No, well the old versions from launch 2006 to january 2009, cause they sucked.
But the new one's have 4 different hardware changes that allow you to play longer, and make the console last a minimum of 8 years, (new models from february 09) and mine died in like may, i've had my new one since and it hasn't froze, glitched, crashed or had any problems, so it looks like it's fixed.
Best way is to leave them lying down, so the disc doesn't slip while playing and cause a problem.

It's likely a bad solder connection. Best fix option is probably the heat gun. I'd also suggest losing the X clamps and using Arctic Silver. Good luck.

Besides, if you get the RROD fixed, it rarely, if ever, happens again. It's just what happens to the console. Live with it and be happy your developers aren't struggling to work on Blu-Ray.

its called vertical/horizontal synchonisation... all tv's and crt principal monitors have it. It doesnt put out pictures it 'fills' the tv from top to bottom and sends out a synchroframe (black) between it. So the 'ray' can go back to original position to fill again.. this happens so fast you cant see it, but a camera does.

Yeah, they've worked out the kinks with the 360, and basically made a new "version" called the elite. It only has a few new basic features, but mainly the fact that it is the updated version of the 360.
Anyways, you guys all have to remember that no matter what system it's been, they've all had their fine share of problems at the launch of the console.

That could be possible LosBee. But if you recall, Arctic Silver 5 compound is made of a specific substance that absorbs heat. I do believe that this 90ish% of silver is going to absorb heat better than foil will. As for imperfections, I believe a more fusible substance will be better than something stiff like foil.
I seriously don't know why they would have put them on the heatsinks in the first place. (Hence them keeping them on for the first few months of the console)
For info the foil found under the heatsink is suppost to be there. It is an alternative to heatsink compound in that it absorbs the surface imperfections. No problem if you remove it but just be sure to use a decent compound in it's place. Anyway, I'm up for a bit of water cooling to one of my 360s. Anyone around here tried that yet?
Having the casing removed, and "fan shroud" off for this short period of time (20 seconds at best) is not going to harm your system. Yeah, don't play games with your shroud off, it does serve a purpose. But don't worry about harming it if you're just seeing if the system will turn on properly with it off. (Hence the shroud being back on when I cut the video to me playing gears of war)
It doesn't perform miracles, it just moves air better when the casing is on.
You left the Fan Shrowd off when testing it was not a smart move. for that entire period you were not only over heating the GPU and CPU but could have damaged them. It is advised that anyone testing a 360 in this manner Install the Fan Shrowd also.

Yes but just remember not to put your 360 any place where it will collect lots of dust. I have actually even taped a 4'' by 4'' piece of nylon over the grill acting as a filter to keep most of the dust out of my system.
I have one 360, the one fixed in the video is a friend's.
The total cost of the mod and fix of the system came out to be $14.67.
eBay a 60mm fan and grill for 6 bucks each.
Erasers for the RAM cost 2 dollars.
15 dollars for a fixed 360 that potentially could have been sent to Microsoft and fixed for $150, you do the math. Plus, it has a new sweet fan that you wouldn't have gotten from Microsoft.
No, they make RF adapters (for regular cable tv's), they use the typical 3-prong, and HD cables. No matter what tv you have, you should be able to play a 360 on it.

Yeah, they've worked out the kinks with the 360, and basically made a new "version" called the elite. It only has a few new basic features, but mainly the fact that it is the updated version of the 360.
Anyways, you guys all have to remember that no matter what system it's been, they've all had their fine share of problems at the launch of the console.
By the way gamefreak3207, the Halo 3 beta was considered a huge let-down to the highly anticipated reviewers and gamers a-like.

Was in game store, man said his Elite has broke twice - its only Elite consoles with the 65nm chip that run better, but as Microsoft wont change description on packaging - its a gamble whether you get the Elite with the chip - or without it !

Gears of War is not overrated, and it definitely did not get old fast. It still holds the current standings for having the most online players in a console game at any given moment for the three consoles out right now.

The foil under the heatsinks is made from indium, a semi-precious metal. Removing them might have been a cost-cutting measure.

That could be possible LosBee. But if you recall, Arctic Silver 5 compound is made of a specific substance that absorbs heat. I do believe that this 90ish% of silver is going to absorb heat better than foil will. As for imperfections, I believe a more fusible substance will be better than something stiff like foil.
I seriously don't know why they would have put them on the heatsinks in the first place. (Hence them keeping them on for the first few months of the console)

For info the foil found under the heatsink is suppost to be there. It is an alternative to heatsink compound in that it absorbs the surface imperfections. No problem if you remove it but just be sure to use a decent compound in it's place. Anyway, I'm up for a bit of water cooling to one of my 360s. Anyone around here tried that yet?

Having the casing removed, and "fan shroud" off for this short period of time (20 seconds at best) is not going to harm your system. Yeah, don't play games with your shroud off, it does serve a purpose. But don't worry about harming it if you're just seeing if the system will turn on properly with it off. (Hence the shroud being back on when I cut the video to me playing gears of war)
It doesn't perform miracles, it just moves air better when the casing is on.

You left the Fan Shrowd off when testing it was not a smart move. for that entire period you were not only over heating the GPU and CPU but could have damaged them. It is advised that anyone testing a 360 in this manner Install the Fan Shrowd also.

Yo josh thats real tight...i took my 360 apart this time (i sent it in to Microsoft last yr and they sent another one) then just two days ago the 3 rings came...i took it apart, did everything w/ the heatgun/blowdryer and the thermal compound...it turns on but freezes pretty much immediately when it gets to the xbox dashboard...i can't even get far enough to play a game! what can I do! thanks bro

Don't take your GPU chip off.
Some claim they've reballed the GPU back onto the board, but even if they did accomplish this, the motherboard will have warped. They are too cheap to be heated again for reballing.
DON'T take the chip off.

News article in Newsweek suggests you DO buy one next month-on. They've fixed the problem finally and are now reimbursing those who have had problems and spent money (shipping back to Microsoft) to get it fixed. They also have extended their warranty to 3 years. They're on a better track than any other console I know of as of now. If you want the best games, buy an Xbox 360. If you want crappy games, but a decent console that runs well so far, get something else.

Just because you may not have had your problems with the 360, does not mean that the 40% of polled people with dead consoles haven't either.
Plus, some people like modding systems. If purchasing useless products to add to your system floats your boat, then do it. So mind your own, and we will too.

take the intercooler out that kills your 360 twice as fast because its hooked up to the main power supply use a regular fan DONT USE THE INTER COOLER.

bongpack420 ur a retard the 360 blows out air , all the fans do is try to suck out the heat like a vacum, if the fans were blowing on to the gpu and cpu the 360 wouldn't have ring of death cause the heat is blown off the GPU and cpu.

Yes but just remember not to put your 360 any place where it will collect lots of dust. I have actually even taped a 4'' by 4'' piece of nylon over the grill acting as a filter to keep most of the dust out of my system.
Remember guys, dust = insulator.
Insulator = heat.
Heat = broken 360's

I have one 360, the one fixed in the video is a friend's.
The total cost of the mod and fix of the system came out to be $14.67.
eBay a 60mm fan and grill for 6 bucks each.
Erasers for the RAM cost 2 dollars.
15 dollars for a fixed 360 that potentially could have been sent to Microsoft and fixed for $150, you do the math. Plus, it has a new sweet fan that you wouldn't have gotten from Microsoft.

No, they make RF adapters (for regular cable tv's), they use the typical 3-prong, and HD cables. No matter what tv you have, you should be able to play a 360 on it.
