Neo-swing?? Inspiration from ska and rockabilly? IIt sounds 100% swing to me. The singer has a hint of ska but no rackabilly at all. If that's the sound they wanted it's beyond me. The singer turns what would be an exceptional band into a good band. They're still good, but in my opinion...the singer doesn't cut it.

@MrChrisastin The swing revival movement started with Brian Setzer and his Orchestra. Up to that point, Setzer was known for his role in The Stray cats, a rockabilly group. That said, I agree that I don't see a clear rockabilly influence in this band. Still, the voice has grown on me.

@itsnegrojones Actually, Royal Crown Revue is credited for starting the swing revival, and both Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and the Cherry Poppin' Daddies formed before the BSO, and all three released albums before the BSO did. The Stray Cats may have had an influence on neo-swing, but Setzer was rather late to the swing game.

@MrChrisastin "Neo-swing" describes basically what all the '90s swing bands played, a simplified version of '50s jump blues with a faster and heavier beat, owing more to pop than traditional jazz. Most of the major swing bands mixed swing with ska (Cherry Poppin' Daddies) or rockabilly (Brian Setzer), which is what he's referring to, but bands like BBVD tried going for a more authentic swing sound.

Erm. Love the music but the singing doesn't sound swing. It sounds to me as if they got the first singer that came along. It needs far more personality in the singing. This guy just ain't big enough. Great song though.

The only real problem with the whole swing revival was that these guys all played about 20-30bpm too fast. Need to slow it down. And why the eff do they have to wear the effin suits? More of a distraction, and it's clever for one video or something, but it seems kind of like telling the same knock-knock joke over and over and expecting the audience to bust a gut everytime. Aerosmith doesn't zoot suit up to do 'Big Ten Inch Record', and that's one of the best swing 'revivals' whatever.

I REALLY wish the whole ska/swing thing lasted longer than it did when I was in high school. This kind of music is just great to listen to. Unlike just about everything that's come out in the past five years. And certainly evrything that's been put on heavy rotation in the past 10.
