Yea it has been awhile, but the MTB are still, in my mind at least, one of the smoothest sounding groups I ever listened to. The first purchase I ever made on i tunes was The Marshall Tucker Band. When I get off balance I can listen to them and aaaaaaahhh well ain't life really great. Happy to be here, glad to be alive.
@OfficialToyCaldwell Really ? I thought it might've been one of your daughters. Im friends with them on Facebook. Not personal friends though , just a major fan of Toy's. He is my favorite guitar player of all time. I really wish I could've met him !
@peachmaniac I have to disagree. i taught myself how to play guitar mainly from playing along to the Fillmore East album but practically every guitar solo was overdubbed later in the studio. duane had to constantly do retakes in the studio but Toy got it right the first time.....
I have a fond memory of Toy..I lived in St. Louis and went to see him at a place called Big Kahuna..really wasn't a big place but they packed it..I was dancing to his singing and someone came down and said he'd like to meet me..I was with a guy that was turned out to be one of the biggest douche bags I ever met...Wish I would have taken the opportunity when it was there..Miss him.
Man this must be the best rock.roll song ewer, being a MTB fan sins the 70.ts and a toy fan for ever i for ever give my music future to toy caldwell yepp,
This video was a blast to make! It's filmed in The Mine Tavern in Nelsonville, OH. My husband and I owned it at the time. Ex still owns it. I was standing by the door in the front and a background dancer. Ex husband was the bartender.
hell yeah i worn toys album out and now i have it on cd son of the south great album i just turn it up real loud and my neihbours dont mind at all, cause i got texas on my mind amen .and i love this clip
why is it that only the greatest of musos are taken away from us to soon and early in life while murderers' rapist 'peadofhiles are left to enjoy life its sucks the caldwell brothers' the guys and girls from skynyrd and the rest of those southern rock legends who left us to early in life. and wonder what there music could have been if with us today we miss them all and always .amen.
Toy was one of the most soulful guitarits EVER. Saw MTB many times in their prime....remember camping out in the FLA Keys on college Spring Break jamming to the recently released Where We All Belong album around the campfire.....passing the joints! Saw them w/ Lynard Skynard a couple times and despite Rossington, Collins, etc. It was like watching ameturs play compared to Toy. Saw one of his last concerts in Alexandria, VA before he died......another guitar hero left us too soon. RIP
@FMC651 youre full of shit ive seen them all and you dont know a damn thing about what youre talking about. all of them were good.how many times you see them live in concert.ive been to 12 skynyryd and 5 tucker concerts. they play different styles moron. toy was damn good but when you cut rossington and collins down you are stepping on a lot of toes
@FMC651 there type of music was different but dont go cutting rossington and collins down, toy was good tommy was too ive met tommy in person in 73.ive also met lynyryd skynyrd, they was a both awesome but you must have never been and seen them personally or you would know.skynyrd 12 times and tucker 5 times
@sophiesage yore so full of it i seen them both too and met them it was two different styles of music but to call rossington and collins amatours you dont know a damn thing about real music
I saw The Marshall Tucker Band recently and Rick Willis does a good job with Toy's song. Toy may be gone but his music is timeless and will be with us forever.
Toy is my favorite all time guitar picker. I was in Lakeland, Fl this weekend at an outdoor hunting show. It brought back some fond memories of seeing the Tucker band thetr in around 1977 or so, They were with Charlie Daniels, Poco and... Absolutely the best concert ever!
I miss Toy like you can't believe saw them a lot in the 70's, played his tunes with honor on my radio show, and Toy one final time at the Stone Pony right before he passed - damn right they belong in the Hall of Fame - they've been in my heart forever!
My brother (Tropical Bob) and a dear freind of ours (R.R.) worked for the MTB in the 70's and early 80's. I was fortunate to meet Tommy and Toy and the boys (Moon, Blackie, Stump, Puff, Tiny, et al.) These were (and are) some of the best fellas you'll ever meet. Tommy treated me like I was his brother....MTB & CDB and the Allman Brothers personify the great South....Dixie that is!!!
Well they are in my Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.... But they should be in the real Rock & Roll Hall of Fame!!!!!!!!! Go to the web site and tell them how we feel about this. jes maybe we can get it done for THEM that are no longer wiff us. Let them know we aint forgot nuffin!!!!!! {{Tommy , Toy and George}} R.I.P 4 Ever
I live three miles from the house where Toy and Tommy grew up in Spartanburg, SC. You can really feel the presence of MTB in this town. I entirely fascinated with all of the lore of MTB in the "old days."
does anyone know where to find his music or videos to download, he was in my family, were looking for all other relatives and anyone with music photos or anything on him or Tommy
It would be nice to find this song again, so i could hear it from time to time. Grew up listening to them, and my mom actually used to go downt he street to watch them practice when they first started out. Would love to find Midnight Promises in mp3....
Frostwire (free software like Limewire) has Midnight Promises in MP3 for easy download. I am an old MTB fan and am only now discovering Toy's solo work. Thanks youtube and all who posted.
have FAITH. I know several fine musicians who are striving daily to bring it all back ;-D People will always have a need for and a love playing and experiencing real music. My humble thoughts. Language that our soul speaks
There were several good tunes on the Son of the South cd but this was the best of the bunch. I found this cd shortly before he passed. Great music and a great player missed greatly.
I stumbled across this song about a yr. ago & I love it. I've forever been a M. Tucker fan, so I'm very familiar with the work of Mr. "Chicken Pickin'" Toy Caldwell. So glad to find the video here(my 1st view)...Thanks!!!
Love this video, only thing that would make it better, a steam train and a Buick Skylark instead of the Chevelle. Thanks for making it Toy.

Sophie - completely agree with your comments, I saw Skynard open for MT
in the early 70's out here in So. Calif. Was
impressed with Skynard's (3) guitarists
but when Toy came out, another league!
