They are trying this now in Washington, DC. A power grab and money grab! Politicians desperate to fill their coffers after spending binges, and their cronies who will put minority cab drivers out of business or keep them in the working poor.
This country is supposed to be about freedom of opportunity. Abolish taxi medallions and let the consumer decide how many taxis a city needs. If a taxi driver wants to build "equity", let him do it the way other businesses do: by building up a customer base for his company or brand, NOT by preventing potential competitors from going into business for themselves.
