Gain doesn't destroy your tone it actually enhances your solo's by allowing you to play a little on the sloppy side but it cleans it up. 5/5

@jcs1492 the peavey wolfgang probably has the best sounding pickups. my red frankie has a dimarzio super 3 which sounds great for old VH and the white frankie sounds great with the duncan JB. The amp is where most of your tone is gonna happen but if i had to pick my fave sounding VH guitar its the red frankie and the peavey wolfgang. the evh gang was cool too but i like the peavey pups better :)

@satchbooggy thanks for the reply, I just got my Peavey HP special EX ( I could not afford the CT) today !! I have to test these stock pickups with my new amp (Peavey Vypyr Tube 120) it should be here on Wednesday. I don't know if I will want to change them but I don't think the EX model is going to have the same pickups as the Wolfgang or CT models. In case they are bottom end pickups what do you recommend for replacements ? other Peavey Wolfgang model pickups ? How about the GFS ??

Satch you are #1 I saw in a guitar center interview that EVH himself uses 10 gauge strings tuned dow the half step the way he mentioned it is he was bitching out one of the Fender techs that there was no way the guitar he was playing was strung with 10's! It was cool too he like only had the guitar in his hands for like 5 seconds before he noticed what was going on! It may have been the Fender frankenstrat demo rather than the guitar center visit as I stated in the beginning

an easy way to do it is just to place your finger barely above the fret and pick the string. and if you have a trem bar just divebomb or if its a floyd or something you can do all sorts of cool little tricks.

p.s you have to have a good amount of gain.
