This is why the concept of third film was so interesting (whether or not you like the film), because POTENTIAL SPOILERS while the mice help at one point (and, you know, while it is helpful to find your own solution, getting help from friends isn't a bad thing), the Fairy Godmother is out of action and Lady Tremaine has manipulated it so one of her own daughters was engaged to the prince and Cinderella still got the prince in the end.
