  • what's the name of the song at the beginning of the video?

  • it's true in china that teachers like students with the best grades, but teachers do also like students who can express their thoughts of thinking, especially when the thoughts are meaningful or impressive! based on my experience, my teachers do value a lot those students who have meaningful and special thoughts, even though their acadamic achievements are not that great

  • Hip hop just need a little bit talent of poet, not much.

  • I fuck the dude below....I can also receive education in united states, but I was to bring peace and reform, new technologies back to china and we will become superpower in 20 years, overplay the united states. if you like canada, then stay over over, and get your useless social welfare

  • ur videos are great! reflects culture and problems

  • It's just so sad to hear those "bananas" to condemn how bad their own Chinese culture is.

To: Dili (the Curry girl), I don't know WTF r u doing in China if you have that much complaint, go home n fuck yourself.

    To: Sufei

To be honest with u, I do like some of you works, but I also have a kind of feeling that you were filming all these vids from the western point of view on the top, coz what I saw was a bunch of "LaoWai" showing off themselve in a developing country. So Sad,

  • They are just stupid southerners , they don't think , they just repeat.

  • China is a collectivist Country. Of course it's hard for the Chinese to express themselves as individuals.

Confucius was a great. That's why China has each long history of Civilization because of ideology of Confucianism's collectivism and peace with respect.

  • Chinese Martial arts expresses who you are as a person too.

Chinese philosopher like Lao Zi prompts ideology individualistic. Such as the Tao. Each individual has its own path, belief, and way of life. Each individual is different from one other but has its own specialty under the heaven.

  • i feel that people here have v pent up frustrations..i don;t know, just somehow reminded me about the May Fourth Movement..not saying that they are the same..but yea just wondering is there really nothing good about the Chinese Education?

  • nice video!

  • Very interesting!

It seems that the biggest complaint within any educational system is it's tendancy to make their students into something in particular.

I'm an educator in the USA, and it's the most common complaint out here about the public educational system.

Perhaps only individualized home schooling can provide the individualism that individuals need individually??

    :-)

Great video! Thanks for opening up the discussion!

  • Traditionally, Chinese parents and teachers want students to think the way they do and do academic stuff. I hope that can change soon. Even though academcs are important, but individuality and originality is also important.

And sorry, I just can't stand hip hop. Don't argue its my opinion.

  • @BlloodRayyven agreed. hopefully the Chinese education system will incorporate more originality and individuality in the classrooms.

  • That dude at 5:55 to 6:00 had like Yakuza tatoos.

  • Is the "Hey teacher" in the video the same song as the "Halt's Maul" from the 3. Generation (the German hip-hop group)

Goes like: hey lehrer, halts maul! Warum willst du mich hassen was hab' ich dir getan (hey, teacher shut up, why do you want to hate me what have i done to you?!)

  • well, I don't think this programe is about a kind of 'sexy'. It should be romantic, because all of your stories are talking about love and relationship.

By the way. Sophie is a very nice girl, I like her.

  • I think the education of the primary and secondary schools in China are pretty good, but the universities sucks

  • i am a chinese , i wanna say FUCK CHINESE EDUCATION!!!!!!!

that's why i came to Canada for better education...

    peace out!!!

  • Don't be snobbish. Both education systems have their pros and cons. =)

  • dude,, the Reason you went to Canada because Chinese Education is a lot tougher than Canada.

  • Does anybody else think the guy at 5:55 is wearing a g-string?

  • I think it's obvious. He's not. That's just the elastic part of his boxers with are a lighter color. Sheesh.

  • Individualism is ONE way of life. Collectivism comes from ANOTHER way of life. HIP HOP is one style of music, Classical music is another. No need to rebel. The more one rebels, the closer one is bound to or imprisoned by what one try to break free from.

Individual is like a drop of water out of the ocean, same as the entire group of Chinese culture or people, how could HipHop lovers be so individualized from the rese of the group? Minor, in my opinion.

  • where individuality is reign in the western society, eastern society must follow its step, That is where the true self arises. Formality is not in anymore. I am Chinese, and i m FOR individuality.

  • 6:41 - is so funney (:

this video give me a lot of positive energy. I'm a dancer, my roots are chinese.

it's also a great thing to hear and know that there are people who want to be themselves but they can't because of the enviroment, and that they are trying to make it the best way of living with freedom and dance in China.

  • can someone tell me where to get the song played between people?

  • i just wanna say first that im not like a patriotic maniac.

but it just makes me laugh when i see other chinese people talk shit about china when they thought they made something out of themselves, but in fact they are nothing.

    think before you f*cking speak.

does china have any other choice of dealing with 1.3 billion people?

whats the other way of educating all these people?

idividuality my ass, how would you deal with 1.3 billion individualities?

    you tell me

    f*cktards

  • Thanks, fascinating video that sheds light on this new scene that is poorly documented and understood in the West. Would like to see more.

  • I have to say,

hip hop is a life style. BUT,, let hip hop people, especially under-developed Chinese hip hop people judge China's education system, it is like a joke.

Japan has a more complicated and complete social system than China. However, I haven't heard any Japanese rapper band complaining about their education system. Restraining individualism DOES NOT EQUAL to failure of education. It is more like a cultural thing.

    以上

  • @heinlich you know what? Japan has high rate of suicide, just because their life has a lot of pressure, and they don't want say it out, kill themselves silently

  • i have to say it....... they say its a free way in wich everyone does the same thing ????or i am right away hahahah this stupid idiots of the hip hop jail saying that hip hop its what they show from their own lives ???? so how can i manage to see every hiptupid hopstupid like those doing the same thing if u want to show u r gay u have to go to hip hop ? or if u want to show u are feeling kid u go to hip hop ? or u feel marine u go to hip hop because is a free way all of u remember study,....

  • It's not that i, being a chinese, don't like this chinese HIPHOP, it's that, these young men are wayyyyyyyy Not educatied. MTFK? stupid.

  • it sounds like hebrew or arabic

  • it's Kazak.. Kazak Turkish

  • so is it Kazak or Turkish? the two aren't the same language?

  • It's in the same language family.

  • english and punjabi are in the same language family.

same language family does not mean anything - its irrelevant.

its somebody asking on a video if its english or punjabi and me saying they are the same because they are in the same language family... it really isnt the same.

  • RapidEyesCream: English and Punjabi are separated by many more generations than the languages in the Turkic language family.

  • If Turkic is so close then can a Mongol understand Turkish - uh i dont think so.

you really need to be practical with what you say and not insinuate or affiliate things

  • RapidEyesCream: I speak English, a Germanic language. If you put me in a room with someone who only spoke Dutch, also a Germanic language, we wouldn't be able to understand each other at all. That doesn't mean that English and Dutch are not both Germanic languages, or that they aren't very closely related. Note, same language FAMILY does not mean same LANGUAGE.

  • yes i know that same language family does not mean same language, but i dont see why somebody replied saying that "its mongol-turkic" its like me saying "she speaks german indo-european" - it doesnt make sense; thats why i asked "well which one is it?".

  • i mean, just because its in the same language family doesnt answer my question.... and punjabi is indo-european, so is english. would you say they are similar?

  • what is the song int he background...?

  • like.. you know.

  • what about the fact that hip-hop is one the most copied styles in the world? While i do like how this video puts rap in context of the chinese education system, i question whether hip-hop allows chinese students any real originality. is it really about chinese artists expressing individuality -- or are they just copying a now dated form of western expression?

  • So you are saying a Chinese pianist no longer has his own style or originality just because piano started out as a European expression?

  • Please provide concrete examples in which western children are encouraged to be different under their educational system. And I'm not just talking about forms, like to wear different styles of clothe or to eat different cuisine, but essence, such as to articulate a criticism of the capitalist system under which they live.

  • Although Rap $ Hip Hop music is widely accepted in younger generation.Outside of China. However ,it has never been as popular as ballad or pop-rock in Chinese community.

I am not fond of Rap&Hip Hop music i only know 2 Chinese rapper, LMF an underground band and Jin an American Chinese have really been phenomenal in Hong Kong.

  • 那抄作业的,完全一拉不出屎赖茅坑,没治了

  • 25 years, China will be a democratic nation and I will live to see it happen!!!

  • why do you think China will ever change to a democratic nation when its working so well being the way it is? There is nothing wrong with a republic China.

  • @2:50 her English is flawless. American-Chinese in mainland?

  • @qwertywxyz and?

  • Western education is based on the Socratic Method. The whole purpose is to think and question everything. While most schools in the US have given up the Socratic method and replaced it w/ memorization, it is much better than route learning

  • Chinese teachers suck and so does chinese education!!!!

  • how stupid are you? You cant say the whole chinese education is failure. maybe you are at the same level as that ''beijing rapper''

  • the girl looks like a fucking thief

  • u have done a big thing with video. thank you for doing these vids

  • I loved your video. I came across a site that will help your channel/video become more popular. It has really helped me out a great deal. The name is Thetubeviews . Net

    john

  • a video of some high school drop-outs bashing on the education system? it doesnt really make hip-hop sounds any prettier.

  • Yeah, anyone is capable to throw a superficial thread like this...wat really draws our attention is the senario beyond hiphop.

  • to be honest im australian and i feel the same way about the education system here

i love to learn, i just never found anything worth learning in high skool

and in university i hate the way things are taught also....

once again we are all the same no matter where in the world

ps STOP POSTING VIDS U MAKE ME MISS CHINA

  • Im a beijinger and hav been in Brisbane for 2 years and half. Yeah, you r right about the points that education sucks universally. ive never been in high school here so im not really in a position to say anything about that. but having been through all the cliched Maxism and Maoism in chinese univeristy, i really feel that, at least in terms of tertiary institutions, students have more opportunities to express their own ideas.

  • problem is uni students in the west are apathetic are rarely have anything worth lsitening to, and the ones that do are young full off piss and viniger and cant form a cohesive arguement

  • Chinese culture traditioanlly never encourge individuality and thats why democracy is so freakin hard to be conducted in this country. Heaps of chinese people out there never realise that because when u spend all of life being trapped in a place like that u might think thats the way its supposed to be~~~this is just so f8ckin SAD!!!!!

  • but what if everyone in china start doing hiphop one day? Would you think they are all the same? The individual and the group are like ying and yang...

  • R u blind??? How many people r doing Hiphop in China? we dont even a real Hiphop singer or band!!!!! U really need to do a bit more research before u say things.

  • Interesting

  • There's really two kind of hip-hop artists, and it seems most people like to focus on the talentless, degrading, loud types. Many fail to see the intelligence behind the lyrical expressions used by the other camp. Anyway, this video was a cool look into the hiphop scene in China.

  • yerk3 is right,, they are not losers at all, they're rapping exactly reflects the weakness of the current society... Rappers are not popular so much yet in China, as there is not big entertainment company sponsoring them, unlike US.

  • i don't know what it's like in US, but in China, hip pop is for losers and street punks who never be able to get their high school degrees and couldn't find jobs in matter of facts, that's why they blaming the education made them became losers, now they finally find something to survive on - "hip pop artist"

  • As for Chinese vs. US education, an engineer once told me something very interesting. Before getting laid off (not in this recession), he would go to China several times per year to work on projects. He said that when a problem comes up in the planing, and no mathematical formula can fix it, then creativity can fix it, and vice-versa.

They complement each other, like the ant and the grass hopper (Disney's version, not Plato's :P ).

  • A lot of music genres revolve around drugs, violence, and sex. Back in the 20-30's, it was widely believed that Jazz was morally degrading. The word Rock and Roll itself is a sugestive word. And Screamo is always angry sounding.

And in other news, I'd probably suck at Chinese schools. A church, I had to memorize 100 verses word for word, and I'd only could do something around 18 verses (give or take).

  • hip pop,, and rap sucks!!!

  • codeagent47: Not all hip hop. It depends on which artist, which sub-genre, which cultural norms. It isn't all Soulja Boy telling "YOOOUUUU" how to Superman that ho or super-soak that Roosevelt or whatever you kids are doing these days.

  • i still believes Rap and hip pop are bad influence to the Chinese people!!

  • codeagent: How is it a bad infuence? There is intelligent hip-hop, it all depends on what they're singing about. I doubt they're singing about what mainstream American rappers rap about (gangs, drugs, killing people,) and those are the things people usually point to when decrying the negative impacts of hip-hop, so what is it that is so damaging? Using novel lyrical forms? Tongue fatigue from rapping too fast in Mandarin?

  • i understand some people can able to understand the true meaning to expressing themselves through hip-pop! However, the Chinese were also heavily influence by the mainstream American rappers that involved around sex, drugs, gangs, and violences!! I hardly double these Chinese gonna behave like little angles!!

  • lol for a teacher in university she sure does uses like alot

  • i love CHINA!!!!

  • very cool!

  • Good to see that you can still access YouTube from China... Cool!

  • HipPop, in some degree, is prohibited in the US schools. violence and improper language in hiphop subconsciously and negatively influences American young generation. it is like drug slowly poisoning the youth mind and corrupting their sense of norm and values . The unlimited self-inflation of individuality in US culture which is also encouraged in hippop eventually produces many "heroic figures" like columbia high school killers. Gun abuse in US is the biproduct of individuality.

  • Personally, I consider that Hip Pop is kind of JUNK Culture pretty much like those junk food McDonald, KFC and other western fast food imported in China that we should be smart and wise enough to stop importing those junk stuff from usa. go ask how many upscale americans eat hamburgs and listen 50cents..

  • as for the school gun killings, again, the media had to find something to blame. they don't even know the real reason behind the killings. and obviously it can't be hip hop. they HAD to blame hip hop because only "minorities" partake in hip hop.

go ahead and learn about the 1970s first and where hip hop came from and why. then you might have the least bit of credibility to begin saying these stuff

  • well obviously you don't know what real hip hop is. don't mistake mainstream hip hop for hip hop in its essence. those are two different hip hop.

you, like everybody else, think hip hop is all about drugs violence sex and money. but that's what the media has transformed it to be. go search up hip hop and learn about its origins after the civil rights movement. there's a reason why it was born right after the civil rights movement. maybe you will relate and connect with it as well.

  • i wanna see more sufei interviewing others

  • the english teacher says :"like" too much

  • Wow... the people in these video's are very talented. It's about expressing your self through art.

  • Not only in Chinese education but also in the family unit too. When children wander off exploring their own sense of individuality they are considered rebellious.

  • Creativity and individual freedom is based on economic/wealth foundation. Give the people food and shelter before the freedom to pursue whatever they want. We still have 30% of people who cannot read/write, 22% of family still starving from poverty. These people who are boasting of "individual freedom" should think about their brothers/sisters crying for help before they get to enjoy all these culture entertainments.

  • Comment removed

  • I admit that the fatal shortcoming of Chinese educational system is the "model effect", or shaping everyone into the same thing while losing the creativity of these people in the process. At current stage, "individualism" can not be afforded by Chinese. or only to very limited extent, just imagine giving the freedom for the people to have private guns in China, you will see us butchering each other on the street.(Maybe that's a good way to reduce population though :D)

  • As a Chinese student studying in America, I have got a taste of both education system. I would say both have their weakness and strength, well nothing is perfect, right? But hip hop can not really be related to education, because it teaches you nothing, it's closer to an entertainment, just like you go for prostitute or getting drunk in China while you get addicted to drugs etc in US. They are all just a release of your pressure, or satisfying one of your desire.

  • can people stop abusing the word 'like'?

  • That's like imposible to do in the West Coast, dude ;)

  • A common problem encountered when you try and differ yourself from others is when you believe that joining in or following some kind of trend or attitude that's supposedly unique would make you an indivisual. But that's just going out of one box and entering another. Society still controls if it makes you respond in some kind of act. It doesn't matter if your unhappy with how the society treats inidvisuality, do things your way and know your priority in life, and you ARE an indivisual.

  • last guy seems like a douche

  • Will Hip Hop start turning Chinese urban youths into the typical American urban youth? For example, have Chinese Hip Hop artists started bastardizing the Chinese language yet?

  • "Will Hip Hop start turning Chinese urban youths into the typical American urban youth? For example, have Chinese Hip Hop artists started bastardizing the Chinese language yet?"

It seems to have a different effect on different cultures. In American society it makes people largely homogeneous, whereas in China it's about self-expression and individuality. In my opinion, it will make Chinese who listen to hip hop a bit more democratic than their peers (as is clear in the video).

  • I serious believe hip hop fans have lower iq on average...not the singer/producer...the fans

there should be some negative correlation between the number of hip hop albums purchased and the SAT scores...

  • I think this is really cool, the spread of cultures and sharing of worlds is great... i do think its wrong to think that copying hip hop is leading to any kind of "individuality" though, its just another group-thought kind of problem... its still a box, even if it isnt the chinese education box. To be really individualistic is quite hard.

  • I think that American education system is definitely more flexible than that of China. It caters to all sorts of students. I remember my elementary school's music/art classes being canceled in order for more academic courses like English and Society and Moral classes. I think Chinese teachers still need to encourage academic proficiency among students but cannot rashly bash others for not doing well academically.

  • yeah i think its true. the good thing is that most people realised that... and even though that individuality is not encouraged. it is not objected to.

    p.s. Chinese pride!!

  • awesome. i learned something 5*

  • Awesome video. Thank you.

  • Awesome.

  • I'm sad to say that the quality of the videos are not as good as what they used to be. Too few made and not enough effort put into them as they used to be.

  • These are guest videos

  • save it!

  • Not just in China.

Many Asian countries doesn't promote individuality at school.

  • And that includes India as well.

  • haha in 4 minute guy so funny speak with "afro" accent :)
