when people are flying like this, how fast do they loose altitude(are they like dropping 50 meters per sec?) or could you fly straight? or even gain hight?

I always thought skydiving looked like floating but having nearly got my cat 8 I now know it is very much falling!
I would like to think I will do this but think walking before I can run is obvious.
Must have watched this fifty times.

I think it is also important for a wingsuit flight the direction of the wind; having rear wind one could cover a longer distance... Is it right?
