the essence of the lesson is correct but you're missing the most important part: The funk! You have to mute all the notes except the ones from the riff to make it sounds the way it sounds in the track which is full of energy and life.

How much of a difference does it make to use an electric acoustic versus non electric acoustic?

Why don't you use your pink? It's al lot easier, wel i think. Then you don't have to make much movement whit your finger's:)

Yeah that would be one way to do it, but when I play in a 3 fret section I rarely whip out the pinky finger, I can play pretty well w/ the two in that small space I like to leave the pinky for stretches. But I say do it how you are comfortable, thanks for you idea though.
