  • Made by NASA.

  • f 2 is very nice but i can't imagine shooting without a zoomlens

  • Interesting how "lovely" soon turned into "bloody hell"

and "I'm afraid to drop it" soon turned into "whoops! Ah well."

  • it looks like KAI was scared to lose his job, LOL

  • lol cheesy garageband tracks

  • This shows you Kai wasn't always a douche.

  • kai you changed alot during 2 years

  • Comment removed

  • lol @ the dubbing

  • does this guy get free lens???

  • @linxmomo yes of course... they are from a big online camera store

  • How did You get my 7D... I want it back !!! ...with that lens ^_^

  • Where is Nikkor 200mm?????

  • WOW!!! one stop faster than the 70-200!!! that's amazing!!!

  • @urwholefamilydied 1/50 of a second, 1/100 of a second, I'll take the 1/100 any day, people underestimate the power of a full stop of a light

  • @Udontgetmymetal ...tru that. But as ISO functions get better and better, ISO 200 vs ISO 400? Does it really matter. I'll agree with you on shutter speed though.

  • @urwholefamilydied yeah, and if you can afford this or the 2.8, you should be able to get a camera with good high ISO. But I suppose if your already pushing past 1600 ISO then it would be nice.

  • @urwholefamilydied It's a prime, so your sarcasm is both pointless and ill-targeted. Not only is it a full stop quicker than the 70-200, its optics are tailored to work at the 200mm f/l, and has an objective element with almost twice the light-gathering power of the 70-200.

  • @Sheshader I was partly just being a dick. The extra stop is definitely nice. I'm curious though how much sharper and better at minimizing aberrations than the 70-200 is. If it's not a huge step up image quality wise then I don't really see this ever being in my camera bag. Looks like a pretty sweet lens though.

  • "just don't want to drop it"

    "also has sling mounts"

    Please use the them then!

  • Someone should tell Kai that he should buy a monopod if he wants to complain about carrying the lens. Anyone in their right mind would use a monopod to shoot with the 200mm

  • Lol at Youtube arguments taking up the whole comment page.

  • hehe old DRtv intro xD

  • ADR Audio???? lol

  • kai is a loser.

  • @MJCastellanos hahaha.... yeah.... and you?

  • @truknayr23 Im probably a loser but at least im not cocky, i have a better personality, dont complain about everything, and im not asian.

  • @MJCastellanos No, you're just a loser. If you had a better personality you wouldn't bad mouth someone over a video, you're essentially complaining about a person you don't know and being Asian has nothing to do with anything. You're not just a loser, but a shallow moron. GG LOL.

  • @MJCastellanos what???? LOL!!! you being not asian makes you better??? Holy shit.... what kind of mother do you have? hey Castellanos hijo de puto... what makes you think you are better? LOL!!! you are 12 years old probably! go suck on you daddy's titties! you racicst dickless hispanic shit!

  • @truknayr23 hahahah I love how you get angry at some internet comment. It makes me laugh. Your one of those people that get easily annoyed. Pretty ironic and makes you a hypocrite on how you say im racist when you say im a "dickless hispanic shit" hahahah. Cheers!

  • @MJCastellanos LOL! me angry? no man no... me never get angry over dickless hispanic... hulk never angry... LOL! me a hypocrite no man no.... i just say that to you coz you are indeed a dickless hispanic shit! Cheers!

  • @truknayr23 Wow, that last comment of your was truly pathetic.

  • @MJCastellanos hahah thanks man.... at least you know the meaning of the word.... try looking at the mirror... and you get to see a real pathetic loser... hey... try making your own video before bashing on an Asian guys vid... Kai is a loser you say??? hahaha.... LOL!

  • eep! almost $4000 more than a 70-200 f2.8? that's a big hike for such a small gain in aperture, if you ask me.

  • @ShuPortraits 1 full stop and a better bokeh isn't that small of a gain...

  • @Beerz76 okay, i'll give you that, but how long does it take for that extra stop of bokeh to pay for it's self? maybe i've become to practical.

  • @ShuPortraits yes. yes, you have. ;)

  • @Beerz76 okay, agreed. i have to pay for rent and such. unfortunately practicality is a part of real life. enjoy the camera reviews of the lenses you're never going to buy. i'm going to stick with what i actually use for assignments people pay me to shoot.

  • @ShuPortraits I totally agree with you on that. I wasn't telling you (or anyone else) to go out and buy it. Hell, I couldn't buy it if I sold my car, it's not worth that much money. Plus, I shoot Nikon. :)

My point wasn't that at all. No price tag here. I was just saying I WOULD prefer this lens (the Nikon one, of course), over the 70-200 2.8, if I could afford it, of course. It's a more specialized lens, but for me, the advantages it brings definitely surpass the fact that it's not a zoom lens.

  • @Beerz76 fair enough. I agree with you there. thanks for the explanation!

  • @ShuPortraits you're obviously missing the point mate. this is a prime lens... and every photographer knows that a prime lens is better than a zoom lens. cheers!

  • @truknayr23 thanks, man. i appreciate the sentiment, and i know what you're talking about. i apprenticed for 6 years under professional photographers that worked with hasselblads where a prime lens was worlds better than any zoom, but technology has changed and zoom lenses have improved. can you honestly tell me you've used the 200mm 2.0 and the 70-200mm 2.8 and the prime lens made $4000 difference? because i've got two versions of the 70-200 and they both have phenomenal image quality.

  • @ShuPortraits i have the 70-200 f4 IS USM great lens razor sharp... one of my photography classmates has the 70-200 f2.8 USM(non IS) but non of us has the 200mm f2 Prime. hahaha it is just too expensive mate.... but based on the rule of thumb... a prime lens should always have a better image quality over its zoom counterpart... and i do believe in that rule... hahaha.... if i win the lottery i might get this beast of a lens... Cheers!

  • @ShuPortraits pardon me i f sounded like i have used the 200mm f2... hahaha i never intended it to sound that way.... i was just too eager to say that primes are the ultimate lenses... but i have a 70-200 f4 IS USm... great lens... but useless on low light.... i occasionally borrow my friends lens a 70-200mm f2-8 USM... no IS. but still does the job on low light... even without the IS.... cheers!

  • would this be a good lens for Automotive photography?

  • kai's very formal here...

  • 5,700 DOLLARS :(

  • ''canon's new canon''

  • Haha " I just don't wanna drop it " you where so cute back then kai ! now you would drop it :D

  • Take a 200mm F 2.8 it weight only 700grams. It will do the job too.

  • Kick off or stick off.., what aboud Back off???

  • Exersice your right bicep whit 400mm F 2.8 from 1996 , then we can talk further.

  • The 1.8 version was even bedder.bud was too heavy and too expensive.,Is that a reason too quit this lens???

  • woahh, you can hit the hockey player's head off with that giant lens!

    LOL XD

  • if you pulled that out during a party people would look away in disgust or something clever

  • 1:37 he is holding his massive erected penis

  • Dude, look at 1:37. the first time u see that thing, it looks like you have a massive erection LOL!!!

  • look at my 200/1.8 video taken with 7d will post a new video also with more sharpness tests.

  • cant wait for the 300 and 400 2.8 ii's to come out

  • Dirty white lens lol.

  • "oh i'm gonna watch a great video by DigRev" tatta tatta tatta 0:24 *music starts* "FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU"

  • it's a fucking cannon of a lens

  • how about the 200mm f2.8 for a fraction of the cost and 0.8 difference ?

  • @MYTRB its not 0.8 difference f/2.0 is One full stop faster then 200 f/2.8 and since f/2.0 is prime hence sharper.

  • its same like 200mm telephoto and 200mm standard lens..

  • good video, not as good as your recent ones.

and what's with the 'em em'

if you don't wan't to say millimetres, just say 'mill'

    it's less annoying :D

or just say 200, we all know it's millimetres not metres.

but hey, you were just starting out back then, so no problems

  • hockey, looks more like la cross

    8Fps.

  • love it. guys pls do a video of the nikon 200mm f2!

  • is there that much of a difference from 2.8 to 2?

  • @Spaeckli Exactly one stop.

  • @TimChVisser how do you calculate that?

  • kai please review sony dslr products

  • i'm actually more focused on his SI pullovers that he's wearing hehe

  • wow! this lense...is a big lense :D

  • So u were actually shooting at 300mm f2!

  • didnt expect that accent from an asain

  • My impossible dream

  • what a chode shaped lens!

  • this lens + 1D Mk IV = FIFA world cup equipment?

  • @vehlajatt22 I say that 70-200mm f2.8 + 1D Mk IV would be better combination, and if the 200mm f2.8 is too short, then you should have 300mm f2.8. 400mm f2.8 is pretty heavy and massive.

  • @FinlandApollo nothing can quite compare to the versatility of a zoom lens

  • @vehlajatt22 True.

  • Nikons is Better!

  • Lucky of the lens that Kai MKIV do not show up lol

  • What a beeast!

  • i went to HK to Buy a 60d, This guy makes good reviews, but i gotta say, i dont like some stores in HK, they Scam people, instead of payin 10k HKD for a 60d, i paid double, damn these people.. • I have jizzed in my pants!! What a lens !! indeed

  • $5000 US.

  • Kai is well-behaved for once

  • Hi is this better than having the canon 70-200mm l lens f4 usm?

  • @TommyPh500d definitely

  • Hi there love your vids and im a beginner and wanting to get the CANON EF 70-200mm f/4.0L F4L F4 L USM zoom lens do u recommend it? its over my budget but will to increase it if u think its good what would you do?

  • It doesn't have IS? :(

  • @BlueShirt7 It does have IS.

  • that's a massive monster

  • can you do a review of the nikon 200mm f/2 vr 1 or vr 2?

  • Hahaha "If you don't mind curvature of the spine." Hahaha, Great lens by the way!

  • Off topic, but you look and sound like Dr. Pierre Chang from LOST.

    Which is badass, btw.

  • oh man you can put your filters in without screwing them at the end?

what an age we live in D:

  • is it really that heavy? hehe coz' you're hand is shaking a bit.

  • if only this lense didnt cost $6,000

  • Why do people reverse the lens hood?

  • @ItsaGNOME

OMG why not, to store it in the bag !!!

  • @ItsaGNOME so it'll fit in a bag. We had to do that frequently with the 300mm f/2.8L in order to travel with it.

  • "if you don't mind curvature of the spine..." LMFAO :P

  • wiTH - not wif. Playing wiTH products not wIF products....

  • Kai, why don't you buy a cheap lav mic and increase the sound quality?

  • I have the 200mm f2.0 IF ED VR Nikon modell of this lens, It´s allso awsome! :-)

  • How much?

  • 200 mm is to short for sports, so you need to compare 300mm without cropping

  • my nikon 200mm f/2 more sexy..and better mtf chart

  • @Thepremiumagent - cool! but... who cares?

  • i rented one, and its better than my 300mm f/2.8l is usm. i swear, using the f/2 aperture in low light, I CAN USE ISO 640!!! its a bit crazy and the is really helps

  • That's a huge lens man

  • Can you please post a video on the Nikon 200mm f/2.0 VR??

  • I would love this job lol

  • Nice video and awesome lens. It's a face-off and real hockey is played on ice.

  • @Canon60d nope ice hockey is played on ice..

  • @Canon60d field hockey originate defferently from ice hockey

  • @Canon60d and "american football" is called handball -.-

  • @Canon60d ice hockey is played on ice hockey is played on grass!

  • @Canon60d thats' ICE HOCKED, THIS IS REAL HOCKEY!!

  • Man this baby is expensive....

    Still awesome though.

  • $5,999.00, ouch

  • whats the song or sound on 4:04

  • I find this lens obscolete given current camera technology. Save your money and just use the 70-200 and put it on a 7D. Shooting at iso 2000 is extremely clean and allows fast shutter speeds. 200mm is 200mm and you won't notice the 3/4 stop difference between the two lenses.

  • Have you ever heard about DOF?

  • From 2.8-2 is one FULL STOP. THis lens is in a league all its own and is sharper at f/2 than the zoom is at wide open at 2.8

And again the 2 is one FULL STOP faster and is probably the sharpest lens Canon makes. Its the sharpest I've shot with and I've shot with a lot of Canon lenses.

  • says who? it's not a full stop. how do you figure? what constitutes a stop? each click of the dial? if that's the case, there's three or so "stops" between f2.8 and f1.8 on my 50mm.

  • If you open your aperture from 4 to 2.8 thats a full stop. From 2.8 to 2 is another full stop. From 2 to 1.4 would be another full stop. From 2.8 to 1.8 is a stop and a third.

I tried to post a link explaining f stops/aperture but I couldn't post that here. Google aperture or f stop or go to wikipedia.

  • Three clicks is typically one stop on DSLRs by default. Some DSLRs let you change it to either 1 click = 1 stop or 1 click = 1/2 a stop.

  • f/1.8 is 1/3 of a stop short of f/2.0

    from f/1.8 to f/2.8 is 1 and 1/3 stops

    from f/1.8 to f/2.5 is 1 stop

    learn2optics

  • WOW! You nothing about optics. I own both and the 200mm f2.0 is twice as fast and the sharpness, color, density blows away the 70-200. Not to mention double the shutter speed and shallow depth of field. On a 7D there is a huge difference. If you buy a 1D Mark IV, not so much. But don't think for a second that the 70-200 can create images that can compete with the 200 f2

  • is this a prime lens?

  • yes it is a prime.

  • I love my 200mm f2 IS :P

  • Good to know I wasn't the only one who thought "em em" was off-putting :D

Plus teach that guy how to hold a lens properly! He's shaking it.

  • I'm really enjoining this new kind of reviews by digitalrev, by the way, Kai you are doing a really good job, keep it up.

  • sweet lens...

  • I like the EF 200mm F1.8 L

  • And once again a very good review!

  • "Stick of"...

    Hihi!!

  • Hey, I've bought from digital rev a few times and I just wanted to say thanks for the great service and prices, the website is very impressive and the videos are a nice added feature -- It shows that you're better than your competition and interested in the products as much if not more than selling them.

  • Loved this lense.

  • CANON ONE!!!

  • Hi philbeav & zanuha

I guess with style, there is no right or wrong. Kai is a Nikon and Leica fan, so naturally he needs a bit of time before mastering Canon equipment. We have given him a Canon camera and some crash course on Canon gears. Hopefully his next Canon review will be more in depth.

I think it's worth mentioning that our vids are as informative, if not more, as before the change of style. We are giving you more information, and in a more entertaining style.

    DigitalRev

  • Please can you revert back to the old style of video reviews, Kai is more interested in his own image and making stupid wise cracks than talking about the camera equipment !

  • You are wrong. Look at the Lumiquest video. It's 2 months old, and it has barely 2 thousand views. This new video was uploaded two days ago, and it has 1,500 views.

  • Viewing figures have more to do with the product being reviewed rather than the style of review, Anyway, I am not wrong, this is my opinion and honest feedback on the change in style. If you like all the corney comments from Kai, that is your perogative !

  • great review! looking forward to seeing more reviews from Kai, specially a detailed hands on 1d mk iv review which is more than just a listing of specs.

  • cool review, its good to see it field tested.

  • how much is it exactly?

  • He's awesome :)

  • I would sell my soul for that lens... Someday I will have it.

  • Not worth a soul

  • yeah I know, I would give up my 360 though

  • good video!!! i hope all DigitalRev Videos are like this now!! :)

  • Thanks. Enjoyed watching your review. The lens is a fine lens too.

  • Adding a human in these videos has made me actually look forward to them. Before this, the videos were just bland 10-minute advertisements with no opinions or cons.

  • Two hundred em em lens - FAIL

  • or millimeter saying em em is faster and easier, try it

  • @BerettaTM If you actually say it out loud saying millimetres is about a split second slower than em em as the words flow. And since when was a video review about speed to the degree that saving a split second matters?

  • There's rumor about 100-200mm F2 :D
