Our work was in fact create a barrier to prevent attacks against the Green Zone Coet and control the flow of weapons of weapons and car bombs, to protect our soldiers and civilians who daily walk the streets. But the bitter truth is that the Sadr army, just go to those who do not submit to his regimen called infidels, not to be radical like them
Its funny the press didnt mention the fact that we were not allowed in that part of Sadr City. Iraqi pres said no. The Iraqi forces were supposed to do the clean up job. They cant even wipe their ass. We would have killed everyone of those assholes. So building a wall was the only way to slow down all the weapons going into that area. I loved it when we would shut it down and not let any of them in or out. They would go nuts.
@BI30 Its not ethnic cleansing really, its more like we kick in doors, and if the fuck face on the other side is a trouble maker, we take em in the street and shoot em. Ive personally talked to many iraqis, and they love that the US has brought more safety and stability. So all you anti war fucks can believe what you want, doesnt make it the truth.
@GeetarGuy505 If they are a "trouble-maker", you drag them into the street and shoot them. Everyone else tells you how grateful they are that you are there. Gee, there's a shock. Love us or get shot. I'm sure their adoration of you is quite genuine.

BI30, I suggest you read my friend Tony Farina's book "Angels in Sadr City." It's a real firsthand account of the battle for Sadr, not this censored and truth-stretched news network shit you're posting. You have no idea about the efforts of men that risked their lives to control the flow of weapons and criminals in and out of an entire city. These are men that truly believe what they do has a direct impact on the security of their home, and you sit on your ass in your own home mocking them.
If you believe this clip or my description of it are critiquing the SOLDIERS in ANY way, you are incredibly clueless.

you guys are really just blind, for real!!! being critics on things you really have no clue about... if you really want to know why that wall is there then just go there yourself you pussies... you guys are worse than the media. giving your opinions without haveing solid facts... i helped put that wall there. sure call me what you want, a baby killer, whatever i don't care... but what i do care about is how we made sadr city a city again for the people instead of being a total fucking warzone.
If you truly believe simply building a wall around a particular neighborhood is a *permanent* solution to ending the violence there, then you are only fooling yourself.
@BI30 dude, for real??? YOU are the one who is fooling yourself. i was in 1st armored div. 1-6 infantry, charlie company... that was me without my weapon climbing that stupid shitty ladder. i saw more REAL current events at that time than the media can show you know, and for your info. its not a fucking nieghborhood either its a whole damn city. do your homework boy...
When did he ever say *permanent.* Also, from his response it sounds like he's had first hand experience in Iraq instead of getting his info from news media, who can twist any fact the way they like.
If you don't solve the underlying problem, then the "solution" they found becomes "permanent" by definition.
One does not need "first hand experience" to know simply building a wall around an entire city rather than solve the underlying problem is not a long-term solution to anything.
Why is MSNBC passively accepting the assumption that this wall is a good thing? They say its to box in Shia insurgents, but in reality, its on par with the Israeli constructed apartheid wall. No one will be able to get in or out, wounded civilians are total sitting ducks.
Come to think of it, this is pure insanity, something we will look back on in the future and think - that was a lot like the Warsaw Ghetto. Did those insurgents have a legitimate grievance at all?
The funny part is that everyone forgets the fighting that D 4-64AR did there. We covered the entire 3km length of RTE Gold with barriers, and lost two tanks during it all. We were based out of JSS Sadr City and did alot of fighting. That IRAM attack video that's all over this site was when we were there. I'll never forget any of it.
@taxicabmessiah25 were you there for the dac center bombing at jss sadr??? when that maj. died... man my sqad was first on the seen. neverforget that day either. crazy shit
I dont know who took over the wall, but as far as initial emplacement on Rt Gold, the 821st WVARNG was the Engineers slinging the barriers. It started 04/08. I was there every day until 06/08 when we turned it over and left COP War Eagle.
stop being a bitch, every person who signed up for combat knew what the risks were, they sacrificed themselves keeping the fight in the middle east rather than in the states. so hold your head up high and thank god there hasn't been another terrorist attack on the states.

B130 doesnt know shit...He wasnt there and cant tell you that phase line gold smelled like shit and never walked through the shit water in the Jamila market...We went in and fucked the Mehdi militia up, built the wall, now there is hardly any violence...Those of us that were there know this, everyone else can go fuck themselves that thinks otherwise...
The "Check Engine" light is on in my car. According to you, if I simply unplug it so it stops bugging me, it's "fixed". No, sorry, that wall won't last forever.
Yeah it got to be a zoo the last few weeks. There were a lot of units out there and everyone did a great job on a successful mission. 1-68 escorted me with tanks and brads on many occasions. We were very lucky to not have lost anyone.
Hmm...no mention of 64th BSB who actually picked up the majority of the barriers and enplaced them and ran the barrier yard. They also had 2 Soldiers shot in the head with armor piercing .50 cal sniper rounds but survived! Now that is a story.
C Company 1-68 placed the majority of the barriers. I know, i was there. I was C Company;s Senior Line Medic for 3 and a half years and was there, for 12-18 hour shifts placing barriers. Yes 64th BSB helped, but they were not there physically fighting every inch of the way. Team Steel. "STRIKE HARD!"
I led quite a few missions there as a PL. I built Thawra II and did all the initial blocking on Gold. We got attacked every single time. 64th did 24 hr work on Gold for 3 weeks. I would say they played a major role. 1-68 and 1-6 did a lot of security detail. They didn't actually place many barriers but were there providing overwatch.
I get that , Sir. I'm telling you from experience, i was there. CPT AJ Boyes was my XO. Every day i was right there with him, i am in this video. we placed every barrier when we werre down there the entire time. D Co. 1-68 did secrity detail providing over watch. C Company 1-68 placed barriers
The change most responsible for the drop in Sunni violence was the Al Sadr 6-month ceasefire in August 2007, four months after The Surge began (check the death tolls if you don't believe me.) In February when the ceasefire ended, U.S. casualties shot back up. We convinced him to renew the ceasefire by putting Sunni's (many of them alQaeda) on the U.S. payroll.
Yeah the Marines pushed through Fallujah...with help from like, 6 Army battalions, including artillery support and special forces. Jarheads are fucking dumb.
Sadir lost....Sadir was a very Beautiful place;).....They Islamofascists got hammered. They lost and had no choice but to beg for a cease fire.....Iraq and US have won in Iraq. The Terrorists and the liberal media have been defeated....
U.S. Military fucking crushed the insurgency, the Left-Wing Shitbirds and the so-called, "Mujahadeen" have failed and failed miserably. All the Fuckers who say otherwise have probably never even been there, their views on the "U.S. Failure in Iraq" does'nt amout to shit. Sgt. Kyle A. Banks, 5th Battalion, 20th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, Served in Al-Doura, September '07-January '09. Its good to be back from kicking your asses.
B130 I wish i could tell you why they were getting mortared...however i know that i didnt enjoy it very much...i also didnt enjoy getting shot at when we were trying to restore the power in Sadr City either so we arent all bad my friend...
The failure of the Bush Administration to devise any reasonable exit strategy that would of had troops out of Iraq and Afghanistan LONG before neighborhoods erupted into violence, has meant YEARS of occupation and years or growing anger and resentment that grew SO out of control, alas, the only thing they could do was build a wall around an entire neighborhood like a cage.
THAT is what makes the wall "A monument to failure".
You can say what you want...but it is what it is, and i know that you cant make a case that is justifiable for us to get shot at in order to restore power for people, WHO kill each other in sectarian violence to try and piece together a country that they rip apart without our help...I will also say that the whole city isnt walled off either thats bullshit in fact the people can cross through the wall as they please at checkpoints...
i was out there during that shit they built the wall only so that the iz wouldnt be in range of mortars...but clearly not many of you have been there or been mortared before so you wouldnt really understand...
As a german, this reminds me of the Berlin Wall. Why didn't even the USA, who lobbied against such walls the past 50 years, learn from East Germanys mistakes?
bringing peace and democracy to iraq is this?looks like you are building concentration camps, what next mortar rounds of zyclon b to be fired in? what a a waste of taxpayers money and a true sign that america is only there for the oil
For one there smart guy, if you dont know what the fuck your talking about then shut your fucking mouth. I lost 3 freinds in sadr city when we went in and kicked ass. Not lost. Kicked ass. When you have your home hit with 8 rockets by some iraqi insurgents and survive then you can open your mouth.
I want to thank your son, Im in 1/2 Styker Regiment. We were the first ones in Sadr City and we took the most of the blast. I was hit three time with EFP's while in Sadr City and was hit with 8 rockets while I was inside trying to get a break from action and calling my wife. We lost good men in Sadr City and all I ever hear is how we didnt accomplish anything from the news and from people in the states. Its different when your there and your getting hit daily. Tell your son Thank you. Sgt Kruse
This video accurately depicts what life is like in metro baghdad...I went from never firing my weapon in the first few months to unloading a full combat load at least once a week. Very intense
actually, they're trying to protect the shia population believe it or not. the thoughts behind it are that building a wall around it will help to control the flow of car bombs into the area sunnis are responsible for that often hit the schools.obviously the mahdi militia think it's an attempt at boxing them in.also, it would help control the flow of weapons to the area that are used to attack our soldiers, to an extent.i know i joked about it when i was there, just never expected to see it done.
it's obvious that you have no idea what you're talking about i spent a very long time in that area and just getting out of there will not help anything it's a very complex situation the good are held down by the bad if we just left it would leave the good nearly defenseless people in the hands of gennocidal maniacs there is no upside to war other than a possible resolution so tell me how there is any kind of resolution to packing up and leaving before the job is done?
If you *truly* believe simply building a 12' wall around and entire neighborhood is a long-term solution to anything, then don't be surprised when you end up sending your children and grandchildren back there in the decades to come.
Remember, before the invasion, there was none of this violence. Saddam was a ruthless leader and maintained peace through horrible brutality.
Try to imagine if a foreign country "liberated us" from the tyranny of George Bush and put ITS choice of political party in charge. How might you expect the American people to respond? Do you believe having that foreign country here, killing those who resist on a daily basis, make us MORE stable or LESS? Would their leaving help stability or hurt it?
yes there would be resistance from the american people. it's different there though. i've seen it first hand. the descent people who just wanna live a normal life support us. the ones who resist us are the radicals that are corrupt and their foul intent is based off their own greed. throw in a few foreign fighters from iran, syria, and turkey for both shia and sunni. where's that leave the good people if we just leave? back in the same or even worse position than before the invasion.
I honor our troops for doing a fantastic job as assigned by their bosses. But that doesn't mean the job SHOULD be done. It's not the troops we're upset at - far from it. The American troops are working heroically in a no-win situation. What we're saying is, it's time to get out and let the Iraqis figure out their own mess. Until the religious fanatics there make peace with each other, we're just spinning our wheels. It's very sad.
sadr city? its the worst place to be in iraq.. and i strongly disagree with the ppl that are against the US in doing that wall because until youve been there dont talk a bunch of b/s... and yea ive done my part in sadr city and i spent my fair share of time at that wall. i took a bullet through both legs from an iraqi sniper. so whos side are you really on?
If the Chinese invaded the U.S. to "liberate us" from George Bush, then built a wall around your neighborhood to "contain the violence", would it hold you?
B130, are you fucking stupid? Seriously? Liberate us from our elected President? Liberate us from the man that sent us into Iraq when over 90% of the US wanted to go into Iraq right after 9/11? Oh but I bet you forgot that. It's easy to forget details when you live at home with mommy, have never done any civil service, and do your body weight in drugs every week. It's the Iranians and Al Qaeda that don't want us in Iraq, not the Iraqis. But you wouldn't know that, your just an idiot.
Every once in a while, someone posts something SO ridiculous and just plain dumb that it is impossible to tell whether or not they are being facetious. This would be one of those times.
look at the poll, most iraqis don't want us in iraq. I suggest you do some research because its possible that the U.S government is behind 9/11. But what do you expect from an ignorant ameican, i bet you a 100 dollars that u think the word: ignorant means dumb and stupid which it doesn't. btw we invade iraq for oil, but u think we invaded iraq to fight terrorists i bet. there is no such thing as terrorists in iraq, what if their iraqi fighters, do you call them terrorits now? unless ur sarcastic
dude shut the fuck up,you sould like a hippie and anyways the military needs oil from iraq for it's equipment to fight in afghanistan(not an easy task btw)
@develinangel 9/11 was a setup any intelligent person or anyone with a decent amount of knowelege can tell you that and plus so If I go to a store and I say, hmm well I need a Laptop and steal it wouldnt that be considered wrong? Your basically saying that you go in and take whatever you want because you need it? Your a lot more of a moron that some americans
@kakarot1234567891234 wow you're ideas are so out of whack that you really actually truly believe something somebody TOLD you,but none of which you can prove. also the computer thing isn't a necessity, dull one. And why would the CIA run a plane into its own building and kill its own people? Did you think about that? Who are you trying to fool anyways? I bet you get off on your little spy movies too huh? I can applaud the fact you're trying to think out of the box,but stay down to earth about it
you can't encompass the entire middle east in that either. when i first got there i got frowned at and rocks thrown at me, and when i left the old men would come shake my hand and the kids would dance in the street and sing. i watched an area that hated our presence that was in total chaos, go to an area with order, some infrastructure, and a general appreciation for what we were doing there. it may have taken 15 months, but i watched it. theres a large lack of understanding on both sides.
let's have a show of hands. who has been there at that wall? (please note that my hand is in the air.) when you're there it's not about politics or how long we've been in iraq.
the reasons why don't matter. what matters is that your brothers are out there trying to feed their families in the states. also they're trying to stay alive so they can see their families. take your pinko commie bullshit to one of those insurgent videos and root for the bad guy. we soldiers don't want to hear it.
Look, before you go running your mouth about something you don't even know about, listen to someone who has actually WORKED on that wall. It is very strategic and plays a paramount role in saving coalition force member's lives. I can tell you first hand that violence has decreased tremendously due to what that wall has allowed us as to do tactically. This wall is by no means a failure. In fact, it might just be the key to taking control of one of if not the most dangerous places in Iraq.
Do you *truly* believe building a wall around an entire city is a long-term solution to anything? You say that building the wall "is saving coalition force members lives". You know what else would save their lives? *Not being in Iraq!*
As for any reduction in violence, I thought that was due to "The Surge"? Now it's "the wall". The reduction in violence was due to the cease fire declared by Sadr. When he lifted it briefly in April, violence went up. You are deluded if this is your idea success.
Is the wall itself a long term solution? No. Is it the key to a long term solution in Sadr? Yes. Like it or not, we're in Iraq. And we're going to be for some time. The decrease in violence in Iraq as a whole is due to the surge. The decrease in violence in Sadr City is due directly to the construction of this wall. Sadr's ceasefire means nothing. The insurgents don't listen anyway. And if you were in Sadr before this wall went up, which obviously you weren't (I was), you'd know the difference.
Listen, Before you say that building a wall around the most dangerous area in baghdad is our armed forces way of giving up you need to look again. While you are all sitting comfy on your couches at home they are there securing a city not in their own country trying to construct a wall while they are targeted at EVERY DAY. When is the last time you had a grenade thrown at you? Have some honor in your own country for gods sakes! Instead of degrading what those have died for RESPECT IT!
Do you TRULY believe this to be a long-term solution to anything? Of course not. It's only there to buy Bush enough time till he leaves office, and reduce violence long enough for John McCain to get elected on the misperception that "The Surge" he advocated is actually working.
Your lunatic leaders are going to make the whole world a prison. Wake up America! You don't have to choose between being a prison guard or a prisoner. There is a better way. Liberate yourselves.
ئتل forces killed or captured 50 senior members of al Qaeda this month. Of the ten senior al Qaeda leaders, five emirs, or leaders, one cell leader, and five facilitators and bomb makers have been nabbed. Al Baghdadi's true identity was discovered after interrogations with a number of al Qaeda leaders who were arrested in Haditha. Al-Arabiya identified the leader and the network broadcast his photograph. The Dubai-based network said the real name of al-Baghdadi is Hamid Dawoud al-Zawi.
I can't count on two hands the number of times I've heard the spin of american forces capturing leaders of Al-Queda. The fighting appears as intense today as it did 5 years years ago when Bush declared "Mission Accomplished"! Bush and his administration lied to the american people about the reasons for going into Iraq and they should be held tried for perjury if not treason. I'm very disappointed in our congress for impeaching Clinton over a BJ and letting the admin. slide for war profittering.
this is just so wrong...GET THE OUT OF THEIR COUNTRY FOR GODS SAKE! wtf is gunna happen to the civillians? right i forgot ...nobody gives a shit...fucking fachist pigs!

Yeah it got to be a zoo the last few weeks. There were a lot of units out there and everyone did a great job on a successful mission. 1-68 escorted me with tanks and brads on many occasions. We were very lucky to not have lost anyone.
ucfclay 2 years ago 2
Hmm...no mention of 64th BSB who actually picked up the majority of the barriers and enplaced them and ran the barrier yard. They also had 2 Soldiers shot in the head with armor piercing .50 cal sniper rounds but survived! Now that is a story.
ucfclay 2 years ago

They didn't actually place many barriers but were there providing overwatch.
ucfclay 2 years ago
I get that , Sir. I'm telling you from experience, i was there. CPT AJ Boyes was my XO. Every day i was right there with him, i am in this video. we placed every barrier when we werre down there the entire time. D Co. 1-68 did secrity detail providing over watch. C Company 1-68 placed barriers

" Think of this the next time they tell you "The Surge is working! "
Wow. Yeah violence only dropped like 80-90% after the surge. But they built a wall somewhere in Iraq! Yeah.
Fucking buffoon. Go play with your Obama dolls.
4haru5150 2 years ago
The change most responsible for the drop in Sunni violence was the Al Sadr 6-month ceasefire in August 2007, four months after The Surge began (check the death tolls if you don't believe me.) In February when the ceasefire ended, U.S. casualties shot back up. We convinced him to renew the ceasefire by putting Sunni's (many of them alQaeda) on the U.S. payroll.
Go play with your GWB Action figure.

B130 I wish i could tell you why they were getting mortared...however i know that i didnt enjoy it very much...i also didnt enjoy getting shot at when we were trying to restore the power in Sadr City either so we arent all bad my friend...
longsean2332 3 years ago
The answer is easy: "Because you're there."
BI30 3 years ago
You can say what you want...but it is what it is, and i know that you cant make a case that is justifiable for us to get shot at in order to restore power for people, WHO kill each other in sectarian violence to try and piece together a country that they rip apart without our help...I will also say that the whole city isnt walled off either thats bullshit in fact the people can cross through the wall as they please at checkpoints...
longsean2332 3 years ago
i was out there during that shit they built the wall only so that the iz wouldnt be in range of mortars...but clearly not many of you have been there or been mortared before so you wouldnt really understand...

LoserModz1942 3 years ago
The video did not say what they are going to do once it's built. Maybe they are trying to box in the dangerous section, and clear it out?
Slurrps 3 years ago
actually, they're trying to protect the shia population believe it or not. the thoughts behind it are that building a wall around it will help to control the flow of car bombs into the area sunnis are responsible for that often hit the schools.obviously the mahdi militia think it's an attempt at boxing them in.also, it would help control the flow of weapons to the area that are used to attack our soldiers, to an extent.i know i joked about it when i was there, just never expected to see it done.
pimpedoutscout 3 years ago 4
it's obvious that you have no idea what you're talking about i spent a very long time in that area and just getting out of there will not help anything it's a very complex situation the good are held down by the bad if we just left it would leave the good nearly defenseless people in the hands of gennocidal maniacs there is no upside to war other than a possible resolution so tell me how there is any kind of resolution to packing up and leaving before the job is done?
pimpedoutscout 3 years ago
If you *truly* believe simply building a 12' wall around and entire neighborhood is a long-term solution to anything, then don't be surprised when you end up sending your children and grandchildren back there in the decades to come.
BI30 3 years ago
okay so maybe theres a better alternative than building a wall around. it i'm not contesting that.
pimpedoutscout 3 years ago
Remember, before the invasion, there was none of this violence. Saddam was a ruthless leader and maintained peace through horrible brutality.
Try to imagine if a foreign country "liberated us" from the tyranny of George Bush and put ITS choice of political party in charge. How might you expect the American people to respond? Do you believe having that foreign country here, killing those who resist on a daily basis, make us MORE stable or LESS? Would their leaving help stability or hurt it?
BI30 3 years ago
yes there would be resistance from the american people. it's different there though. i've seen it first hand. the descent people who just wanna live a normal life support us. the ones who resist us are the radicals that are corrupt and their foul intent is based off their own greed. throw in a few foreign fighters from iran, syria, and turkey for both shia and sunni. where's that leave the good people if we just leave? back in the same or even worse position than before the invasion.
pimpedoutscout 3 years ago

BI30 3 years ago
B130, are you fucking stupid? Seriously? Liberate us from our elected President? Liberate us from the man that sent us into Iraq when over 90% of the US wanted to go into Iraq right after 9/11? Oh but I bet you forgot that. It's easy to forget details when you live at home with mommy, have never done any civil service, and do your body weight in drugs every week. It's the Iranians and Al Qaeda that don't want us in Iraq, not the Iraqis. But you wouldn't know that, your just an idiot.

BI30 3 years ago
you can't encompass the entire middle east in that either. when i first got there i got frowned at and rocks thrown at me, and when i left the old men would come shake my hand and the kids would dance in the street and sing. i watched an area that hated our presence that was in total chaos, go to an area with order, some infrastructure, and a general appreciation for what we were doing there. it may have taken 15 months, but i watched it. theres a large lack of understanding on both sides.

let's have a show of hands. who has been there at that wall? (please note that my hand is in the air.) when you're there it's not about politics or how long we've been in iraq.
the reasons why don't matter. what matters is that your brothers are out there trying to feed their families in the states. also they're trying to stay alive so they can see their families. take your pinko commie bullshit to one of those insurgent videos and root for the bad guy. we soldiers don't want to hear it.
dernspooge 3 years ago
Look, before you go running your mouth about something you don't even know about, listen to someone who has actually WORKED on that wall. It is very strategic and plays a paramount role in saving coalition force member's lives. I can tell you first hand that violence has decreased tremendously due to what that wall has allowed us as to do tactically. This wall is by no means a failure. In fact, it might just be the key to taking control of one of if not the most dangerous places in Iraq.
dconley08 3 years ago
Do you *truly* believe building a wall around an entire city is a long-term solution to anything? You say that building the wall "is saving coalition force members lives". You know what else would save their lives? *Not being in Iraq!*
As for any reduction in violence, I thought that was due to "The Surge"? Now it's "the wall". The reduction in violence was due to the cease fire declared by Sadr. When he lifted it briefly in April, violence went up. You are deluded if this is your idea success.
BI30 3 years ago
Is the wall itself a long term solution? No. Is it the key to a long term solution in Sadr? Yes. Like it or not, we're in Iraq. And we're going to be for some time. The decrease in violence in Iraq as a whole is due to the surge. The decrease in violence in Sadr City is due directly to the construction of this wall. Sadr's ceasefire means nothing. The insurgents don't listen anyway. And if you were in Sadr before this wall went up, which obviously you weren't (I was), you'd know the difference.
dconley08 3 years ago

GHOSTSHADOW1 3 years ago
Listen, Before you say that building a wall around the most dangerous area in baghdad is our armed forces way of giving up you need to look again. While you are all sitting comfy on your couches at home they are there securing a city not in their own country trying to construct a wall while they are targeted at EVERY DAY. When is the last time you had a grenade thrown at you? Have some honor in your own country for gods sakes! Instead of degrading what those have died for RESPECT IT!
girlrockstar3233 3 years ago 2
Do you TRULY believe this to be a long-term solution to anything? Of course not. It's only there to buy Bush enough time till he leaves office, and reduce violence long enough for John McCain to get elected on the misperception that "The Surge" he advocated is actually working.
