  • Do nodes really matter??

  • He said that some of the worst playing flutes have nodes... Well, that may be true in transverse flutes, but certainly not ALL flutes. Many of the most brilliant styles of flutes in the world have nodes. The Egyptian and Turkish Ney all have nodes, as they are made from river cane. The Chinese Xiao and Japanese Shakuhachi have nodes. They can be extremely powerful instruments with FAR more capabilities than a bamboo side-blown. That being said, this guy should really be more specific.

  • @skooterkid I disagree with the your point that xiao and shakuhachi are more capable instruments than side blown bamboo flutes...i personally believe that the chinese dizi and the indian bansuri are the most versatile and capable flutes...however i do feel that if a flute has nodes, it doesnt mean its a bad flute

  • Nice reply. Thanks for being polite. :)

I think the dizi is very one-dimensional. Yes, you can change up the volume, but it has just one basic sound. Tricky finger movements are about all that can make a dizi sound super versatile. That would be the player, not so much the flute.

I agree about the bansuri, though...man, what a flute!

The xiao...i may take that one back. But, the shakuhachi does have far greater versatility than a transverse. It's just the science of the thing, pal.

  • @bananaorange90 chinese dizi personaly but i do like the C around 5:30 to around 6:10

  • @bananaorange90 sorry for posting again but also Ancient Koudi and Eagle Bone Flutes are really intressting (((( thumbs up this if u think so also))))
