the bikini tops for those trips to the Bahamas and Monaco...but it's not about the places you go!" :)

  • Martinis

  • Very nice video. I enjoy watching Paula dance as much as hearing her sing. She's a very talented artist. Some of today's artists could learn a lot from her in my opinion.

  • you need help!!!

  • The Nakamichi CD player was so cool at the intro of the video and the dancing was great!

  • Correction. I meant the Nakamichi cassette player.

  • This song and every song off of "Forever Your Girl" were the BEST! One of those cd's where every single song was just awesome!

  • Was that paula in the sex scenes part of the video.

  • Paula pratice a lot for her dances pratice made one of the greatest dancers

  • best version

  • Version 1, Pros: Great Dance, Cool Style.

Cons: Less Close Up Image, Color and Contrast not high.

Version 2, Pros: Good Close Up Image, Full Color and Contrast.

    Cons: Very Less Dance.

  • I disagree:

Version 1 was mega slick with smokey, high contrast soft lighting and an alternative, creative instrumental break (taken from the 12") in which Paula tapdances. It's as though Tony Scott had directed a dance pop video.

Version 2 is much lower in contrast and looks like an 80s tampon advert. Lots of random montage shots of products and a close up of Paula lying on a couch.

I appreciate the unfortunate compromise Fincher had to make. Boo to the record label!

  • Thanks for your reply!

  • CASIO CT-670! jajaj

  • CASIO CT-470 too :-)

  • Good song. I am glad it was a smash upon re-release. But I prefer Version I video. I don't know why they felt the need to make another video. Most people did not get to view the first video upon the tune's initial release. I think it was perfectly suited to the song. However, maybe record execs felt that Paula danced enough in her first few video hits and wanted to show the stylish, chill side of her. Who knows.

  • This video is the best version!

  • I like the song in this one better for the tune because it's more upbeat but like some other people said the dancing in the other one was better then whatever she's doiing in this video.

  • Little history/chart stats about this song......when the song was first released in late 1988, it peaked at #10 on the R&B Charts in 1988, and # 88 on the Pop Charts. When "Straight Up" was released as the third single, it blew up on both charts and then she decided to re-release "The Way That You Love Me" (with a different video) in late 1989. It was when she re-released it that the song hit #3 on the Pop Charts, so it ended up as a big smash Top 10 hit in 1989.

  • I like the first version WAY better..what's a Paula Abdul video without all the dancing? It's just wrong..but obviously most people liked it since it made it to #3 with this vid. I usually disagree with the majority anyway.. :)

  • I like this version much better.

  • I like this version better only because it matches the song perfectly. The other version is cool because of all the dancing but this one is better for the song. The gold tones make it perfect.

  • I agree, this version is better--for a year later or so, it looks so much more modern.

  • I prefer the coreographed version to this.

I like her moves, it enhances the song and video better.

  • i agree, yeh it looks dated, but i prefer the dancing in the other one

  • i had a cassete deck just like that AHH rememeber making cassete copys of cds? anyone or cassete to cassete copys. LOL maxell anyone? or memorex! LOL.

  • omg taped i had a walkman,, maxell with the guy in the chair gettin blown away by the sound lmao

  • Good vid but the sound is horrible... Brings back some good memories though... Running into to Tulsa heading for the Palladium and what not!

  • Well, a wise man once said that 'Money Cannot Buy Happyness".

    My reply:

"Well, it'll rent it for the rest of my life...."

  • ah I thank U4 this video.

It really takes me way back to the Fall of '89.

When reading GQ & The Robb Report were oh so chic....

    "It ain't the money..."
