my favorite movie as a child and this is the theme song I remember....wish it was available to buy....I would hum this song all the time, always LOVED IT....thanks so much for posting it!
THIS is the theme song I remember from the early episodes. Living in the UP of Michigan, we got a lot of Canadian tv shows. This one was the best. Saturday afternoons it was "The Littlest Hobo", Lawrence Welk (fed from Sheboygan), polka music, wrestling or roller derby.
Yeah!! I went looking for this cause I LOVED the littlest hobo-lie the person below said- middle-ager who'se remembering tv from when I was little. I loved this dog and I SO wanted him to find a home-and get looked after and loved. Thanks for the song, I played the beginning of the other one- but its not THE song- doesnt cut it.
Ah, excellent. Someone linked to the other theme, and I listened for a second and realized that it wasn't the one I wanted to hear, and a moment or two of looking brought this up. Like many other sad middle-agers, I've had bits of the music in my head for years from those slow afternoons after school of looking at the five channels we got six or seven times. By cracky.
The orginal series holds so many fond memories for me. I had been searching for this soundtrack for so many years. Today very few people recall the original series; some of my friends don't believe it even existed. Now I have proof!
The soundtrack is worthy of re-recording by someone! Please! The later series had "Maybe Tomorrow" - nice song but like this original much better....
I think I remembered watching at least one episode of the original Littlest Hobo as a small toddler , I do recall seeing a production logo at the end of the episode that had a drawing of Cleopatra or some member of Egyptian royality from her era .
I remember when this show came out around 1964, I had a german sheperd dog that looked like Hobo, the show came out again in reruns in 1968, I still have a recording also of the theme I had made with a tape recorder, thanks for posting.
i think RuselKerr, AtomicMutant, Whitetrashoutlaw & Salemkid1979 are going to be very disappointed, it is definitely not that kind of adult action, dirty buggers.
What amazes me is how many people have posted dance mix versions of this song, almost as much as it amazes me that nobody has posted any original episodes of this show on YouTube.
@whitetrashoutlaw The Littlest Hobo IS a German Shepherd. The show was similar to Lassie, except that it was about the adventures of a stray dog who drifted from town to town. (I know, where were the local dog catchers? I used to watch this show and I never saw one.)
Heavens to Murgatroid! What a cool theme song! Strictly from bow wowsville, daddy-o! THANKS for sharing this delightful "blast from the past" with us! :)
Surely one of the most bizarre and miserable shows ever to hit the screen. I wish I'd been at the pitch - it's a mystery to me how anyone could have greenlighted such a lame, depressing concept.
That's hilarious that this was promoted as an ADULT action series. It's always been a kid's show as far as I'm concerned. I always liked the B&W original over the remake.
Randy Sparks sings this original theme song..he went on to become one of the New Christy Minstrels in the 60's..i've been looking for the record which supposedly is on the VERVE label circa 1958 when the movie came out
Actually it was a man who was trapped in an underground complex where they build robots and other weapons designed to take over the world but then ultraman rescued the trapped fellow, then later the man said ty and later named his dog Porky....
We used to watch this series as kids in b&w TV. When the dog moved on at the end of the episode my baby sister always used to cry, as his "master" or "misstress" for that show had to let him go. My sister turned 48 today. The song made me cry today...................
I liked the original version. He didn't want to continually move around. He had to because the bad guys were always on his "tail". Always setting him up to take the blame for some crime they committed. Setting was during the depression.
A NEW ADULT ACTION TELEVISION SERIES? I thought it was a kids programme? In the 80's it was just no brainer tv about that dog that just wandered from one 30 minute drama that had a happy ending and a new owner (which was rejected everytime) to another.
ROAD WITHOUT END From the film "The Littlest Hobo" (1958) Looks like we're comin' into town. Seems like this train is slowin' down. Can't help but wonder what's in store. Could be I've been here once before. A-driftin'. The world is my friend. I'm travlin' along the road without end. Ridin' these rails town to town. Sometimes I think I'll settle down. But I know I'd hunger to be free. Rovin's the only life for me. A-driftin'. The world is my friend. I'm travlin' along the road without end.
ROAD WITHOUT END Theme from "The Littlest Hobo" (1963-1965) I find adventure everywhere And friends with whom I'd like to share This is my stop along the way Don't really know how long I'll stay Stop over. The world is my friend Stop over along the road without end Traveling around from town to town Sometimes I think I'll settle down But I know I'd hunger to be free Rovin' is the only life for me A-driftin'. The world is my friend I'm travelin' along the road without end
I remember the upbeat version of this song too, which went straight into "Traveling Around From TOwn to Town." It's called Road Without End and you can find the lyrics online.
Seems very tough to find the more upbeat version of this theme song, as people have said, by a lower bass voice...theme starting out with drumming train rythmn...and into "Travelling around from town to town, sometimes I think I'll settle down, but I know I hunger to be free..." Any idea where one can find this?
I finally found this show from my childhood..thank you! I wonder if there was another version of this, the song I remember from when I was a kid had a singer with a deeper voice, but the lyrics of this one are about the same.
This black and white tv series had a big impact on me as a boy - I only knew the other version of this theme song which I still sometimes sing in my head today. Would be awesome to see the actual opening/closing credits again!
You type more for your replies = your sad, trying to justify yourself, making up for lack of wittyness and vocabulary = u the only shit for brains here so piss off now please
Why do Canadians and Americans hate each other. Your the same to us! Anyway, London must have been at least 154 in doggy years by the Canadian version???
I have never heard this song before...I watched the show when I was a kid (in Canada). Was the other "Maybe Tomorrow" song I always remember.I watched in the late 70's early 80's and wasn't this song.
Our (better) Canadian one was based on this older American version, some law requiring CBC to dump money into Canadian shows so we don't watch all American shows (same reason we have Robson Arms I believe).
oops I see someone has already mentioned the other lyrics, and yes I know , I even questioned myself as I typed it...should be "rovin's the only life for me.
Thank you so much for posting and sharing this,.I've been trying to get this original for years, this is the closest yet, though I prefer the later version with the deeper voice this is so great to hear again. The end lyrics are different as well ie travellin around from town to town, sometimes I think I'll settle down but I know I'd hunger to be free..travellin's the only life for me.
perpetualsnow thank you so much for posting this. This is the version that I remember from childhood. It brings back so many great memories. Thanks for the walk back in time. :)
Wow....I remember watching this show as a child (I'm almost 53 now), and the melody of this theme has stuck in my head all these years. I've been looking for it for decades, and this is the first time I've found it anywhere. Thank you!
Mr. tilon2000, you're right! I heard that this Canadian TV series (63-65) had at least two different versions of the theme song. The version here was used only for the very early episode(s). Another version (with the same melody) was sung by a different singer whose voice was much deeper. You have a great memory! Then, as Mr. CodeOuch mentioned, this Canadian series was later followed by the US TV series (79-85) that had a totally different theme song. I thank both of you for the valuable input!
i have been collecting tv themes from youtube and your listing is the only one for littlest hobo i could find of the original series. however it sounded too light to me from memory as when i watched the show as a kid it had a kind of sadness to it which was part of it's charm. the theme song set the the mood by adding a touch of pathos which i felt when london always had to move on.
yeah and the 1979-1985 ( and we can see sometime London sittin on rollings wagons, funny to see lol!!! ) version of this tv series was the best in my teen era. i never see 60's version
and i watch again this in this moment at PRISE 2 ( french canadian tv retro-station )
this tv serie comeback is a truly gift from god i swear
I've recently watched the DVD. London was saving the horses in that episode. Sheep, horses, and people...he was always a great rescuer, wasn't he? Thank you so much for the comment!
in the original movie there was a girl in a wheelchair and the hobo saved a sheep from the slaughter house and brought the sheep back to her. I think this was in the 50s.
my favorite movie as a child and this is the theme song I remember....wish it was available to buy....I would hum this song all the time, always LOVED IT....thanks so much for posting it!

Why do Canadians and Americans hate each other. Your the same to us! Anyway, London must have been at least 154 in doggy years by the Canadian version???
chookter1 3 years ago
Same could be said about the English and the Irish right? LMFAO!
MacHamish 3 years ago
Lol, nobody gives a shit about the Irish apart from the Americans.
chookter1 3 years ago
Kinda like no one gives a shit about the American except the British?

I have never heard this song before...I watched the show when I was a kid (in Canada). Was the other "Maybe Tomorrow" song I always remember.I watched in the late 70's early 80's and wasn't this song.

Our (better) Canadian one was based on this older American version, some law requiring CBC to dump money into Canadian shows so we don't watch all American shows (same reason we have Robson Arms I believe).
Highlandlord 3 years ago
Is called the "Canadian Content" law.True,North,Strong and Free EH!!LOL

oops I see someone has already mentioned the other lyrics, and yes I know , I even questioned myself as I typed it...should be "rovin's the only life for me.

Thank you!

was there another version, i seem to recall the singers' voice was deeper when i saw it in australia.
could be my hazy memory however!
tilon2000 3 years ago
ya late 70's to mid 80's there was another one.
CodeOuch 3 years ago
Mr. tilon2000, you're right! I thank both of you for the valuable input!

thank you and CodeOuch for the info.
i have been collecting tv themes from youtube and your listing is the only one for littlest hobo i could find of the original series. however it sounded too light to me from memory as when i watched the show as a kid it had a kind of sadness to it which was part of it's charm. the theme song set the the mood by adding a touch of pathos which i felt when london always had to move on.

the best that I remembered about the littlest hobo was when the dog saved the sheep from the slaughter house.
