This is incredible; your dedication to your art is remarkable, and highly inspirational to watch. I can't believe you trekked up through that weather with all your equipment! Very impressive :)
You're incredibly, not that nobody's told you. I'm looking forward to the film as well, look slike it'll have a very 'Shadow of the Colossus' or 'Ico' feel... but they're games, you normally don't get that in cinema. I think the film industry needs someone like you, there are definitely too many formulaic films being made by directors who put in zero effort. Not to sound cynical... Good luck bro, hope it goes well!
This is awesome!!! I can't believe you changed and got made up on location in those conditions... Maybe in a couple weeks you won't need the make-up anymore and your clothes will actually look like that. Hehe :oP
Congratulations for getting this far and good luck with the rest!!! I can't wait to see the film!!!
man i am really impressed by your work! This whole project seemed to be impossible but you're so ambitioned that you take everything with a smile! One can really understand what this film means to you. You've got my respect! keep it up, you are awesome
I can't zoom in on myself... OH! Ok. I wasn't being clear - what I meant was, 'on a long lens' , did I say 'zoomed in'?
Explaining the shots - yep, I won't do that for all takes as that will get dull for people and I want to try and theme the different blogs as much as possible as opposed to just banging out 'another blog where I explain every shot'. But yes, I will give more context in later blogs. :-) Thanks for watching!
lol! But of course someone was filming him in I am Legend?! And there was a sound recordist and set designer and other actors and director and producer and an entire massive Hollywood crew... It is I am Legend you're referring to?
Thankyou! And yes - the intent is on my first blog - if you go to my channel page you can see the pre-production playlist which is the story so far... :-)
Wow, your First day of Filming blog has been Spotlighted by Youtube. Well done.
Ya know, when we go see this in the cinema, some of us are gonna so proud to watch it because we knew how long it took to make and what you did in order to complete it.
as a lone film maker there is no reason he cant ask for advise but he has to carry out the practice..good luck Rob,can't wait to see the film ....5 stars
Next time, put on your costume and makeup in the chalet and wear gloves inbetween filming, only taking them off when you've got the camera on. You don't need to be incredibly fit to do this, but just stay as warm as possible. or alternatively, try and design gloves which fit the costume.
Anyway, nice job this is really starting to come together as a film.
Loved the music and the snow (but glad I am not in it. Hang in there, I know you can do it and so far, you are amazing. You will get more fit as you go.
keep going, the sense of achievement will fire you for life when you finish. and i believe in you, cant wait to see the finished product. because i know you will finish it
pull the shit on a snowsled? get a pack of wolves that'll pull you? Youre gonna loose a thumb or something on this man and thats what makes it beautiful
If only snowmobiles were in the budget haha You look like you have it under control though, as hard as it may be. Good luck again everyones rooting for you.
i have watched all your videos and i think what your doing is great! i will be praying for your safety and that everything goes as smooth as possible! Keep it up!
hahaha usually youtube comments are so mean and heartless. its good to see so many people wishing you well...You can do it, you have already made the first steps, now, all you have to do is film! great job, you can do it
Rob, your amazing! I envy you for doing something like this on your own. Thanks for the blogs and inspiring videos. I can't wait to see the finished film. You guys are great! Keep it going.
Its a great idea and I hope it works out well perhaps after this you could continue to make lots of films and sell them worldwide though whatever you do keep posting on youtube!! =) x
I think that a walking cane might make it easier to walk in the mountain, carrying all that equipment. Maybe you should ask that kind Swiss man for advice.
Keep up the good work! Can't wait to see what happens next.
Hey, everything looks good so far, man.. it's gotta be a great experience. I never done any of this but I'm sure that for anybody who is not used to the intense weather, it will most likely wear you out in a flash. But keep it going bro, stay tough - great job.
Incredible! Talk about guts. You're dealing with everything from relatives to the army to the harsh weather up there. Keep it up man! Can't wait to see the film. Heck, if you finish this (which I believe you will) I promise to buy a copy.
One bit of advice. You seem to know what you're doing, but just for the sake of setting myself at ease, take good care of your equipment. No matter how bad you tear yourself up, you'll heal. Your equipment won't.
Great stuff, Rob! Keep in mind that your body will adjust to stress. My husband reminded me of his experience in military basic training. At first he felt like he wasn't fit enough to do it, but as he pushed on, he got in shape. Make sure you eat plenty and get enough sleep. You can do this!
well, at this point there is nothing else for me to say other than you've gotta go for it and finish. imagine looking at yourself in the mirror after you've quit - that's the worst thing one can do - give up on their passion. you chose to shoot a film on your own - and as if that wasn't hard enough - you throw yourself onto a mountain to do that. how crazy must you be? awesomely crazy! i'm rooting for you.
"I knew I wasn't fit for this"... don't be so down on yourself. This is an amazing experience you're having and I'm so glad that your girlfriend is documenting it.
Im just saying I hope this gets to the cinema, and more importantly, that his dream comes true. not a lot of that happens when it really matters anymore...
More than 1:17 hour, that's what he previously said. That means quite a lot of footage I bet. He couldn't have filmed more than a minute or so of the movie in that first day I bet.
That's exactly what I was thinking. Those are rough conditions to work in considering then checking to see if he got the footage he needed. It's quite ambitious. I personally would have set the film in a tropical location. haha
K33P 1T UP! Not many people have a dream that they can stand by like you can. You are a driven individual and I hope to see you continue with this ammazing work.
WOW ! I am so happy you are making it! Don't you worry that the cold will sap your battery power for your camera? (or you might insulate it I suppose) Keep going! you have the force of the world pushing you to get the film done :)
It would be incredibly hard for me to express how amazing I think what you're doing is. You have put so much into this project, and worked so hard-- Don't let a difficult first day get you down! I'm sure it will get easier as it goes along. And you can't give up now! With your determination, I am positive that you can succeed, no matter what. Just keep going!
I love the relationship your girlfriend and you share. It just seems very lasting: you're very...willing to compromise, it seems. And you don't ever seem harsh or biting, or horribly sarcastic to one another. It's lovely! :)
awesome work, Just wondering though are all of your camera shots going to be stationary or do you have some way to have your camera move automaticaly to make it so you can do a "panning" shot. moving from left to right or vice versa
Yeah I recognise that tiredness, its so heavy al the camera stuff.
I hope you`ll get some more media attention, cause this is something very special that you are doing, such an amazing great idèe which finally becomes reality.
By the way, have you weighd al the equipment? I think you did that on one of your vids, I dont remember.
This stuff is very inspiring. I knew you were going to have a hard time carrying equipment. I lived for 3 months in the rockies, eating mostly cattails, but a few animals. I ditched half the stuff I started with in the first couple of days. You guys rock, I wish you the best of luck!
Been watching and keeping up with it all, just want to say that what you are doing is really inspiring and I really hope it all works out. Keep it up!!

are you going to compose your own soundtrack as well? Guess you have to if you are making the film completely alone.

How long is this film going to be?
rockhills 3 years ago
More than 1:17 hour, that's what he previously said. That means quite a lot of footage I bet. He couldn't have filmed more than a minute or so of the movie in that first day I bet.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Those are rough conditions to work in considering then checking to see if he got the footage he needed. It's quite ambitious. I personally would have set the film in a tropical location. haha

This stuff is very inspiring. I knew you were going to have a hard time carrying equipment. I lived for 3 months in the rockies, eating mostly cattails, but a few animals. I ditched half the stuff I started with in the first couple of days. You guys rock, I wish you the best of luck!
